How to roleplay cackle?

Advice

Hi, I quite like the witch, however I fail to figure out how to make a male witch that doesn't look very weird, this is mostly because of cackle. The ability is so good, I really don't want to let it go for RP reasons.

Has anyone a good idea for a substitute for cackle? For example "spell some magic words" instead, however that is a bit weird too.

Also some stylistic advice on a male witch is greatly appreciated.

How about this!

And cackle is mad laughter so that can be by either male or female, no reason to make it sound female in order to have it work....

Also there has been debate if cackle even makes a noise per RAW but that is a whole other can of worms......

yeah, I tought about that and a shaggy looking wizard always darkly making "muahahahaha" came to mind.
It just sounds stupid to do that more or less all the time during fights.

I was looking for a something that gets the same rules but just is done differently.

Also thanks for the thing with noise per RAW. I don't really want to make this a rules thread, but any subsitute that doesn't need noise is fine too.

Seriously? A guy who just stands in the middle of a warzone, laughing at the top of his lungs like a madman, while the people around him fall to their knees clawing at their throats or staring in horror at the bursting sores breaking out over their skin, is "stupid"?

What kind of game are you playing that makes that image "stupid"?

You don't have to actually RP it every round, going "I look at him with hate, use evil eye, and then I MWAHAHAHAHA". That, I agree is stupid. All role-playing has limits so it doesn't get aggravating for the players. (Raging barbarians, intimate encounters, and torture sequences all come to mind as "I cast Roleplayis Handwaveium")

But really, describing your witch, regardless of appearance, as just standing in the middle of combat, 100% not giving a damn about anything as he lays about with spells and hexes, cracking up at some cosmic joke only he gets? That is pure gold.

Now, the natural distaster hex, thats harder. No way to get around the silly song and dance of that one. Do what my player does, get a cauldron of flying and cast from high enough up nobody can see you.

when one thinks of the word "cackle" one thinks crazed laughter.

heres some definitions of cackle:

To utter in cackles: cackled a sarcastic reply.

n.
The act or sound of cackling.
Shrill laughter.
Foolish chatter

so there is the foolish chatter option.

which brings to mind the witch from kevin costners version of robin hood, she had mad laughter , but also incomprehensible muttering as well.

We had a male dwarf witch who loved to just mutter ramblings as his cackle.
Could be a mystic chant too, like in an Australian bushman or Indian witch doctor kind of way.

Then another idea I have is how about boasting in an intimidating way, just by calling out and saying something like "you do you like that?" or "can you feel your life draining from you with my curse? it will soon be your end!"
Or "wait til I get your little dog toto too!"

In Conan, the china man called himself a 'wizard' but witch fits him better, he did alot of muttering (sounded like he was trying to pass a kidney stone if you ask me).

But if none of that works for you, he could just be "using his action" as per raw.

I like these ideas, particularly if the chanting is ritualistic or whatnot. Very cool.

I had an idea for a Lamashtan witch whose 'cackle' sounded like the creepy high-pitched 'laughter' of a hyena.

My wife plays a Witch in my Kingmaker campaign - she's also the Queen of their kingdom.

Abagail is a short, cherubic, blond woman - and her "cackle" is more of a "titter".

It's the creepy, nervous giggle you hear, right before you die...
