Miniatures I'm looking for

Miniatures

Liberty's Edge

Sorry if this is the wrong place for a thread like this - I didn't see any likely forums.

I'm looking for a few different minis, and I'm having trouble finding them.

I'm looking for:

* A medium size female (not dwarf) with a two-handed axe. I've got males with greatswords, greataxes, and greatclubs; I've got females with greatswords (no greatclubs/hammers, but several holding staves mid-swing). I've got a female dwarf with a greataxe. But no generic humanoid female with a big axe. Been looking for this one on and off for years.

* Crossbow wielders, male and female. I've got plenty (too many) minis with bows and spellcaster minis with staves, but the only crossbow mini is a guy in full plate. Which is nice to have, definitely not complaining. But variety would be nice.

* Gunslingers, male and female. I've got a male crouching with a heavy sniper rifle, and a female with a single small pistol (and box under her arm); both were originally for Star Wars, but they work just fine. More would be nice, though; a two-pistol mini, a rapier-and-pistol mini, etc. Also, see below.
EDIT: I just finished doing a complete sweep of all the minis on this site, and I found this wonderful goblin - exactly what I'm looking for, only in non-monster form (buying anyway, of course). I need a non-monster small guy and 2-3 medium size ones (more does not hurt). There was also a half-orc pirate with a rapier and pistol, but "unavailable".

* Mildly-Steampunk minis. Just a few. Trenchcoats, bowler hats, large hats that aren't witch hats, mild gear iconography, firearms. Also, a couple warforged/gearmen style minis. Nothing too overt or over-the-top; it's still pathfinder.

Anyone have any suggestions? Any searchable indexes online, ones that aren't just "browse our 10,000 images!"?

While a little pricy, I'd look at Games Workshop for fantasy gunslingers, Their Empire (and Dwarf) fantasy armies both use firearms. The Mordhiem game they produce also has a number of figs that would work.

I know there are a lot of other options out there, but these are the ones I'm familiar with from years of wargaming. Hope that helps

You might check out reaper's figures.

Ugh. Not warhammer, please. Their mini's are 50% more than they have any right to be, because they are also "collectible miniature game pieces". Plus, they tend to come in more components than they should, with way more parts than they need, and their detail is over-the-top.

Not to say there's anything wrong with the warhammer minis - they work really well for their intended purpose, which is to be super-unique, super-flexible, and super-iconic, so the opposing player can look at the 50-100 guys you've got fielded on the table and more-or-less identify everything at a glance.

They just aren't all that hot for tabletop RPGs, at least in my experience. Although, I do have about 30 warhammer elven cone-head archers (base coat only, bought at heavy discount) that make very nice "here's a bunch of generic monster" minis. I should go to the FLGS that focuses on wargaming and re-browse their discount bin.

I am not familiar with Mordhiem; I will look into that. If it's not a Collectible Miniatures game, the prices should be reasonable.

D&D Miniatures Database has tags you can browse or search

Vesivus Miniatures Listings has some general categories to browse (gender, faction, type, etc.)
Troll and Toad has lots of singles, if you can't get the ones you want from Paizo.

This is the *best tool ever* for trying to find just the right mini...

Figure Finder

The problem with tabletop gaming is there aren't any reasonably priced miniatures.

I mean, really. Look at Reaper: "Here, I'll sell you this two inch figure for $4. Some assembly and painting required."

You'd be better off buying a bulk set of LEGO person figures.

Liberty's Edge

Pres Man, Grick, Marshall... wow. alright.

I honestly haven't been able to go through all of that, but clearly there's a great deal I missed. My search-fu needs more practice. Thank you very much, I'm sure what I'm looking for is in there.

Unless you are looking for an elven curve blade wielding elf (male or female) apparently no elves use 2-handers according to mini manufacturers. Well OOP wardancers do...

\snark off

Honestly, this is why I prefer GW minis. I can grab a bunch of "bits" to make something like what I am looking for. Everybody who makes an army has spare "bits" a lot of FLGS will have a bits bin. I wish mini companies would start producing a 3-4 pack of generic racial types with adaptable arm and weapon options i do, of course, realize there is a bunch of added expense to constructing minis in that fashon its part of why GW is so expensive.

I use Reaper (or other metal miniatures) for PCs and Critical NPCs, but then I actively enjoy assembling, converting, and painting miniatures.

I'm lucky that I played a LOT of Warhammer Fantasy and Lord of the Rings games in my time, so I have tons of plastic elves, dwarves, humans, goblins, orcs, etc. Lord of the Rings minis feel a little small compared to today's Heroic Scale, and Warhammer minis are a little big, but for bulk bad guys, it is a reasonable way to go.

If you want to play with miniatures that actually represent your foes, then yeah, it's expensive. If you don't want to deal with the money aspect, then there's lots of papercraft out there. Alternately, you can just print your own tokens. Buy a ton of 1" and 2" bases (or cast them yourself from something like a Hirst Arts mold), print an appropriate image on cardstock, glue it to the base, and presto- instant token.

