Iconic Varisian Wizard

Advice

Sovereign Court

We may be playing around Carrion Crown here soon. Or atleast a 3 shot version. And I'm looking at loadin up the Iconic Wizard Type only with a Varisian twist (Dr Strange in a Castlevania setting keeps popping in my head for some reason). What can I do for spell power?

What Traits?

What Feats? (I know I was Varisian Tatoo, at least I think I do)

What race? Human, H-Elf, H-Orc?

What School? (Universal? Evocation?)

Any PrCs after a certain point?

Stats. 20pt buy right now. I'm thinking...
STR:10
Dex:13
Con:12
Int:16
Will:12
CHA:12

I think the GM wants to take us starting at 1st to however far CC will take us.

Thanks!

I personally like the "no stat dumping approach" first off. That is a solid, well-rounded build. Make sure you have a race that bumps the INT to 18 (Elf, Half-orc, half-elf, human, Changling)

Traits: Maybe Dangerously Curious (Use Magic Device class skill) to have you being a dabbler in all things magic or Focused Mind for extra concentration check bonus.

Feats: Varisian Tattoo for your theme. Spell Focus is good otherwise

Race: I like Humans for wizards. The extra skill point (good for knowledges) and the extra feat (Improved Initiative or Toughness; Spell Focus if you want to go the Varisian Tattoo route for build flavor)

School: Maybe Air(Lightning) or Water(Cold) School. For Evocation route, Admixture School is really good. It lets you alter the primary element for the evocation damage spells cast. Enchantment types are also good, but not the best for Carrion Crown.

PrC: I would suggest sticking with Wizard. Unless these are some good ones in ultimate magic, stick with single class.

As a variant of the concept you mentioned, you could be of the Scryer School and then go with the Harrower prestige class from the World Guide. That would fit well with the setting.

If you're looking for a more classic wizard build. . . unless you really need all that Charisma. . .

Str 10 (0)
Dex 16 (5) (+2 elf)
Con 12 (5) (-2 elf)
Int 18 (10) (+2 elf)
Wis 12 (2)
Cha 8 (-2)

Focused Mind is the best trait. Anything else that boosts saves or initiative is fine.

Race is kind of a taste choice in PF. I like elven wizards myself, but human/half-orc/half-elf are all OK as long as you boost Int somehow.

See, I'd go:

Str 7
Dex 14
Con 14
Int 16 (18 with bonus)
Wis 12
Chr 12

Strength is potentially cool, but not nearly as much fun as Charisma.

But it's really a matter of personal taste.

Yeah, I like the taste of stats that are supported fairly well by the class (:

But Cha vs. Str isn't as big of a deal as it used to be (before ant haul/muleback cords). I like starting out at level 1 with at least 10 Str for encumbrance purposes (before access to all-day ant haul and muleback cords). Otherwise I dump Str if I can. . . at least for classic wizard builds.

Human conjurer with the tattoo and augment summons, fluff using the harrow cards as foci for your spells. (Possibly see if dm will allow the deck as your bonded object, dangerous but fun.) Squeeze wis for cha, possibly trait for bluff and sense motive.

Your character has to be human if you want Varisian tattoo at 1st level, as it has spell focus as a prerequisite. Otherwise you're waiting until at least 3rd level to pick up the feat. (And the tattoo.)

Uhm, didn't the OP mention he wanted a Varisian Wizard? Doesn't that automatically exclude non-human races? (except maybe half-orcs and half-elves)

And I thought the iconic Varisian wizard was a sorcerer

I think "iconic" was meant more as what you envision when you think of a wizard

Yeah, Varisian wizards would be kind of rare. . . at least "iconic" wizards.

True. But its not impossible to have a Varisian as a wizard. I thought it would be different enough, but not too different.
