DM Kalizar's Kingmakers Group OOC

Play-by-Post Discussion

1 to 50 of 117 << first < prev | 1 | 2 | 3 | next > last >>

Here is the discussion thread. Any communications you want to have with me or the group out of character should be handled here. I trust everyone to be on their honor in this and the game thread, but if you need something you feel spoilers alone cannot cover, then my email is lordkalizar@aol.com. Welcome to the game.

This is Eryndur posting as Adreccam Surtova from here on out, reporting for duty. I'm rooting for you, Kalizar. If you actually manage to pull off 3 Kingmaker threads, you should be officially recognized by Paizo as the most durable DM ever.

This is my first PbP on these boards, by the way. What's the code for that fancy blue OOC text you guys were using in the recruitment thread? And how can I subscribe to a thread so I get instant email notification?

If you hit the show bbc codes button below the text box when posting, you will see how you can type in blue, bold, italics, etc. Typically blue is for out of character or off topic comments as part of a regular post. I use bold text when it is actually something a character is speaking. For internal thoughts or comments not said allowed, I use italics.

Welcome.

Welcome aboard.

Viktor reporting for duty. Hello everybody!

Eryndur, I think you're missing a language on your character. You have just common listed and you should have an extra language based on your intelligence bonus. Though I suppose you might have decided that Adreccam only speaks common. :)

Hey all,

Posting with my Ranger. I think the sheet is complete and good to go.

I'll fill out more of his background in a bit, but overall he feels a bit resentful towards the current ruling class of Brevoy and has a family title to a small plot of land in the Stolen Lands. Raktin sort of feels like his family's interests have otherwise been abandoned and is excited to now get the chance to strike a blow for his family name.

You're right, Viktor. Thanks for the heads up.

Feel free to take a look at my character sheet. If you see anything amiss, please let me know. I use HeroLab and it helps a lot, but sometimes it either misses something or adds more info than is needed.

I just added a little history to my sheet as well as deciding what spells I will have prepared for the day. I figure I will just change my sheet whenever I prepare different spells for the day unless you would prefer another method?

Just let me know when you make changes, and I'll make note on my end. Save me from needing to check back and forth as the game progresses. Thanks.

I am plugging your characters into my copy of Hero Lab over tonight and tomorrow. If anything seems off or different, I will post a spoiler for comment or correction.

Flynn, we should talk about our shared Surtova heritage at some point. Adreccam is a minor scion like yourself, and I think our circumstances preclude us from having known each other before the adventure. I kind of like it that way, though.

I can see us knowing each other ahead of time. Not sure how to integrate that. I guess, technically though, by our backgrounds, we would be cousins.

There are arguments for both your characters knowing each other, and for them only knowing of each other. I will allow the two of you to decide, and I can incorporate either option into the storyline.

I would like to see us go with knowing of each other, and perhaps we have seen each other a couple of times in the past as we grew up. Maybe at family events.

I've added a description for Viktor to his character sheet.

Unless I altered my background, the only realistic way I see Flynn and Adreccam knowing each other was from when they were very young. Adreccam was disowned by his father when he was ten, and kicked into the streets of Restov to fend for himself. He knows he's a Surtova, but has had zero contact with the family for over ten years.

I think it'd be cooler if we adventured together for a long time, and then slowly came to the realization that we're related. It'd be a cool revelation to have in the future.

Whatever's clever, though. I'm not picky.

Copying Vik as usual, I've added a phys description as well.

I had forgotten that bards get the ability to use knowledge skills untrained at first level (for some reason I thought it was later), so I've updated my character sheet with all of the knowledge skills.

Please don't kick me out. Just trying to be the punk teenager, who saw an opening and took it. Will probably have to work hard though to get that respect I may deserve in the future.

Pshaw, no one took it personally oocly. Don't worry about it. Your character is the youngest in the party and also CN. I think we're all expecting him to be at least a little impetuous. ;)

Well, things certainly took an interesting turn! Yikes!

Hrm, that last post of mine is supposed to have come after Adreccam's response. But it seems to have disappeared. I suppose it works where it is, so I'll leave it for now. But I wanted to note that I didn't mean to talk so much before Adreccam got to respond. ;)

Your post about me getting to use my shield is the first post on the new page, I believe. At least it is with my board settings. And I appreciate the support, Viktor! I think I'm in way over my head. See where my big mouth gets me? ;)

Ah, yeah, it's in the right place now. For a moment it wasn't showing your response as the last on the previous page.

