DM Wandering Loremaster |
Welcome to the game! Congratulations on being selected.
First things first: you need to make an alias and a character sheet. Please will you all use the same format for your character sheet to make it easier for me to review them.
Suggested format is DO's character from the other ME game (link)
Any rules queries, let me know.
DM Wandering Loremaster |
I'm liking the enthusiasm!
I have put the rules for Audiences and for Journeys into the campaign tab: please make sure you at least have a quick look so they don't come as a shock.
One of the first things that will happen once the game starts will be an Audience, so the better you know the rules the smoother it will go :-)
@Morwen: do you have any thoughts on what you want to take as your Known Lands? There's a map at the top of the screen, but you will probably need to view it at 200% zoom to make any sense of it.
@Everyone: I will be writing a Chronicle of events (a sort of campaign diary). Can you let me have the year and month of your character's birth? It will help me keep track and allow a proper sense of time passing.
Morwen of House Isildur |
From Mount Gram to Trollshaw would be her stomping grounds so to speak. As that is part of the area that was once Rhudaur.
Also we need to talk about what her heirloom is. Because that is kinda what gives her away.
As for her birthday and such... I'll get back to you on that!
Illyria of Rohan |
Hello all! Glad to be here :)
Just FYI, I know our DM from F2F gaming although he assures me that I'm here on merit.
I honestly hadn't thought about an exact age for Illryia. The player guide says you start "adventuring" at 16 for the Rohirrim, so let's add a couple of years to that for her to get noticed enough to join the King's Guard, and then another couple to get promoted (even the idiot king isn't idiot enough to give command to a teenager, right?). Her first command ended badly fairly early on, so she's 21 now. Date of birth: March 2925.
@the DM. Can I change some gear around? Slayers start with a couple of hand-axes, but I think spears would make more sense for a Rider. Spears are a bit cheaper so I'm 'losing' money on the deal but I'm ok with that.
For character building I am assuming the usual 27-point buy that 5e uses? (15=9 pts, 14=7 pts, 13= 5 pts, 12=4 pts, 11=3 pts, 10=2 pts)
Illyria of Rohan |
Aww, thanks! XD
I really like the constrast between our characters, btw: Morwen's not been given the respect she has rightfully earned while Illyria was given a position of command she didn't rightfully earn (and proceeded to royally screw it up).
Bergur, Son of Ragni |
Dotting in! Profile should be complete, although I do need to roll for starting silver.
Silver Pieces: 7d6 ⇒ (2, 3, 4, 6, 6, 5, 4) = 30
Amusingly the disguise kit isn't listed anywhere in the equipment section, despite agents gaining proficiency. In the regular 5e handbook the disguise kit is the same price as thieves tools, so GM permitting I'll buy one for 25s.
Tatyana Weis |
Regarding birthdays, Brigg has no idea when hers is. She believes she was around 8 years old when Ragni took her in. If asked, (and feeling any pressure to answer), she'll give Ragni's birthday (August 5th) as her own.

OK, but I have to tell you that this campaign won't be going there any time soon, if at all. I want to strike a balance between selecting lands that are "in-character" and actually giving you a chance to use that ability from time to time.
Also we need to talk about what her heirloom is. Because that is kinda what gives her away.
Sure thing. Send some ideas my way and we'll get the ball rolling :)

No problem! I agree the Rohirrim would be far more likely to use spears than axes.

Yup, spot on.

Works for me.

Wow, 2 different aliases, you're taking this seriously :D
No need to provide a precise birth date, a rough idea of how hold s/he is will do fine.

Also, let's have a consistent stat-line for ease of reference. I'm thinking something like:
[Gender-Culture-Class] 1 | HP | AC | Perception + | Initiative + | Insight + | Wis save + | Con save + | [Link to Portrait (optional)]
I see Illyria and Morwen have gone with a character portrait/image, but it's not obligatory by any means.
Ónar |
Hi All - apologies am a tad late to the party. Very honoured to be selected, looks a great group :)
In the interests of avoiding duplicate classes I'm going to make Ónar, Son of Óin a Warrior rather than than another Wanderer. DM WL has giving me the okay to make the change, just need to do some rejigging of his backstory and get Ónar's crunch done.
Full disclosure before we start traveling the roads of Middle Earth: On Saturday my 9 year old rescue Staffy passed away. Darby was diagnosed in early Dec with an inoperable brain tumour and we've been caring for, and managing his condition since then. It's been a rough road and I know he's now at peace, but our boy was the epicentre of our lives and we're heartbroken and lost without him.
WW was gracious enough to select me knowing my RL situation, and that my posting may be hit or miss for a wee while. However I'm a long time player and GM on these boards and pride myself on being in games for the long-haul. Please bear with and I'll try to keep up best I can.
Meantime I'll get this placeholder profile up and get to working on his build.
Thanks
Black Dow/Gary

@Black Dow/Gary: I'm sorry for your loss.
@Morwen: Perhaps Morwen visited some local lands on an excursion with other rangers? It would be a reason to have that balance of Known Lands that WW referred to.
@WW: 12th Frery 2929.
@All: I'm looking forward to this tale. :)

I'll tweak Harry's tagline and sheet again. I've yet to find the portrait that I'd be 100% happy with.

