My parents were really screwed up when it came to money. So much so that they tracked every single penny they spent on every child. Presents. Birthdays. College tuition. Wedding presents. Everything.
And when either of them died, you'd get your inheritance, minus everything they'd ever spent on you. Plus, once they had grandkids, they had the will altered so the estate would be divided up among all kids and grandkids, turning it into a 7-way split in which my childless younger brother would be screwed over royally, and I would owe the estate $10,000 based on the money they'd given me for grad school. Apparently going to college merits punishment, or some such. (Well, technically an 8-way split, as my mother kept her half, and my father's half was to be divided among all the kids and grandkids.)
So, the four major players (my mother, two brothers, and I) agreed to split the estate three ways instead of 7 (my mother kept her half), overriding the will.
So this leads to the legal danger: Once the kids turn 18, if they do not feel we managed their money properly, they can sue us to redistribute the funds, plus any financial penalties for mismanagement of the money.
So basically, either my kids or my nephews can say, "Hey, Uncle NobodysHome didn't wring every last penny out of that house that *we* should have owned! Let's take him to the cleaners!"
Unlikely, but families have been known to have exactly such lawsuits, so yep. I could get hit...
EDIT 2: What's REALLY screwed up is that my mother finally convinced my father to alter the will so it was only the kids, and they sent the request to the lawyer, but it never made it into the "official" copy of the will, so it didn't count for diddly unless all the vested parties (or their legal guardians) bought in.
EDIT: Ninja'ed by a devil? Demon? Whatever. Some entity that doesn't bother with clothes anyway. Feh.

Wow Holy cow! can you just like disown them or something like that? That is the most insane thing I've heard in awhile. I can't believe it. is it even legal to charge your children for raising them? I think I would refuse all help from them on principle, but I'm not you and I wish you luck on that insane situation.

I hate Magic: The Gathering so much, it sucks anything that might be slightly similar into it's blackhole of hate.

Much like Freehold's unreasoning hatred of all things Whedon, Brown, and so on; CY has one of all things card-related. It's part of the local FaWtL charm and/or humor, especially when contrasted to others who highly enjoy said things around here. :)

I played M:tG for quite a time until I stopped playing for economic reasons.
I was a fairly good player who used to be on the top 8 on most tournaments (not international or national tournaments, of course, I wasn't so serious. I never won anything because I never realize when I'm being cheated and I am really gullible and trusting.
Dalindra played for much longer than I (he got me into it) and won about 90% of the tournaments he was in. He stopped playing at the same time as I did. But he was awesome at it. He's always been a damned genius tactician.
We also created a homebrew Pathfinder setting based on Mt:G's Ravnica, as we thought it was a very interesting setting to develope.

He's a Marvel... writ... write...
He's the guy who destroys any character that gets into his hands, without caring about the character's previous personality or background. He is supposed to create meaningful stories, but they are all sooooo bland and inconsistent.
Twilight is pretty awful too.

I tried to watch Twilight at TV once to know if it was so bad as it seemed. It was pretty romantic. I mean, it was so bad that Dalindra and I stopped paying attention to it and got into more interesting things ;-D
I've also picked the book and read random passages. It's awfully written. Same with 50 shades. Garbage. I don't expect everything to be a masterpiece, but I demand that at least it doesn't kill brain cells. Twilight does.

I just realized I can't list these in any particular order -- my poor, sensitive outrages are so grievously violated by the others that I can only rage at them all . . . . It is a pleasant sort of conflict. Heartwarming. or is that heartburn?

