Grand Lodge

Just offering in case someone from the continent comes via Dover.

The Sunrise Lodge UK overlooks the channel and is reachable very conveniently from Dover. We do have crash space and at least one space in the car going up (more coming down as we have 2 cars back).

Arrive Thursday and I arrange a pre-game Thursday night.

I see there's only two tickets left now...

Is what's going to be happening in the Saturday evening slot (when the Grand Melee was last year) public knowledge yet?

We are not quite ready for an official announcement of our Grand Plans for Saturday evening but I promise it will be something special.

I've just looked the tickets up (nothing reserved yet) and looks like its Gatwick.. From what I dug up thus far, trains are much cheaper and have better schedule than the bus.

Unfortunately, although trains run from Gatwick to London, Victoria, there don't seem to be any direct train services from Gatwick to any Birmingham stations at present, and any rail travel will likely involve crossing London by tube from Victoria to Euston.

Regarding travel by rail and tube, it's probably a good idea to avoid travelling during the rush hour on a week day if you can help it, not just because the tube tends to be packed but because some train operators charge extra for travel during 'peak hours'.

I was gonna go up by train, but thought I'd see if anyone wants to do a lift share up to PaizoConUK 2012 from the Portsmouth/Southampton area. In which case we can decide whether to take my car or yours. I could take up to 3 passengers to split costs, but the back seats might not be so comfortable all the way up.

Just to keep everybody updated.
PaizoCon UK 2012 is now officially sold out.

The adventures planned for PaizoCon UK 2012:
Save these for PaizoCon UK: We now have a provisional selection of adventures that will run at PaizoCon UK. Among them are the hottest releases available for July. Paizo doesn't publish new adventures in June so we will also need to use a few earlier adventures. If you have booked a place then you will want to avoid playing these beforehand. You can't play them twice!
3-19: The Icebound Outpost Levels 1-5.
3-20: The Rats of Round Mountain Part I: The Sundered Path for Levels 7-11.
3-EX: The Cyphermage Dilemma Levels 1-5.
3-21: The Temple of Empyreal Enlightenment Levels 1-5.
3-22: The Rats of Round Mountain Part II: Pagoda of the Rat Levels 7-11.
2-EX: The Midnight Mauler Levels 3-7.
3–23: The Goblinblood Dead Levels 1-5.
3–24: The Golden Serpent Levels 5-9
3-18: The God's Market Gamble Levels 1-5.
3–25: Storming the Diamond Gate Levels 3-7.
3–26: Portal of the Sacred Rune Levels 7-11.

We will also be running The Grand Convocation on Saturday evening.

Just so you know Dave I really need to play Andrina this year so would prefer to be in tier 7-8 games

Not a problem :)

Can I play Round Mountain? :)

The Exchange 5/5 Regional Venture-Coordinator, Western Eurasia-Middle East aka Wintergreen

Yes. What would you like to run? ;)

5/5

One or two of the following if it works for you:

3-25, 3-23, 3-EX

In that order of preference.

Btw - You can add the Grand Convocation to the list above.

It's that time of year again...
Motorway works:
The Highways agency site indicates a number of projects in the Birmingham area which may be ongoing during PaizoCon UK this year:

  • M6 junction six structural repair, Gravelly Hill Interchange. (This one should have finished last September according to the projects page, but is still indicated on the map as active. Includes possible closure of link roads including M6 North – Birmingham link.)
  • M5/M6 junction eight Ray Hall viaduct repairs. (Scheduled to finish November 2012, Highways agency site claims it is unlikely to affect motorway traffic but way impact traffic on the A4031 underneath.)
  • M6 junctions five to eight, managed motorways scheme. (Scheduled to begin at some point between April and June 2012, involving preparation for a hard shoulder use scheme.)
  • M42 Junction 6 roundabout resurfacing. (Scheduled to have started in May, and to go on for ‘7 weeks’. Work ostensibly to take place at night time between 22:00 and 05:00.)
  • M5 Junction 5 widening scheme of A38 southbound carriageway. (Scheduled to have started in February 2012 and to have finished eight weeks later, but still indicated on map as active.)

There are a number of other schemes ongoing throughout the country according to the map, including a line of blobs between Junctions 1 and 2 on the M50, a scheme on Junction 19 of the M1 scheduled to start in mid July, and works on the M6 between Preston and Warrington.
The Highways Agency’s interactive map (as of the time of my posting this) can be found *here*.

Are you coming to PaizoCon UK?

We announced the adventures some time ago and asked everyone to avoid playing them. Since then we have been busy allocating players to games to build balanced and legal tables of adventurers. With 120 people of different levels and classes it's a logistical nightmare but we think we have cracked it. At PaizoCon UK we also try to move everyone around so that you can meet other players, adventure with different characters and play with different GMs. (Unless you have requested to stay with a family member.)

