Hey guys, I've got a group of 20-30 something year old gamers looking for a DM to run a fortnightly or monthly Pathfinder game.
We have 4-6 players, live in Sydney and play mainly Saturdays/Sundays around the Chatswood or Epping areas.
If your a DM looking for a group to run an Adventure Path we'd be perfect for it as we haven't played any of the Paizo ones.
If your keen drop me an email at reebo1@tpg.com.au
Thanks

4-6 players and no one wants to GM? :p
On the other hand, at least there are a few gamers kicking about the Chato/North Syd/lower north shore area.
yeah its sad because we just don't have the time to DM (kids, work etc) but can easily make it to games.
Know anyone?
Shifty |

Well not really...
We have a group pretty similar to yours, and the same age group (kids, wives, mortgages... the whole catastrophe!) and yeah the hard part is getting a GM.
What we found works for us is having two campaigns running, that way we can alternate the workload a litle, and give people time to enjoy the game, otherwise burnout can be an issue.
As a pointer from the sideline, also might help to give a bit of background of what you guys are looking for? GM's are a bit of a breed with some very particular ideas of what happens in what they run, which can get untidy if the players are coming from a differing headspace. So the more detail the better!
Do you guys have a set venue?
What resources are available?
Who buys the chips & dips?
What session lengths are you working to? a couple of hours? allnighters?
By way of comparison, I'd put...
We have a fixed group of players (5) who have known each other for years.
Sessions held at one of the players businesses (we have an airconed boardroom environment).
Our sessions are 1230-7ish on a Sunday, or 2.30-10 on a Sat.
Approx every 3 weeks.
Players favour low to mid level campaigns, and are of a pretty relaxed attitude to gaming.
:)
There were a few guys on the North Shore looking, Dementrius (I think) and possibly Mothman if I'm not mistaken, who were north shore players. Not sure if they were volunteering to GM though.

Hey Reebo, got your email. Fortunately (or unfortunately depending on your point of view) I have found a good group in the inner west. We are currently playing Curse of the Crimson Throne, someone else is GMing, and I will probably GM the next campaign (which at our current rate of play will be in a year or two).
Long story short I’m not looking for a group anymore!
I think Dementrius might still be looking for a group, but I’m not sure if he would prefer to GM or play. He is based somewhere around Hornsby I think.
To follow Shifty’s group demographics ...
Our group currently consists of 8 players (typically between 5 to 8 of us make a session); most of the others have been gaming together for something like 15 years (on and off) I think, I and one other guy are fairly recent additions. Most of us are in our thirties, married, kids, full time jobs, mortgages, that sort of thing.
We play at various people’s houses in and around Sydney’s inner west.
We play every fortnight on a Friday night, from 8pm till midnightish.
It looks like for the foreseeable future we’ll be playing Paizo adventure paths, using PFRPG rules with some houserules. Most of the group favour games with lots of roleplaying, intrigue, and activities for their characters to partake in outside the storyline of the adventure.

Hey Shifty and Mothman thanks for replying.
- Basically we have 5 regular players (including myself who normally DMs)
- We have over 100 years of combined gaming experience having played all versions of D&D, Star Wars, Earthdawn, Shadowrun and Mutants & Masterminds
- I've know the players for over 10 years, one over 20+. One of the players (the gf of one of the guys) I've known for under a year.
- We usually play at Chatswood where one of the guys lives or at the couples place in Epping
- We either go out for lunch or order in.
- Games usually start at 11am and go to 5-6pm
- Youngest player is in her 20s the rest of us in our 30s
- We love to roleplay and once played a Shadowrun game with no combat
Anyway if you guys know of anyone looking to DM a good group or heck if you need another player drop me a line.
Thanks
Reebo

Ekeebe |

Well I may have a want to DM for you, the only thing is, I have a 3 month old daughter, and she takes up a lot of my time, I live in Campbelltown, and so getting to you would only be a 2 hour train ride (no car, but no worries)
I'll give you my email address, and I will ask my other half about monthly gaming sessions (can't do any better due to work and children).
I have about 6 years experience GMing, and can get my hands on any PF AP from my old gaming group, we all collectively bought the books, just need to get myself a hardcover copy of the Core Rulebook and Bestiary.
I am 24 and have played through/GMed CotCT, RotRL, LoF, SD, and Kingmaker.
I'll drop you an email, but leave it with me for a week or so, and I'll get you a final decision.

