CC in the Golarion calender?

Carrion Crown

I don't suppose it really matters, but I was wondering if anyone knows the intended "start date" of this campaign is. In addition I've been considering additions to setting the mood beyond just the music. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

I put it in August ... leaves falling, comming of winter... rain, fog...better scenario.

I believe it begins in Lamashan (October), at least that's the date in the letter regarding the funeral.

I, Petros Lorrimor, hereby sign this will in Ravengro on this

first day of Calistril, in the year _____.

Calistril = Feb and as Ustalav is in the Nothers Hemisphere its Winter. But thats when he WROTE the Will...dosnt mean its "now" for all the story cares he could have writen it 1/2 or 1 yeah before the event.

I like the Autumn setting. Also it makes later for harder travel (Snow)..:)

As far as I know APs are assumed to start in the month they're released. (i.e. take the year of the release, add 2700, rename the month and you're good to go.)

It's not like they don't work by starting at a different time, but adjusting so it fits the season is a job for the GM. :)

I haven't been able to find this letter you referenced, where did you find it, please?

I read somewhere that each campaign takes place about 1 year apart. But that said, it's only a guideline/suggestion.

I beleive my gaming group have completed 3 adventure paths (Rise of the Runelords, Curse of the Crimson Throne, Second Darkness). Two are currently ongoing Council of Thieves and a homebrew one, but I consider those to be in the same year as in real life they're being run concurrently. But also they're in different parts of the world (one in Cheliax, the other in the Mwangi Expanse). As such, once we begin Carrion Crown we'll be up to 4712. But that's just the sort of crazy thing I work out ;)

Hi All,

The AP lets you decide the time of year your adventure starts: “The date at the end of the will is left blank so you can synchronize this handout with your campaign’s timeline. See Chapter 4 of the Pathfinder Campaign Setting: Inner Sea World Guide for details on time and dates on Golarion.”

Let the ebb and flow of your game decide things like weather and climate. If it needs to snow in August, err, Arodus, then you better believe it will!

Given the time limit imposed on the players, this is the first time I've actually mapped the starting month (using the templates here: http://www.wincalendar.com/word-calendar-templates.htm). I had the party arrive in Ravengro on the 2nd of Pharast (March), 4711. Pharast has a few great hooks for starting Carrion Crown:

-Lorrimor's Will is dated Calistril, last month. Adds resonance to know that he was thinking of the PCs just before his untimely demise.

-Holidays. Pharast has two, Pharasma's Day of Bones (in which the recently dead are somberly paraded through town, great time for an Event 4) and Firstbloom (spring ceremony, good time for An event 3 or 4). Both fit very well.

-Weather. I mapped out the weather for the month, and made sure to note movement and combat rules. Early spring means lots of rain and fog, which add to the atmosphere. I've even planned for a little snow, just because I like the image of adventures fighting skeletons or dealing with creepy haunts against a stark white background. You can also have PCs use the snow to track something into the woods, only to be caught in a downpour that erases the tracks of both the party and the pursued.

-Timing. Given six adventure paths (and maybe Carrion Hill), I figure the party will take about 7 or 8 months, with travel, downtime and personal side quests. I like the idea of using Lamashan (October) in Carrion Crown, but I like it even more for the end of the campaign. The players fight against death itself as everything around them withers and dies!

That's my two copper.
