Just arrived, relaxing in my hotel...

1/5

I maintain my killer GM status by killing 2 PC's in their first Society game.

Grand Lodge 4/5

30 tables were planned, and 30 run. With extra tables Saturday being cancelled out by sessions on Sunday which lacked enough players to make a table. The Quest for Perfection and Wonders in the Weave series proved immensely popular.

May corvidblooded, trained eye, affliction immunity, and free vanity boons were given out. As well as a copy of Ultimate Combat and the complete Second Darkness adventure path, and many other prizes.

The lost and found contains a mini, a shirt, and a flip mat. If one of these is yours, describe it to me and I will send it for the cost of shipping.

Reporting will being once I've had some sleep.

Even though, as Predicted I might add, I won both of them, I was kind enough to put them back in the drawing.. ;)

Another solid Owlcon under my belt.

I was impressed again at the quality for a 'small con'.
The Warhorn site was a smart upgrade this year, and the prize support from Paizo was AMAZING.

[Thank you Paizo for the strong support! Seeing the year of the ruby phoenix wooden coins from Gencon again brought a smile to my lips. The boons were new and interesting (at least the immunity one and the free vanity and the perception bonus one), and many were distributed. The 'door prize' books were amazing and really unexpected (wish I had won that Second Darkness package!)]

Kelly, you did a nice job keeping things organized and orderly. The microphone and posted sign in sheets and catered meals and all were nice upgrades. Time warnings/notices were appreciated. Prize handout was a clever idea and executed cleanly.

Owlcon is not a huge con. It was surprising to play with and talk to at least 3 Venture Captains (thanks for coming down from the Windy City, Rene!, nice to see you again Dave, nice to meet you and welcome to the VC status Robert), and our local special guest Adam Daigle.

Nice to play at your table(s) again Dragnmoon, and to play with you at the Hall of Drunken Heroes (we should have been drunken to make it more realistic).

The Good Stuff:
1) Good scenarios (Quest for Perfection is solid, though I'm disappointed the Braid doesn't stack w/ Monk robe, Tide of Twilight was a nice continuation of Tide of Morning)
2) Good players
3) Good GMs
4) Great Paizo prize support
5) it was nice to see many of the same faces as last year

What Can be Improved:
1) While the noise level wasn't insane (i.e. Gencon level), the privacy/sound level of the games last year was superior. I really like the order imposed by the shared space, and the curtains separating us from the 4E folk were nice... but the small classrooms were great last year.
2) Game location was NOT posted in the booklet for the con. Let's communicate it in this thread next year, and in the Warhorn site.
3) Catered food was a GREAT idea... but I never heard that it existed until dinner on Saturday. Let us know ahead of time and be able to request stuff, and this will really reduce complexity/stress for those back to back sessions that might run long.
4) I wonder if there is a better time to hand out the boons/prizes. Interrupting the sessions in the middle seems a bit of a distraction. I don't have a better suggestion at this time, but I think there's an improvement out there.

Thanks again for some great games!

1) I echo the use of Warhorn. I'm a huge proponent of the site and things like it for organizing.

2) Four Venture Captains; Jon Cary of Dallas was also there.

3) I agree on the noise level, but this is the tradeoff for getting larger. There is no way we can run a large number of tables (5+) in a round and expect to be assigned separate conference rooms for each. Having done room assignments on college campuses before, I can assure you that if PFS continues to grow larger at OwlCon, being in a large shared space (either of just PFS people or PFS+RPGA) will continue to be the norm. And no, being there on a weekend does not make it easier to schedule room assignments; you are still competing with student organizations, Saturday classes, and other such things.

That said, I think some better coordination between RPGA & PFS on when each would be using loudspeakers, talking to their players about respectful noise levels, and to close the damn door all the way so the alarm didn't go off would have probably helped with the noise situation.

4) One possible solution on the boons is to require people to "check-in" at the mustering table before going to their own so they can draw from the Harrow deck, get their boon, and go sit down. This would encourage people to arrive early and have the added bonus of the coordinator knowing who has shown up and who hasn't.

Noise was definitely a problem. Especially the blasted door alarm. Baker was our last choice of rooms, due to noise and distance from registration. This was driven partly by losing the Humanities building on short notice, partly by the need to have 5 tables in one room for Blood Under Absalom.

