It seems evident from the number of daily mentions of them that we need a apace to discuss the awesomeness that is Joss Whedon, Alton Brown, and Tim Burton. If you can spare a moment, please share with the other Paizonians how these three titans among men have made your life More Awesome. :)

They each, independently, rescued me from sinister looking fellows in top hats with monocles on separate occasions. They each thought I was Chilly-Willy though, and left me there, but that's okay with me. :P

I'm thinking how awesome a Batman movie written by Whedon, directed by Burton, and starring Brown as the Riddler, would be.

What It would be is not even close to what you are thinking.

Lets begin with the introduction of Harlequin:

The Opening Scene
Darin Blackwey watched the little children playing from the shadow of the alley, His Cigarette little more that a short stub.
The wire Garrotte dropped around his neck and quickly tightened - lifting him from the gritty stone beneath his feet. Blackwey could only flail in the edge of a shadow as he was strangled to death.
The Batman had come for him at last. There would be no escape from his brand of Justice. Blackwey turned slowly with every twitch of his body as it jangled on the wire. He could only just see the predator above him as it dropped into the alley using Blackwey as a counterweight.
Was that Perfume? A scent caught his attention as his executioner descended past him to the alley floor and tied the wire off on a pipe protruding from a wall.
A young girl, her body tight and firm with the coming flower of maturity, emerged from the alley dressed in a Blackened Harlequin Costume and waved at the other kids in their Halloween costumes who waved back.
"Animal..." was all she whispered. Blackwey could only imagine that was what she had said as he died, a Puppet left hanging by his wires.

No he didn't. That was written by Chris Elliot and Adam Resnick and directed by Adam (who's only other film of note is Death to Smoochy).

MmmmKae.

Three words describe Tim Burton: Creepy, Dark, and Weird. Everyone of his movies can also be described in this manner.

Dark Archive

No clue about Alton Brown, but Whedon and Burton have made my life worth living.

Alton Brown....no clue.

Whedon: I like his TV work over his movies in general...

Tim Burton....must be stopped. He should be slapped upside the head and told his movies are terrible. I mean wtf was he thinking when he made the Planet of the Apes?

Alton Brown: Good Eats. 'nuff said.

Joss Whedon: The leaf on the wind was pierced by fate.

Tim Burton: I have a love/hate relationship with the man. He once said that he wouldn't know a good script if it jumped up and bit him in the face. He's right. His visuals are always amazing, but his stories...

What I'd really, really like is an end to the bromance between him and Johnny Depp. That way the stories don't revolve around Depp's characters, even though they're someone else's stories (i.e. Alice in Wonderland, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.)

Sometimes I think the only reason Burton makes movies is so that Helena Bonham Carter can have a career. :/

Whedon, on the other hand, I have much praise for, despite some definite blemishes on his record - his TV shows had a tendency to go kitchen-sink once he realized he was on the verge of cancellation, especially Buffy and Angel. I sort of felt the same way about the Serenity flick, though it measures up better to Firefly than, say, Season 7 of Buffy did to... well, the rest of the series. (And let's not talk about Dawn and Connor. *cringe*)

He's also one of the few TV creators who managed to do some really campy stuff with his franchises and not royally piss off his fans. Whedon has turned his leading man into a muppet, made an episode of a dialogue-driven show where none of the characters spoke a single word, AND done an offbeat musical episode of the same show... and his fans ate it up, myself included.

Power Word Unzip wrote:

I'd believe that if she hasn't had a career outside of his films, but even while she's been dating him she's only done six films with him (and Planet of the Apes was where they first met) and still been doing others, like the Potter series. Since she's had no trouble getting work since starting her career back in the mid 80s, I think its safe to say Burton isn't her only meal ticket.

You're a wee little puppet man! I never really got into Angel much at all, but I had to tune in when Spike joined the cast of characters.

Bah! Oingo Boingo was already starting to suck by their third album.

EDIT: Second album.

I find Tim Burton somewhat hit and miss. I really like Sleepy Hollow, though.

I have no idea who this Brown guy is.

And I'm always surprised when a fellow geek dislikes Whedon.

I'm with the puffin on this one.

I too share a general dislike of Whedon. Didn't like his comic run of the X-men, HATED Buffy. I did, however, thoroughly enjoy Dr. Horrible's Sing-along Blog.

Sorry Freehold, The Box has been upgraded with a very cool Fine Mist Recovery System.

taig wrote:

Yeah, no biggie. I just had this moment where I thought, do I remember having any music conversations with Taig? And memory accessed nothing in particular, so I thought, well, heck maybe he does have strong music feelings I don't know about. I should have known. Now it will turn out that SP knew you were being sarcastic so he was also being sarcastic in the opposite way, so it will be a double whammy on me. Sorry, people, but I get to keep Oingo Boingo at least to Weird Science. But then I'm probably done. No Boi-Ngo.

EDIT: Oh, and since I forgot this was a CIVIL thread:

I do like Oingo Boingo. They're one of the few bands I've seen in concert (yep, I'm old).

I also like Danny Elfman's scores for the most part. He hit a period where everything was kind of samey, but it seems he's moved beyond that.

Brown - Who ?

Burton - He was OK a few decades ago, when he was relatively new. However, since then he's revealed himself to pretty much be a one-note wonder. I wish either he or Johnny Depp would disappear, since then both of their mutually dependent careers would vanish. At this point, the best way he could impress me is to make a film that doesn't blatantly have "Tim Burton Made This" pulsing with neon lights all over it.

Whedon - I generally like him, although some of his stuff is overrated. Buffy and Angel both suffered from prolonged bouts of TABS (Teen Angst Bulls#!t). And Buffy never should have been brought back after it ended in it's 5th season. However, Dollhouse was very good, Astonishing X-Men was the best damn X-Men story in years (helped out by the fact that it wasn't drowning in extraneous characters or the need for extensive background knowledge of X-Men history...two problems that have plagued most X-Men stories over the past couple of decades or so), and Firefly/Serenity was amazing. Oh, and Dr. Horrible was awesome as well.

Shadow Lodge Contributor, RPG Superstar 2010 Top 8

I don't think Johnny Depp is quite as dependent upon Tim Burton as you seem to think. He's been in plenty of other peoples' movies lately--those Pirates of the Caribbean flicks, Public Enemies, The Tourist, and most recently the animated feature Rango. He's not prolific like some actors, but he gets steady work.
