Has anybody had their party wander into the hexes around the SL's fort (detailed in RRR) before encountering the fort?
How can you railroad, er persuade, your party to the correct hex and not wander into the next AP?
I know the encounters around the fort are not that difficult, but I wouldn't want to reveal RRR too early, if that makes any sense.

Well, given that your PCs will have made some local connections by then such as with Bokken, Oleg and Svetlana, and others, you could have the Stag Lord start leaning heavily on them and make it obvious that unless he is taken down soon, their friends (and resources!) are going to suffer.
That or to make it even more personal, the Stag Lord stages an attack on the PCs in order to get rid of the 'rivals' to his crown. He loses several of his bandits, and then the PCs go after him to stop their main enemy before he can rebuild his forces.

I'd just let them go wherever they want. On the other hand, if they're ignoring their charter on purpose, you might want to point that out to them (they are actively searching for the Stag Lord, right?). If they don't know where the Stag Lord's fort is and they're just searching around for it, then they could very well run into things that are supposed to be part of RRR. Of course, *some* of the things they might run into are far more dangerous and may goad them in the right direction on their own.

I was lucky in that the only 'out of bounds' hex my party tried before tackling the Stag Lord was the one with Narthropple's expedition. I second the suggestion of explicitly pointing out that their charter doesn't cover the area they're moving into - use the 'Voice of God' if there isn't a handy NPC around to point it out to them.

That's kinda the point of sandbox, to me anyway. Sure, I had to drag out RRR before we finished SL, and I've had to dig out VV before we finish RRR becuase they (logically) wanted to explore all the way to the mountains to the east before going too far south.
As Tem said, certain encounters will nudge them back int the right direction, but I'd suggest letting them wander.

I found that problematic and removed many of the encounters in the forest leaving it for Random encounters. Then when the group built there city some 18 months had passed. That's when the encounters re-appeared. It was easy to hide the encounters, either they creatures were not there yet or they were in hiding.