Not having the location and schedule for Society posted in the program was a problem this year, and will not be repeated next year.

Getting food catered to Baker was a struggle. We had some unexpected problems which greatly delayed dinner of Saturday and forced me to lead the delivery myself Sunday. This needs to change for next year.

Interrupting tables for prizes was somewhat of a trade-off. Having players check-in for prized before each slot could have slowed down the already slow process of seating players at tables.

Other thoughts. 1-5s proved highly popular, as expected, 5-9's proved unexpectedly popular. Poor 3-7s suffered from a general lack of interest. 7-11s were a mixed bag, with Mantis's Prey going off as planned, but Kortos Envoy cancelled. Midnight Mauler was less popular then expected, possibly as a result of being run near the end of its exclusivity window, possible because it was competing with Quest For Perfection.

Next year I will have to schedule more tables on Saturday and fewer on Sunday. Only 3 tables ran in the final slot.

On the whole, I consider it a great success, and look forward to next year.

I had a good time. I enjoyed meeting goatlord and the rest of Team Monk. I also enjoyed meeting Adam Daigle and seeing Dragnmoon one-shot our highest level PC with a katana critical hit.

I had a great time!

Sure I was only there for a few hours, but I enjoyed the time to run a game and hang out with the PFS crew.

I had about 1.5 whiskeys too many the night before and stayed up way too late, so 8am came quickly and the drive to Houston from Austin was less than thrilling in that state at that hour. However with coffee and a steadfast perseverance I wheeled onto the Rice University campus a full three hours before my game began. I promptly found my cousin John and we made our way over to the building PFS was going on. Walking in I saw Carlos and Jon talking at a spare table and we hung out, taking chances to say hey to folks during breaks from their games. It was good to see all the Houston folks and all the kick-ass PFSers that came from all around. My highlight was that my cousin and Carlos got into my game...AND the other three players were awesome! I haven’t gamed with my cousin since we were kids, so that was super cool! You guys in my game kicked ass with clever tactics, good rolls and a certain amount of luck. (That natural 20 with the rug was awesome!) Thanks for a fun game!

[Edit] It was also fun getting Rene to help me fill out all the sheets at the end of the game. He seemed tickled that I was as ignorant as I was. :)

Thanks to Kelly for his organization skills. There’s always something at the end of a convention that organizers (and attendees) think could be better and no show goes perfectly, but everything ran wonderfully and there was a sea of smiles on people’s faces as far as I could tell. While Saturday will always be busier than Friday or Sunday, I wouldn’t factor this particular Sunday too hard into plans for next year. It was Superbowl Sunday, after all.

Thanks all for a fun day! It was great seeing familiar faces and great meeting new folks!

Good times.

I had a blast GMing & hanging with Team Cheliax. Thanks to the high tier of Blood Under Absalom for putting up with me. Daigle, you rock. We have plotting to do. Kelly, keep up the good work.

See you all at paizocon.

Thank you for not only running for 7 people, but doing so with a timed encounter special with a number of "twists" that made doing so even more difficult. I did not envy any of the GMs running said special.

Another great Owlcon experience. It was good to see familiar faces from last year and meet a bunch of new people. I really enjoyed playing as part of Team Monk with the same table for all three of the Quest for Perfection modules, Issac, Randy, and Ben it was good meeting you all.

It was great meeting and gaming with Rene, and having the chance to GM Dragnmoon in a mod after he has run many games for me at cons.

The gaming room was a decent location, I had thought the sounds would be worse then it was, but I never really had trouble hearing the GM. I would have liked to start games a bit earlier then 10am (11EST) in order to get two games in on sunday before my flight, but it made for a less hectic morning.

Thanks for organizing Kelly!

See you all at Paizocon

Good times
It was a much louder this year but nothing like gencon...
A 900 start and adding 30 min to each session would be nice...
I miss getting to play with Adam Daigle, the hag encounter last year was too good.
Getting GMed by Dragnmoon was good as it is at most my cons...
The extra give aways and boons were good...
Chot is down the the last couple of mods till 12th maybe he will finish up next year at Owlcon.
The best are the other players to chuck dice with
Still a good CON

When I try to describe what playing Core modules with Bandit Kingdoms characters was like in LG, I often relate the Hag encounter.
