Alchemist Bomb Damage and Pyromaniacs

Rules Questions

The Alchemist's bomb damage is 1d6+INT, increasing by 1d6 every odd level. The chart shows the damage increases as a level dependent ability, like a Rogue's sneak attack, or a Cleric's Channel.

The Pyromaniac alternate Race ability says that you are considered 1 level higher for bombs with Fire damage, but that the ability does not grant early access to any level dependent abilities.

My question is, I am running Carrion Crown with a Gnome Alchemist character who has taken the Pyromaniac ability. Does this ability allow him to increase his bomb damage as if he's one level higher (thus having a 2d6 bomb at 2nd level), or does it just give him an extra bomb a day?

The Exchange

You will have 2d6 fire bombs at 2nd level. If you were to pick up, say, shock bombs, they would do 1d6.

My crude interpretation on that is that in increases the damage (as that scales with level) it MAY also increase the number of bombs per day (though I'd say the extra has to be a fire bomb).

I never did finish reading, Art of RAW however.

The "does not grant early access to any level dependent abilities" thing is referring to discoveries, poison use etc etc. The bomb damage continues to escalate.

Shadow Lodge

Edgar has it right, Pyromaniac with fire bombs pretty much as follows:
1:1d6
2:2d6
4:3d6
ect ect

most note worthy thing is that at 20th level you'll have bombs that do 11d6. there is no maximum level on bombs, it just states that bomb damage increases every odd level, so a Pyromanic at 20th level is considered 21st level when throwing fire bombs

Since you are playing a gnome you can always take the favored class option for alchemists which gives you an extra bomb every second level. Although in PFS a guy i play with plays with a half orc alchemist and has stated that just with a high int bonus and the extra bombs feat they get(instead of brew potion) he has more than enough bombs for each day. Although PFS mods are subject to 15 minute working days