Basically, to get a 'nice looking' battle mat, there's several options you can take. From the set of 'Cheap', 'High Quality', and 'Three Dimensional', you generally are stuck with 'pick any two' at best.

You didn't look very hard.

Admittedly, I could only find one with a cursory search.

EDIT: found some more

Female elf with Elven Curve Blade
Set with three elves (one female, two male) all with Elven Curve Blades
Overdone male elf with an 'evil' look and arguably a curve blade.
Male elf with Elven Curve Blade sheathed on his back

Here is a pack of 9.

I know I purchased the figures shown in a 3-pack (these are some of my favorite [half]-elf minis), but I can't seem to find that option on their site. Maybe they decided doing 3 packs wasn't cost effective and went to 9 packs.

But he did. I searched for Any Elf with a sword, scrolled down until I saw one with a two handed sword. Cursory glance. Actually clicking on things produced the links I found in my edit, above.

Dark Archive

There are some very nice gun wielding miniatures in Privateer's Iron Kingdoms line.

A reset of my cookies and there the 9 pack was that pres man linked, that incldes him. My Bad all, and thanks now I have a mini for the game starting this weekend

Speaking of Looking for Minis, has anyone ever seen a male dual-wielding kukris? Or at least small blades of some kind?

Deadbeat Doom wrote:

Very Acrobatic, wielding two wavy daggers

Assassin with daggers

Leaping with dual daggers

Elf with dual daggers

Ranger with Kukri and Scimitar (if you are comfortable doing a weapon mod, that might be a good base mini)

Male wielding two kukris... but might not be exactly what you're looking for

The last two were the only ones I've seen; and Yuan-Ti, while cool, are not what I'm looking for. I'm thinking that modding is the way to go.

Thanks for looking though.

While it's not as easy with any kind of wargame based army--because wargame boxsets are more likely to come with extra pieces--you can purchase Reaper "bits" and they have special packs of weapons, familiars, gear, and other things you can use for conversions.

The bits are available through the part of their Online Store known as The Boneyard. The bits for any given model are also displayed at the bottom of the model's preview page. For example, for this model, you can scroll down and see that you can purchase the witch, the cauldron, and the cat separately.

The "part packs" include, but a very much but not limited to...
Cyborg Parts Pack (upcoming)
Creature Components
Heads
Weapons
More Weapons
Still More weapons (and way more even than these)
Familiars
More familiars (note this is to familiar pack 9 and that doesn't include the Warlord familiar packs)

And note for a number of these, you can order "boneyard" pieces of these packs, say if you just wanted the swords sprue or the cat or whatever.

Some models--certainly the minority, to be fair, but they do exist--also come with multiple choices for arms/heads/weapons. My favorite example is Jack Harrison who comes with 3 heads and 3 arms with different weapons.

But if conversion is your thing, suffice to say Reaper can and does provide the goods to do conversion. Absolutely GW bits are also valuable and good, but they're not the only company that provides that service. Absolutely it's a little easier to build a bits box with GW things--but only if you're playing Warhammer or 40K and assembling an army to begin with (hence lots of leftover pieces). If you're doing fantasy minis only for RP needs, one or a few models at a time, you're no better off with any one company.

And while I am at it, I was going to suggest to the OP --- if he has very specific needs for minis, he may well consider the wild and wonderful world of conversion if he has the time and the money to do it.

For example: think this lovely lady would look better with an axe in her hand?

Get an axe from an accommodating weapons pack.

Clip or saw off the sword off the lovely lady, carefully drill a hole in what was the sword hand, put a little dab of glue in the hole, and then carefully slide the axe handle through the hole. Congratulations, you have an axe wielding female figure!

This IS work and it DOES cost money for the tools and time and practice to do it well.... but for specific miniature needs, I personally find it's hard to beat.

cool

Actually, I was going to suggest the same thing. Anyone with a staff is just a snip and a stick away from having an axe.

Looking for Mounted Cavalier in a set that also contains the same mounted figure for use without the mount on a base...does this exist?

There's a range of Arthurian personality figures, on foot and mounted, from Thunderbolt. The GW Lord of the Rings range has some mounted and foot personalities - Erkenbrand and Imrahil at least might work. There's a lot of historical ranges do mounted and foot knights, with similar or identical gear, though I can't think of any which mix them in one pack. I vaguely remember a thread about this on TMP a year or two ago.

Filios wrote:

These are terribly hard to find. In my experience, if you are looking for a unique miniature, it's best to buy two copies of the 'on foot' figure you want, an appropriate mounded figure, and then do a conversion of the mounted figure.

If you aren't comfortable with a conversion of that magnitude, I'd try to hunt down the Lord of the Rings Mounted/On Foot miniatures;

Imrahil: http://www.amazon.com/Games-Workshop-Imrahil-Mounted-Blister/dp/B000CQSHWU

Erkenbrand: http://www.hobbyworld.com.ua/published/publicdata/HOBBYWOR/attachments/SC/p roducts_pictures/m1180753_99061464105_GoodErkenbrandFootMountedMain_873x627 .jpg

etc etc