![]() |

I guess its not toooo bad, one train trip and plenty of time to prep on the way there and back :P
Personally I'm glad its only 15 mins to get to my group over in Rosebery.
Already GMing for one group, otherwise I'd have put hand up for a while as Chatswood is only a 5 min walk away!
Yeah Ekeebe didn't really work out, though it was a nice offer, he has much more important priorities to worry about than DMing by band of miscreants so we are still looking.
Shifty, think about it - a 5 min walk, you'll be doing wonders for climate change! ;-)
If you guys can keep your ears open for DMs LFG that would be appreciated.

Hi , first post but have lurked for a while . Saw this and thought we might help each other . I have around 15 years DM'ing experience , live in Parramatta , own car , PF core +bestiary 1& 2 . Newly converted from 3.5 D&D .
The down side - as a shift worker I have a fortnightly roster and need to work out a schedule based around that .
Otherwise , would love to meet new players and get involved !

Will keep an eye out for sure.
Dementrius hasn't been on the boards for a while by the looks.
Not sure my gaming group would be happy with meninja'ing off, and not sure the house Ogre would appreciate me picking up another game session each month (despite that I would like it :p)
Just quietly lurking mate. And DMing my 5 year old son's first game.
*lurks*

Well long time no see!
Thanks for dropping Stealth Mode, even if just to say hi :p
How you finding running stuff for a 5yo? My resident housemunchkin is 10 and has expressed a desire to play, though I have sort of fobbed the idea off.
I'd have entertained the idea of running something for these guys (they are only down the road) but I'm already GMing a campaign and playing in one, I like that balance! Too much GMing is what had me stop gaming back when.

Gaming with 5 year olds advice:
1) I lined up all of my "good guy" miniatures from when I painted Warhammer Fantasy Battle stuff and said "Which one do you want to be?". To which he replied "The guy with the bow so I can shoot arrows at people from far away". Sound tactical mind already.
2) Name - I let him choose whatever name he liked - it came out as "Arraman" which was a modified "Arrow Man" i.e. the guy with a bow that shoots arrows.
3) Limited stats to start with: AC, HP, Attack Mod, Damage. That's all they really need to know to start with. The math is still a bit hard, but we "count on" from the dice roll to get to the result.
4) I've basically started him on a simplified "Pools of Radiance" campaign from the 1986 computer game. Remember that all the cliche stuff you've played is new to them, so don't sweat coming up with super elaborate story lines.
5) Three encounters is about his attention span for a session (about 45 mins).
6) I only give him two options at any point (do you want to do this or this?). Anything more just gets too confusing.
7) Cool treasure and level up in the first session (3 arrows that burst into flame? Wow Dad!), and generously sprinkled throughout.
His three year old brother sits at the table and draws while we play, but is obviously watching intently because he interjects with advice all the time (mostly to do with stabbing things). I think I've got the little buggers hooked...

My almost-five year old spent last night flipping through the bestiary, rolling polyhedron dice and doodling on a bit of paper because ‘I want to be like daddy’ (gods help the kid).
I’ve been thinking of running a game for him but not sure when is the right time. That’s some good advice though Dementrius.

My 6 year old asked me how we play the game (when I was putting all my dice and books away from the previous nights game)... I scratched my head for a moment and said Ok....
You are a princess and one morning you wake up and find your crown is missing ... What do you do...?She said she looked around.
I said you can see a goblin running into the forest from your window at the top of your tower.
She said that she ran down the stairs to catch the goblin. I said that she had a skill of 5 at running and that she had to roll a 20 sided dice and add 5 and if that was more than 10 she would catch up to the goblin.
That way I got her to do some adding.
It went well but we were supposed to be tiding up so she got to catch the goblin and made him promise not to steal any-more.

