can someone please explain what this feat is for? i'm trying to picture some useful use out of this (especially considering there's an add-on feat to this called improved sidestep...)

cheers,

PDK

You could use the sidestep to circle an opponent (to provide flanking for an ally for example). Or if you are fighting someone with natural reach (can attack at 5 and 10 foot) you could sidestep to gain a bit distance so you can use withdraw next round.
If you are fighting multiple enemies in melee, sidestep might keep you in threat range of you first attacker but not in the range of all of them.

Overall, I'm not too impressed by the sidestep feats, especially with their steep requirements. There might be more uses for them but I can't think of any.

I think the more useful thing is to get closer to an opponent with reach, not getting away from it... ;)

But still, situationnal, can be useful in some situations but not always... Step up is much much more useful IMO :)

but you can't use this to get out of reach! the feat specifically says you must land in a square that still threatens you! it's utterly moronic! a big stupid waste of two feats if you ask me!

You can sidestep out of reach of any opponent other than the one attacking you. It could be useful for getting out of flanks.

Also, nothing in the feat description says you can't use it multiple times in a round. This could be a great way to circle around an opponent for free to find your own flanks. Granted, you have to hope your opponent(s) do a lot of missing for this trick to work.

Sovereign Court

this feat should be a reverse "Step Up" i.e. should allow you to move sideways or away from the guy swinging at you. This "must keep dancing within reach of the big bear trying to maul you" feat is otherwise utterly dead to me.

EDIT: and it should be one feat instead of two feats really... I made a few fighter builds for a close range archer the other day, and even single class fighter doesn't have TWO feats to waste on something that gives such as small advantage...

I think its biggest advantage is to move out of flanks on your opponent’s turn and/or move into flanks for your teammates when it’s not your turn.

Sidestep

Except for the part "... you may move 5 feet as an immediate action ...".

While I commented on an old post, the thread was not necroed by me.

Besides, someone should have said it years ago.