Should be fun! Some of us just know how to make sure our heritage isn't known when we don't want it to be. ;)

Or some know the truth, and do not wish to give up the advantage. Yet.

Question relevant to the duel:
Can shields be disarmed or must they be sundered? In Pathfinder you can't disarm something worn, but it's not clear whether shields are "worn" or "carried".

Arguments that it can be disarmed: It can be equipped with the same actions it takes to equip weapons. And it can be used like a weapon. Weapons are "carried".

Arguments that it can't: It's strapped to the forearm and listed under armor. Armor is "worn".

Alrighty, looks like they can be. ;)

For the dramatics of the scene, I allowed the shield to be lost in the scramble from the attack.

In a true life or death conflict, no, the shield would not have been disarmed, Adreccam would have only lost hold of the handle for that round, so basically shieldless until his next action. Fair? Opinions welcome.

I don't mind either way. I'm happy with people having a reason not to sunder shields.

It's my understanding that if you beat CMD by 10 (which you did), then you disarm everything the victim is wielding. Since I used my shield to attack, I lost its bonus to AC for the next round (though there was no next round, to my everlasting shame). So, my interpretation is that when I use the shield to attack, it is a wielded weapon for that round and the following round. Otherwise, the shield is armor, and cannot be disarmed.

Long story short, I think it played out just fine.

I'm good either way on the shield thing. Just as long as we all know what it is going to be moving forward. Not much else makes you feel as upset as when a rule changes mid-campaign. Believe me, I know. I've had a couple of things that have changed in my home campaign due to a new FAQ release or errata and the players were not happy. And that's "Official".

Love the dialogue so far and the descriptions. Keep up the good work. But please don't make Ratkin wait any longer, I think he's about to destroy some perfectly good books. ;)

I have not forgotten you, I have not abandoned you. Work has been a pain, and home issues have interrupted the normal flow. I will get back on track this evening. Sorry for the delay.

Huzzah!

I was gonna post something earlier about if the thread was still alive or not. But then I saw DM Kalizar's post and it was only a couple of minutes old. Glad to hear its still alive! Hope life gets more normal for you DM.

I think you meant to include the following line in the other thread and not ours: "Keiran returns as the men ask you to sit. Lord Mayor Sellemius takes the podium while Lord Orlovsky and Jacob Pero take seats at the table."

Kieran returning to the study would be...odd. ;)

Will post the Assembly's response in the morning. Just waiting for the last party member to post.

Adreccam, please note you have earned a Hero Point.

All players begin with two action points and zero hero points.

All players have earned an additional action point, bringing beginning totals to three.

Current reputations have been compiled and recorded.

A player can spend an action point to add 1d6 to any to hit roll, saving throw, critical confirmation, or skill check prior to determining if the current roll result is successful.

A player can spend an action point to add 1 point to any to hit roll, saving throw, critical confirmation, or skill check after determining the current roll result is a failure.

Hero Points are used as described in the Advanced Player's Guide, except that Hero Points are only awarded by the DM, per DM discretion, not by leveling up.

Yay, thanks!

"The Lord Mayor informs Adreccam, the last to leave the meeting..."

Actually, Raktin is the only one that stayed in the room.

No, from both Raktin and Adreccam's last posts, I decided Rak left, much as Flynn did. Adreccam was the last to leave the room.

I can't find any mention of "Crimson Claw" troopers anywhere. What are they and is there some special significance to their appearance that any of our characters might be aware of or that may be commented upon by the general populace of the city?

The Crimson Claw and Crimson Scale are soldiers loyal to the Surtova faction of the Brevic military.

AP - Read at your own discretion:
They play a role later, when King Surtova attempts to take over your "outlaw kingdom" via military force, should the PbP make it that far into the AP.

I'm assuming I would have some knowledge of who and what are the Crimson Claw and Crimson Scale.

We will assume basic troop names and types will be common knowledge, but none of you will have particular information about specific units or individuals at this time.

At work with only my iPhone right now. Will post this evening. Sorry for being out of the loop for this recent exchange!