I can wholeheartly recommend Enid Blyton's "The Enchanted Wood", "The Magic Faraway Tree" and "The Wishing Chair" (plus sequels) as good precursors to getting your kids into the hobby. There's pixies, goblins, giants and other crazy world-hopping, teleporting fey s--t going on, plus as a bonus, all the magic depicted has verbal, somatic and material components.
And Dame Washalot is hawt.

The Big L |

Hi guys.
I'm going to be moving to Chatswood sometime in the next month, and i've been gaming for about 3 years, but reading about it for about 10. Thanks to growing up in a small town, not alot of opportunity for games.
I'm 23, and would be more then willing to run a Pathfinder campaign, as it is something I've wanted to do since picking up the Core Rules.
hopefully, someone checks this thread :p
email me at one_big_L@hotmail.com if you do

My crew just wrapped one campaign of two that are running (It had been going since PF beta) and we are set to start a new one... so all is pretty good.
Looks like the scene is genrally doing quite well :)

Our group is 7th level after 18 sessions. I'm running various PF modules, Dungeon magazine modules and some 1st edition modules from the 80s.
We also started a Goblin campaign and I ran We Be Goblins followed by Fallen Fortress. I then realized that both this adventures end with the party fighting a druid and animal companion. lol

I've still been short of a regular game, with our Rise of the Runelords campaign grinding slowly along, but [self promotion] I've been keeping myself busy.[/self promotion]

Wish we could accommodate you mate but we're getting close to needing to split our group in two. If we lose any players I'll let you know.

Edit: and still no Lower North Shore gaming stores.
Shifty I know you're all for supporting local gaming stores but when the price is double (postage included) in store compared to buying from Paizo you got to ask yourself "can I afford it?"
Hey I just realized our possible future DM was born the same year I started playing D&D. Damn those 70's and 80's movie references are gonna go to waste ;-)

Our group’s Curse of the Crimson Throne campaign is still trooping along. It’s taking us a lot longer to complete then anticipated (our GM had estimated we would be finished the campaign in about the time it ended up taking us to get to the end of Book 3), but I think everyone is still having fun. Our regular GM, Ollie has been taking a bit of a break, so The 8th Dwarf and Chubbs McGee have been at the helm, taking us delightfully off track into the Korvosan hinterlands.
I’ve been posting our campaign journal here if anyone is interested.

Cool I'll have to give it a read. I'm a huge fan of journals, my favourite is Sagiro's Story Hour over on Enworld.
I wish I had invested in APs earlier on because sometimes trying to run a campaign with no clear direction or over arching plot is really hard to do (especially when you have to balance work/family/life). We definitely be doing that from now on.

Well I have been running a campaign for about 18 months now and fortunately I built up where I wanted to go and an army of NPC's hooks, story arc's, and historical timelines (that the players only get hints of) and whilst it os going really well and has stayed 'on topic' the whole time, is certainly very time consuming.
I hate it when campaign seems to mean 'dungeon after dungeon with no big picture' :p
After this though I will be running AP's for a while I think... I want my free time back :)

Hi, everyone. This thread is very interesting to me as I've just moved to Chatswood from the Blue Mountains ;)
I don't have a huge amount of free time at the moment, but I'm hoping to get some space for gaming again over the next few months. I've been a gamer since 1980 and my main interests these days are Pathfinder and the various retroclones.
I'm interested in running a new campaign in the near future, so if anybody in the local area would be interested, please let me know. I tend to prefer sandbox-style games over tightly plotted ones. In addition, my tastes run towards old-school sword and sorcery rather than high fantasy.

Hey Prime, alas at the moment it looks like I may have too many players. There are 5 of us regulars and 2 once a month players plus we're about to see how The Big L goes which totals 1 DM and up to 7 players.Of course if your after some players in the near future you could probably grab a couple of us from here.

No problems...I'm actually busy settling into the new place and a new job, so it'll be a month or two before I'm free.
