There is a reasonably big but in it though - Sky news will be seperated off as a new company, so at least we shouldn't get a Fox News Clone.

Oh I don't know about that, I suspect it won't be long until we see a new late night show called The voice of London.
Unfortunately, I think enlightened Bystander may be being a little hopeful. Murdock still appoints the directors of the new little news company(I wonder which of the Murdock brats it will be?) and he made promises not to interfere with editorial decisions when he bought the times...and we all know how that turned out.

It's good to know that I'm not alone in regarding Rupert Murdoch as one of the worst things to happen to the UK during my lifetime.
His son's attacks on the BBC are pretty much the most offenxive pieces of self-serving hypocrisy in history. He appears to regard incredible wealth as entirely secondary to viciously undermining civil society.
