Has it occurred to you that because guns are inherently ranged weapons that the small table listing firearms, in the grander scheme of things, will be placed onto the main weapons table under Ranged along with the other exotic ranged weapons?

Has it occurred to me that they may place the one-handed and two-handed categories under the ranged category on the new table? I certainly hope not! That would cause even more confusion!

Additionally, many exotic weapons have rules explaining how they are different, example Spiked Chain, a reach weapon that can strike adjacent, the aforementioned hand crossbow, nets, saps, lassos and boomerangs.

This is true of nearly all weapons, and is generally done in their individual description (except for common abilities like reach, trip, and disarm).

Furthermore, as has been mentioned already, firearms have some functionality that applies to them if they are wielded in one hand or two (primarily reloading).

As do crossbows. Why not keep the same format as crossbows?

If memory serves the old 3.x weapon tables had bows listed as a two handed ranged weapon, although I am unsure of this fact

I checked again after reading your post. Nope. They are listed as ranged only on the table. It's not until you read the text description under the bow heading that you find out that you need two hands to fire and load them.

Yeah, still not seeing the problem. But I guess that's me.

The thing is, this isn't a MAJOR issue really. It's just an UNNECESSARY issue - it would be very easy for them to fix it. It's a little confusing, it opens up a bit to loopholes, nothing huge, but it's very easy to fix - and I don't think it's good for the devs to have "different for different's sake" as a goal. I like guns being different, but they should be different in ways that make sense at least on some level. I'm not against the misfires, the "targets touch attack ac" and so on - these actually feel different in the game. That can't be said for this, which seems to only be a bureocratical change that can confuse and open up to issues.

In the case of handedness and so on, it is my opinion that they should work exactly as crossbows. They feel different already, we don't need to force more change on them unnecessarily.

Agree 100% with this. There have already been a few quirky "they could have worked like X but don't" rules sneaking into Pathfinder, and none of them are major, or game breaking . . . but eventually when you have a lot of "not major," it starts feeling like a bigger problem on the whole than any one component.
