Anyone play a Spirit Shaman from Complete Divine before

3.5/d20/OGL

I just started a new game and one player chose Orc Spirit Shaman as his character. While I really like the idea of swapping out there known spells each day, the number of known spells per day looks like it should be bumped up by one per spell level. Is that too powerful? Is it used as game balance to counter the fact that they change every day? Any other comments on the pros and cons of the class?

Thanks in advance.

You're exactly right, the number of known spells is smaller because spirit shamans aren't locked in and can swap them in and out.

That being said, though it's been a long time since I played one, I definitely remember enjoying the one I played. I felt like a divine sorcerer - it was a lot of fun.

The only tip I can offer is to try and be a well informed as you can be when setting out adventuring each day. I distinctly remember picking spells known one morning to help us through some old ruins, but didn't know there was a troll in the ruins. I was useless that fight, but otherwise I thought it was a plenty enjoyable class.

Ok thanks. I am going to let him apply metamagic feats spontaneously like a sorcere does. It seems unneccessary to make them "fetch" the spell with the metamagic feat applied to it already.