It's crunch time! We are now allocating GMs and making final table listings. So please let us know urgently if your levels have changed since you made your booking, or if, for any reason, you can't play in a scheduled PaizoCon UK adventure.
Contact me as soon as possible.

Grand Convocation

If you are coming to PaizoCon UK, we hope that you will attend and assist the Society in mending a potentially disastrous divide between our organization and the Blakros family.
Come as your own favourite character
Don't be shy
Express your inner adventurer!

The Grand Convocation will run on Saturday night. It will be a mix of side events, live interaction and multi-table adventuring.
Come along as your Pathfinder character. Better still come along dressed-up as your own favourite character!

The Exchange 5/5 Venture-Captain, Ireland—Belfast aka heretic

Been so long I cannot 100% remember if all of our groups stated PCs are still at planned level....hope so..... May not be if they opt to do the free RPG day module ;-)

While I remember we were wondering if there would be an expanded dealer area this year.

Just send me an update on character levels as soon as you can.

Gaming space has priority but I will try and sort out something along those lines.

I would also very much like to gather together some of the highest ranking Pathfinder Society Field Agents at this event.

[Those who have 12th level characters, or 11th level characters who could be 12th by the Saturday evening, would you be interested in having those characters attend the Grand Convocation at the high table?]

I have a lvl 12 character. Can I play?

You can certainly be there in character for the social interactive elements but I need all the 4 star GMs running the tabletop elements.

I want to make sure it is awesome!

I hope we are not required to dress up.

Not required but you are welcome to do so.

Many of the GMs are playing key NPCs.

Well all I have to do is lose 8 inches in height and change sex..not gonna happen..So I guess I'll be attending the convovcation as Anhalt not Andrina.

Is the arrangement for cheap on-site parking that was in place in 2011 (£1 per day and £1 overnight) also valid this year?

I think we just paid 6 pounds - for 2 cars. Can't see a price on the print-outs and my wife booked for us.

I believe you can book parking online (and it costs about £12 for Friday to Monday) or you can take a chance that there will be spaces on the day and pay £1 a day. (Not having a car, I don't really know what their system is.)

Keeping an eye on local news for the status of the canals. There's a stretch near to Bournville which floods an adjacent railway line sometimes, and causes havoc with trains in the West Midlands...

Just another typical Saturday night for us both again then

Rail travel from Great Malvern or Atherstone on Sunday may be subject to rail replacement bus services this weekend. Otherwise, no scheduled disruptions to rail services during PaizoCon UK in the West Midlands according to information available at my local station. (No information on further afield on scheduled works.)
Edit:
Those with a relatively up to date version of Adobe Acrobat installed can (at the time of this post) check for scheduled railway engineering works in the West Midlands region on this web page: *Link*

I am taking a train from London (Euston) to Birmingham (New Street). If any of the locals here of disruptions to service, please let me know.

Thanks!

I hope you are travelling after 930am and before 3pm when the ticket price is reasonable.

Train ticket is for 3:15 but was still very reasonable.

May be some showers, but by recent West Midlands standards, weather forecast for next few days looks relatively dry; might even be some sunny spells.

Watch out for organised pickpocket gangs in London. Apparently they're in training for the olympics, so keep an eye on luggage/backpacks at all times as far as possible. :(

Weather report from Birmingham, Friday, approx: 15:30.
Currently cautiously warm (by Birmingham standards) with passing clouds and occasional sunshine. Currently no rain.
No guarantee the weather will hold over the weekend of course...

Well, it should be all over by now (or at least nearly so, depending on if the hangovers tomorrow morning count).

Just want to say thanks to everyone involved with Paizocon Uk - I had a wonderful weekend and have not had so much fun at a convention in years. This was my first Paizocon but it definitely won't be my last. You guys rock!

Just got back from my first ever convention, PaizoConUk 2012 was great fun and really enjoyed meeting everyone and shaking their hands at The Grand Convocation. Saw some really great costumes and cool role playing.

A big thanks to Dave Harrison and Rob Silk for organizing the whole thing, hope Paizo reward you with a feat of great awesomeness for putting everything in place for a great time. A special thanks to all who DM'd and played in the games I was involved with, made me feel right at home and allowed some great moments, including Natty Grastik taking the hobgoblin's waterskin as his first action in battle to quench his insatiable thirst.

Awesome Weekend! BIG THANKS TO EVERYONE!

They were shaking your hand? Brave people :-)

Just in case:

That was definitely a special moment, along with looting all the bodies for more water, and drinking a potion purely because it was a liquid.

I had an absolutely FANTASTIC time at PaizoCon UK and can't thank everyone who attended enough for making me feel at home 6000 miles away. It was nice to finally put names with faces, it was terrific fun, both playing with and GMing for the players in attendance, and I look forward to many more years of watching the PFS scene thrive and grow in the UK and other countries of Europe. I also sincerely appreciate all the feedback, both positive and negative, I received about PFS. A heartfelt thanks to all of you.
