Am I disqualified from RPG Superstar 2012?

RPG Superstar™ 2011 General Discussion

Oh yay. I can talk without any worry of breaking rules.

Hi guys. I'm Art Nemati's wife, and I'm also a big fan of Pathfinder. I want to participate in RPG Superstar. I didn't make it this year, but was happy to watch Art's development in the contest.

I understand that he can no longer participate in RPG Superstar because he made it to the Top 8. Does my relationship to him also disqualify me? For what it's worth, I don't plan on asking him for advice or anything when I start next year since I want to make it on my own.

Any official word on this would be wonderful. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

I would say that because Art is not a full-time employee of Paizo, that your relationship with him would not exclude you for 2012. Of course only Paizo reps can answer that 100%.

Additionally, I wanted to say, I wouldn't stop asking him for advice just because he made it. I'd suggest at least having him read over your ideas and give you editing advice.

(emphasis mine)

I actually acted as his editor for this year. I appreciate the advice, though. I just don't want to trudge through RPG Superstar 2012 with folks thinking it's Art wearing a bra and trying for a second year.

Oh, don't worry about that we already think of him that way. LOL, sorry couldn't resist.

Is this something he's likely to do? ;)

Pics or it never happened.

1. The contest is open to the general public, with the following exceptions: Employees of Paizo Publishing, their immediate family members, and persons with whom such employees are domiciled are ineligible. Anyone who has been employed full-time as a designer for a game company is ineligible. Anyone with a cover credit on a hardcover RPG book is ineligible. Designers who have cover credits on print editions of Paizo's Pathfinder or GameMastery products are ineligible. The top 8 finalists of all previous RPG Superstar contests are ineligible. Contestants must provide their real names on their paizo.com account. Legal identification must be produced on request.

-We're contestants, not employees (except maybe the top 4?) so having a relation with one of us doesn't count against you.

-It sounds like you are not employed by another game company
-I don't think you have a hardcover credit
-No pathfinder products
-Not a previous contestant
-They could always require you provide legal proof you are not "Art in a bra."

Just from the Official Rules standpoint it looks like you are in the clear.

And just to provide precedent on top of Cody's rule citations, Trevor Gulliver's son has continued to submit without any issues even after his dad was a top 8 contestant back in '09, so you're completely in the clear. :-)

If you think you're an employee, I expect expect you to bring coffee in on your first day. With two sugars and soy milk.

Spoiler:
Freelancers are a valued part of Paizo's operation, but aren't expressly employees. That would require you to actually work here full or part time, not on a contract basis.

I thought all those great Paizo ideas came from the whiskey in the coffee.

Sure, but it's not like you can publicly say "Hey, bring me a coffee, heavy on the whiskey."

Clearly out on the West Coast it's 'soy milk.'

Definitely DO ask him for advice/opinions on your entry next year! Remember, now that he can't enter, he can't steal all your good ideas for himself ;)

Nothing about Art's participation in RPG Superstar disqualifies you from participating.

I'm really glad I found this thread. It answered the same questions I had. Now that I know I can give this great challenge a go I can't wait. I hope I can do my brother proud next year. Thanks to all of you at Piazo for being such cool dudes and dudettes.

Well, there's an image that's going to be stuck in all of our heads now.

Glad I found this thread, it cleared somethings up for me :)
