While the BBC haven't officially announced UK air dates yet, BBC America has announced that Series 6 will begin airing in the US on Saturday, April 23. (It's anticipated that the UK air date will be that same day, and Australia and Canada have indicated that they'll be close to that—if not the same—as well.)
This season will have 13 episodes as usual, but this year it will be airing in two blocks: 7 episodes in the spring and 6 in the fall.

I wish it wasnt a rediculous increase to my cable bill to get a package wiht BBC:America for this and the only Top Gear worth watching.
Really? Who are you getting Cable through? This is part of Basic for me.

There's some other good stuff on BBC America:
• Gordon Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares (LOTS of British eps of this never shown in US)
• Being Human (a decent show about a werewolf, vampire, and ghost who share a flat)
• Star Trek: The Next Generation re-runs (???. but I admit I've watched several)
Ok, so you'd think there would be more worthwhile on that channel, but at least it's not a total wasteland. Plus, at least here, the same package that gets you BBC America also unlocks some other interesting channels like (especially) IFC (which is getting great) and Logo and stuff.

I know I'm going to burn for this, but I'm growing to like 'our' Being human better. (plus the episode titles make me laugh)

While I won't say it is better, it is suprising to me how good it actually has been. After watching the BBC version I was prepared to be underwhelmed, but I have really enjoyed it.

I watched both, the US version seemed like a re-run of the UK version, same story and plot, so I'm only watching the UK version now.
See, what I find interesting, from a comparison, PoV, is that Sally, Aidan and Josh seem to be different, but when we see a supporting character they both share, they seem to be the same as their BBC counterparts.
Josh's family is a new twist. It makes me wonder if Nina/Nora is going to become a werewolf, or if they're going to eventually make Emily a vampire or werewolf.
Edit: Oh and Meaghan Rath is hotter than Lenora Crichlow, sorry.

Thats one of things I like about the UK producers better than the US producers. The UK producers are willing to cast average looking people for lead rolls as long as they can act whereas the US producers will only cast only beautiful "Hollywood" types for any roll regardless if they can act. To me seeing everyday looking people playing everyday people makes the show more appealing.

Bingo!
That's why the UK version hooked me it was more touching me than the obviously-actor-people you so often get on US productions.

In case you haven't seen it, there's a two part mini-episode that Moffat wrote for Comic Relife/Red Nose Day that was pretty entertaining.

I think as a Brit I'd like to thank you guys for HBO and you can thank us for Dr Who.
Fair exchange I think :)

Well as you are also throwing in Clarkson, May, and the Hamster most definately. The UK Top Gear hosts have been the funniest 2&1/2 men on TV for the past 10 years.

A fair number of American shows are retreads of Brit material. I think that "All In The Family" is one as well.

Correct. All In The Family is an adaptation of Til Death Do Us Part. Both are considered classic sit coms.
A large number of British shows are optioned by American networks. Some (such as The Office) become very successful but often the network just misses the point of the show.
Good examples of this would be Red Dwarf, The Thick of It and Fawlty Towers. The first two didn't get past the pilot stage (and by the sounds of things we should all be grateful). Fawlty Towers is a different story as it was made into no less than 3 seperate series, all of which flopped badly.
It's a fine line between finding an original voice for a remake and destroying what makes it good in the first place. Most of the time it's a swing and a miss...

Anothe cable network giving HBO a run for it's money is Starz, with it's orignal series. Spartacus is just awesome, bloody in a "300" sort of way, but awesome. This Friday Starz begins it's new Camelot series, and is supposed to be aring the new series of Torchwood, sometime in the future.

Torchwood begins July 8 on Starz. (No word yet on the BBC air date.)

I haven't bothered with the American version. For some reason I just assumed it would be terrible.
I am actually liking the US version more.
At first the shows where identical, but as it goes along they become 2 separate entities.
The US version is much more darker then the BBC version.

Judging by the profile, especially the nose, that president is meant to be Nixon. I hope so, because the irony would be awesome.

I thought that too, makes the line "there are no monsters in the oval office" that bit more fun too ;)

I suppose it's probably too inside baseball for UK audiences, but I'd get a huge kick out of some kind of epilogue where Nixon waggles his jowls at someone that looks like David Frost and tells him: "If the president's being it, that means it's not a monster."

ABC Australia will begin airing Series 6 on April 30, one week after the UK, US, and Canadian broadcasts. (Since same-day airing would mean they'd have to air it *before* the UK, given their time zones, they instead chose to wait a week so that it could still be a Saturday evening broadcast.)
Also, just a reminder—when we get to discussing new episodes, make sure you use Spoiler tags where appropriate!

Information about the first couple of episodes released on the BBC website on the 5th April seem to confirm that that was/is president Nixon in the Oval Office:
...Placing his life entirely in their hands, the Doctor agrees to search for the recipient of the fourth envelope - just who is Canton Everett Delaware the Third? And what is the relevance of their only other clue: 'Space 1969'? Their quest lands them - quite literally - in the Oval Office, where they are enlisted by President Nixon himself to assist enigmatic former-FBI agent Canton, in saving a terrified little girl from a mysterious spaceman...

I just got back from a preview screening of the first two episodes here in NYC. Had to wait 12 hours on line, got a bad sunburn, and it was worth every minute and future scrap of peeling skin. (and 12 hours was nothing; I was over 400 places back in line. The people up front had been there a full day!)
Not going to spoil anything here, but do want to say that I'm feeling a LOT more optimistic about this season than I was last year after watching the first couple episodes. Admittedly, my enthusiasm is probably running high because seeing it on a big screen in a theater with 700 other fans definitely makes for a more intense viewing experience (yes, we all sang along to the theme music) but the writing and characterization feels much more tighter and settled in. REALLY looking forward to the rest of the season.

It's a ten-episode storyline with the blanket title "Torchwood: Miracle Day" (though each episode will also have an individual title).
There's still no official date for the BBC airing, but it's expected that both the BBC and Australia's UKTV will air episodes within a couple of days of the US debut.

Canada's SPACE network is officially onboard for Torchwood: Miracle Day; they haven't said anything more specific than "summer."

** spoiler omitted **Hey, I told you it was basic... :)
An average of 70,000 people die each day so if it takes a week to figure it out Torchwood has to find a way of killing half a million people.
10,000 in south america
20,000 in north america
15,000 in asia
10,000 in europe
15,000 in africa
Most of those deaths are from dieases
about 5% from murder
about 20% from cancer
about 5% from fires
about 30% from heart dieases
about 20% from suicide
about 10% from cancer
about 10% from Malaria/Hiv/Aids/infections/Fever

Re Impossible Astronaut
Well that was a very different first episode of the season. Mostly, the first episodes have always been fairly run of the mill but this one definitely goes in a different direction, that and being a two parter. Kudos to Moffat et al for kicking things off in style. Looking forward to part 2.
Also liked the fact they shot it in the US this time (unlike Daleks in Manhattan). The Doctor meeting Richard Nixon? Can't say I ever expected that.
So one question
