0 lvl opposition school spells for a wizard?

Rules Questions

I know that the Core book states that specialist wizards gain all 0-lvl spells except for those in their opposition schools, but is there any way to pick up those? Can they be added to your spellbook with the spells you gain while leveling, or by copying them? I assume that they would still take up 2 slots worth of 0 level spells.

You can add them just like you can add the standard spells, copy from scroll/spellbook etc.

The only caveat is just like regular spells preparing them takes two slots each.

you can gain them the same way a wizard would gain any spell, via level up's or to buy the scrolls and write them in

(edit) grr you laz for posting the answer before me :)

Thanks folks.

Hmm...is it possible to scribe, prepare and use Read Magic if you have Divination as an opposed school?

Once you learn it from a scroll/another spellbook/from spells got as you gain level you can use it by devoting two 0th level slots to it.

EDIT: After rereading Wizard section I would say that Wizards do not have to learn it first. They do not have it in their spellbook but they don't need it in their spellbook to prepare it. Personally, I would prohibit creating magic items requiring it without actually learning it but it would certinly be house rule.

Read Magic despite it's school is the one spell ALL wizards master and cast normally. To date though, I have yet to see a wizard cast it since the beginning of 3.0.

You never have anyone using scrolls or scribing spells?

Spellcraft can be used to decipher scrolls without the need to cast read magic. Basically the only time you would use it is if for some reason you were really neglecting spending points on Spellcraft.

Even with maxed spellcraft the dc starts pretty high, DC 21 for a first level scroll. The best you are going to do with a low level wizard is what, 50-50?

When the chances are 50-50 you just take 10.
