StarCraft II - Heart of the Swarm

Looks awesome so far. (gameplay trailer)

Am I a terrible person because I want a catfight between Sarah and Nova?

Anyway, it does look good. I wonder whether Kerrigan will be personally present in every mission. Looks that way.

What if she falls? Does she have to do anything except attack?

Seems you can "level" her. I wonder what sort of stuff she'll learn.

Blizzard Insider Interview With Dustin Browder[/url]]According to Dustin Browder "Kerrigan will appear on almost every map in Heart of the Swarm. Unlike Raynor, Kerrigan is a creature of power that leads her army from the front, smashing aside siege tanks and destroying battlecruisers with her psionic abilities. And unlike Wings of Liberty, the mission isn’t over if she dies. Kerrigan will be able to revive at the nearest hatchery if she is killed, allowing you to use her aggressively against your enemies."

I'm really wondering if Kerrigan will be good or bad in this. For instance one of the missions that has been revealed has her having her forces slaughter a bunch of dark templar. Seems like a definite bad guy move, except that the protoss are one of many people who want Kerrigan dead. In that light it seems more like an act of self preservation. She doesn't want the full force of the protoss chrushing her vulnerable forces before she has a chance to build them up. It seems like she might be less of an evil, vile villian and more self-interested and filled with anger and hate (towards Mengsk in particular).

I'm hoping that Raynor has some role in the campaign, and doesn't just disappear. In particular it would be cool to have a mini-campaign focusing on him, like the Zeratul mini-campaign in Wings of Liberty. He should definetly have a role in taking down Mengsk for good, if that indeed happens.

In Wings of Liberty, you fought Zerg, Terrans and Protoss. I doubt it will be different in any of the other campaigns. There are bad Protoss, after all, and even the good ones are sometimes overzealous.

A Protos Zealot? Perish the thought!

AS i seem to realize, Sarah will be returned back to being human, and will slowly regain her power...whether zerg power or psionic power, i do not know. What i know is that all screenshots and gameplay clips i've seen say that she will look human, so no wings and stuff..

They might be flashback type of missions.

My suspicions as to the direction of Heart of the Swarm:

Spoiler:
After utilizing the artifact at the end of the Wings of Liberty campaign, I suspect that two Kerrigans emerged - one Sarah Kerrigan and one drastically weakened Queen of Blades. I think Blizzard will be sneaky and have it that Jim carried the Queen of Blades out of the hive cluster on Char and that Sarah remained behind.

If I'm anywhere even remotely close with this guess, I think the campaign will follow the Queen of Blades with a big, gaspy reveal at some point that Jim rescued the wrong one.

Blizzard has a long running habit of turning heroes into villains. I really, really hope they're turning the trope on its ear here and redeeming a villain instead of corrupting a hero. Either that or, during the course of Heart of the Swarm,

Spoiler:
the conflict will spill onto the already war-ravaged lands of Azeroth and Jim Raynor will become the next Lich King. "Because some things are just worth fighting for."

I always figured Azeroth to be ancient Earth. Silthids eventually evolve into Zerg, Dranei already a starfaring race become Protoss, etc.

hmmmm... they do have the head tentacle thingies in common

Very true, but it's not one that Blizzard has milked dry yet. On the contrary, I almost think that they've hardly even touched it at all.

Don't get me wrong, I love the classic tropes, and the ones you linked are quite enjoyable if done right, I'd just like to see Blizzard stop tapping the same exact one over and over and over again.

As if the Redeemed Villain isn't already a trope of its own.

I had a suspicion the next post might be about that :-)

The clues are all there, actually, if you care to try to figure it out yourself ...

If you're too mentally lazy to think for yourself and give it a try ...:

1) You'll notice that Selpher didn't actually quote me ... the quotation is not a perfect match for what I posted;

2) What he quoted and what I posted are very nearly the same, except that one actually means the opposite of the other, due to absent negation;

3) Next time you post something, take a look at it closely after you do so ...

Did you figure it out?

If you're really lazy, here's what happened:

I wrote the post and then tried to Preview it to check the URL tags and such before Submitting. Unfortunately, the Paizo site hung for about 15 minutes or so, and I did some other stuff. When I returned to my post (stopping the Preview) I noticed the error and changed it, then Submitted the post.

However, after I had posted my comment, I noticed that my "Preview" had actually posted to the Board, and Dal Selpher had already replied to the grammatically incorrect version. Having already posted the correct one and still being within 1 hour of having the first one posted, I Deleted the mis-post (being too lazy to correct that one) and left the out-of-chronology correct version ...

... and then waited to see who would be confused by it.

Actualy my 1st guess wqould have been Dal Selpher editing a post to reply to yours...I did not at first notice the difference.

That would have been my second guess...

Though mostly I posted to just kid around. ;)

OR... I have a working flux capacitor. Occam's Razor and all that. =P

Time-travel post antics aside, I must admit that I am quite looking forward to Heart of the Swarm.

Any other wild guesses as to the content of the game?

Nah, the Xel'Naga made those races more or less from scratch.
