I've been reading through the new Dungeon Crawl Classics Beta testing rules and am interested in "playtesting" the system. The system has a very old school feel to it, and was a fun read as well! Here is a brief blurb from the Goodman Site:

I am looking for 5-6 players; have a read of the Beta. Here is a bit from the download about character creation:

DCC RPG generates characters using what the author refers to as a “funnel.” First, each player generates at least two, and possibly as many as four, 0-level characters. It is critical that the characters be generated using the process as described: completely random ability scores, random occupation, random Luck modifier, and random equipment. Each player will end up with an assortment of characters who could potentially serve as several different classes. When all characters are generated, have the players go around the table and introduce their 0-level peons to their peers.

The “funnel” takes place in 0-level play. During the first 0-level game, it is expected that each player will lose some or most of their characters. When mere peasants and yeomen explore deadly dungeons, a high mortality rate is to be expected. By the end of the first game, the players will be left with a motley crew of survivors, and this group of heroic adventurers becomes the 1st-level party.

If interested, post here, and we can discuss who your peasants will be :) Feel free to ask any questions. If things go well, there is every possibility of this turning into a long term campaign. Good gaming.

I would love to give that system a go. I never played 1st edition, but it seems like a fun diversion.

I do have a particular dungeon in mind. If things progress well, i will modify some of my favorite old school modules (Village of Hommlet, I am looking at you).

Yes, the game is indeed, kooky in a good way. I think it will be a load of fun. It definitely will be a big change of pace from what i usually play; I've found that people tend to be more creative in such systems.


I downloaded this a couple of days ago and was rather more impressed than I expected to be. I would like to give it a try.

    - Theme: Old School flavor where we start out small; not much is known of the world other than your immidiate surroundings with living itself being a struggle to worry about more esoteric pursuits. I'll build the world around you, purely based on your character actions.

    The Characters are are all folk from the wilderness village of Yoman's Folly. For the past few years, an ogre that lairs in a nearby cave has extorted goods from the town, in exchange for not attacking or destroying town property. Up until now, the ogre's demands have been ale, sheep, and mundane supplies. The townsfolk complied, and the ogre never bothered them. But last month, the ogre's demands included gold and building supplies. This set the townsfolk on edge and then, just last week, the ogre returned to towntwo weeks early to demand more ale, gold, and, even worse, captive townsfolk! The good folk decided something had to be done. They put together a plan to spike the ogre's ale with poison, but when they delivered the ale to the ogre without any prisoners in tribute, the ogre flew into a rage. The brute dragged two townsfolk off to its cave, to be eaten for sure. The ogre's reign of terror must be stopped.

    -Criteria: The first five or six people who express interest and get their characters up will be chosen. I expect courtsey from everyone; since everyone is new to the system, i'd love it if we worked together on gaining understanding of the system.

    - I plan to get the game running by begining of next week.

    - A bit about me; I've been GMing since 1995 and have also GM'd some long term PbP campaigns (not here, but elsewhere, with the longest ongoing for 6 years). I think fun is the most important criteria and am always open to what the people i game with have to say and want from the experience.

    Ok, not really sure what to make of any of them. We'll see how the develop (& if they survive)

    If there's much more interest, I'd suggest letting more players start with less characters each. Then you lose not just characters, but players as they die off.


    Borgmer the Farmer

    Borgmer is a local farmer from near the village of Hommlett, he had lost his prize hen, and at the beginning of story, it's name is Bertha the Bountiful.

    Jothy the Unlikely Soldier

    Jothy was recruited to the local garrison because he was accused of impregnating the magistrate's daughter. Unfortunately for Jothy the little bastard did have his own red hair. The Magistrate keeps sending him into dangerous areas, but Jothy keeps getting lucky.

    Bartlebee the Blacksmith

    Bartlebee's father had him apprenticed to be a blacksmith, he's a lackluster blacksmith, lacking the strength to swing a hammer well, and lacking th eintellect to compensate for his lack of strength, when his master died from a heart attack after yelling til he was literally blue in the face, Bartlebee struck out on his own.


    "Does anyone need their horses shoed?"


    "Do you see any horses around here?"


    "Okay, break it up, nothing to see here."


    Thanks all. I am closing the apps process,otherwise the village might need to be upgraded to a town. I have considered the multiple character issue; each of you will always habe one active character at a given time. You choose who that character is; that character is entitled to the rewards and risks of amy encounter you might run into. You must always have one active character (if someone dies then you will have to put someone else at risk). You may RP all of your characters any time.