@Ónar - glad to have you with us! Take the time you need, I can always bring you in to the game at a slightly later point.
@Illyria - character sheet looks good.
@Bregur/Brigg - character sheet looks good, although Brigg's description/personality spoilers are the same as Bregur's. Not a problem for now of course since Brigg won't be needed right away :)
@Morwen - Let me know when your character sheet is done
@Harry - character sheet looks good. I had overlooked the particular Cultural Virtue you picked (lots of moving parts to keep track of). Am I right in reading it as basically replacing every entry in the cultural familiarity chart with "Friendly"? Be aware that in some Audiences, there may still be a penalty if the speaker expects one of their own to do the talking (e.g. at King Dain's court). That said, even a minor penalty to the "Friendly" DC is likely to be better than the "Unknown" or "Hostile" DC so it will ultimately be up to you guys if you decide it's worth the risk ;)
Also, we will be using Earth months. Even learning the Golarion ones took me years and I still get them muddled.
Harry Kettlegrass |
It looks like it's friendly relations by default for Harry. He's a good-natured guy even if he doesn't have high social skills. It could work out if someone helps him with advantage on persuasion etc. He does also have "Tongues of Many Peoples" so he can speak a little elvish or dwarfish to be understood.
Ah fair enough! 12th February 2929 then. :)
Illyria of Rohan |
Hehehehe, I won't lie that was another reason! I want Morwen to see the other side.
Devious! I like XD Hope you get well soon.
Sorry to hear of your loss, Onar.
@DM: NO! Bad person, trying to take our scholar's virtue! Resist, Harry! Don't let him sweet-talk you.
Harry Kettlegrass |
Is it too early to think about journey roles?
Guide: (Survival)
Scout: (Stealth; Investigation)
Hunter: (Survival)
Look-Out: (Perception)
Harry would probably best work as a Look-Out if anything. :)
Illyria of Rohan |
Ah the wiles of the tricksy DM. ;)
Sure, he's saying all those nice things now, but we both know that when you wake up in the morning your virtue will be gone - and so will he :P
From the player guide, I think the Wanderer class is best suited for the Guide role. I've got decent Wisdom but nothing in the way of stealth so the Hunter role is probably the best one for me.

...are you done?
virtue-aly XD

Alright. Assuming that the strep hasn't carried Morwen away, we will be starting this game tomorrow - I have re-jigged the beginning slightly to allow Onar to come in a bit later if needed.
For now, I have some games of my own that I have been neglecting and need to get back to!
DM Wandering Loremaster |
Sorry for the delay, life intervened. Posting in the gameplay thread now!
@Morwen - I hope you're feeling better. Feel free to post and RP as you like, but I will need a character sheet reasonably soon.
@Onar - let me know once you are up to posting and I will bring you in to the game.
@Everyone - feel free to peek under all the spoilers, but remember that player knowledge and character knowledge should not be mixed.
Morwen of House Isildur |
Just to warn you all, I've had a bad reaction to my antibiotics. They forgot to put the 'take with food' sticker on the bottle. So I've been taking them without food... Causing my gut bacteria to freak out, which caused nausea, vomiting, and dizziness from low blood sugar. So my reply may look... Weird. You have been warned.
Illyria of Rohan |
@Morwen, that sounds nasty and I hope you are doing better. I have put a question to you in gameplay but if you aren't up to posting yet feel free to ignore it.

If the rest of the party is happy to let me, I can roll Traditions for Harry. He does know rather a lot about other peoples. :)
DM Wandering Loremaster |
Heh. I always find it intriguing when my character starts to go in a direction I wasn't expecting!
Character sheet looks good, although I'm pretty sure you get to add your Dex to damage with a bow (happy to be corrected).
Also, we need to sort your Known Lands. I would suggest picking one (two at most) from your home region and pick the rest from this side of the Misty Mountains. Maybe you took your time getting to Dale and had time to explore?