So, in a mild defense of my parents, if you look at what they did from a cold, logical viewpoint, it is indeed the best way to ensure a "fair" inheritance:
Well, you immediately see the problem! If we just divvy it up into $200k chunks, then Nobody got $500k over his lifetime, Somebody got $400k, and Anybody got $300k. That's not fair!
If we instead combine the money we gave out ($600k) plus the estate ($600k), divvy that up 3 ways ($400k each), then Nobody inherits $100k ($400k-$300k), Somebody inherits $200k ($400k-$200k), and Anybody inherits $300k ($400k-$100k), and in the end, every child received an equal amount over their lifetime.
Two problems arise:
So we were rather appalled when we found out AFTER my father had passed away.
So suppose the estate is only $150k instead of $400k. Then the total is $750k ($150k estate + $600k in expenses over the years), so each kid should get $250k.
But wait a minute! Nobody already got $300k and there isn't enough in the estate to catch up the other two! OK, Nobody, fork over $50k to the estate so we can balance things out!
And that's exactly what happened with my father's estate: It was too small to cover all the child-raising expenses over the years, so according to the will I owed my younger brother $10k.
Not a good way to handle things.

I enjoy M:TG. I've been playing off and on since the days of Ice Age and 4th Edition (not to be confused *with the MMORPG-derived version of D&D), but only in the last 9 years or so have I found the best of all formats: EDH (somewhat noxiously "rebranded" by WotC as "Commander", cue eye roll)!
I, too, did some world-building and mechanical design inspired by Ravnica for Pathfinder (and even some for D&D4E) -- purely homebrew, of course.

Ravnica is a great and very different setting, as well as a really inspiring world. I loved all the guild concept and the mega-city world.

I got kicked out of the house that was legally a shared inheritance after taking care of my grandparents (the owners of the house) for many years while my uncles and aunts did mostly nothing.
So I don't want to have to know about inheritances again in my whole life.
My grandmother always said as a joke: «I'm going to spend everything I have before dying so I'll give you the best gift: not having to argue about my inheritance»
She was wise.

Is it time for the Five Minute Hate?
Goodie goodie.
Most of mine are Not Safe for FaWtL. Of those that are (and 'hate' might be putting it a bit strongly):
* Katanas
* Eggs, in their boiled or scrambled or poached forms.
* Huge and ridiculous spikey weapons in artwork
* Cucumbers
* Krutty flavourless beer, especially when they try to make up for the lack of flavour in the drink itself by trying to make it taste of rum or lemonade or tequila or something.
* The bands U2, Simple Minds, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Coldplay and Kings of Leon.
None of this means that people who do like those things are awful specimens of humanity who should not be permitted to breed/breathe, of course. Stating the obvious, maybe, but given how conversations on the Internet often develop....
It's a worthy thing to note, Limey! Internet is definitely tone-deaf, and it's not always the fault of either writer or reader!
Anyway, TDiaPT! was lots of fun! E13 felt like it ended the series at a slightly "off"-beat, though: it was a good episode, and I appreciated the way it wrapped things up, but it just didn't segue as cleanly as I would've liked, somehow - like the timing was off a bit. I can't put my finger on how, exactly, though.
And man: those dubs were terrific! Sometimes much weaker than the subs (Suzie's* line about "correcting his doctrine" being turned to just "I will kill him" was a tad uninspired, for example), but in many cases the humor was strikingly better and communication more clear. I appreciated having both, a great deal!
I don't think they did enough to flesh out the Isla - I suspect this is strictly a matter of time, but I was left with the striking impression that some things are ill-explained that would be better served with knowledge of the home realm.
That said, it's clear that something about the relationship between the Church and its angels is fundamentally flawed. Sariel's casual dismissal of <spoiler> near the end means that the Church doesn't really work for what they think they do. These kinds of lingering questions are great for a sequel, but also leaves it feeling a bit rushed.
As for who is good and who is evil... I can't really say that the devil et. al. are good guys, now. Not really. Sao may well be, but I felt that the "bad" guys made a compelling point: he is immortal and his actions in this short term in no way "make up" for his past, and could well be a long-term set-up.
While a big believer in the redemption of others, I find this a salient argument, especially in the light of both his past and his explicitly stated present. We're I even a hair more cynical, I'd probably be deeply convinced that Maou just liked "these" guys, in particular, and there was nothing keeping him to not fulfilling his word, at an unspecified "later" - though, of course, given his current state, it is difficult to say what, precisely, is the reasonable and moral response. The villains, of course, are definitively evil for their own deals a, not really related to trying to kill the devil.
