So. Very. Ready. For. Kingmaker.

EDIT: ack! Puts leather kilt and stay helm from episode 1 back on.

Playing or DMing?

Not that ready!

Re-clothes.

Playing.

We've been stalled at episode five for years...

Bringing it back or starting anew?

I love both playing and DMing Kingmaker, but sadly, my players don't like playing the tabletop equivalent of Civ half the session, unlike me.

So, my kids' game is getting a wee bit out of hand.

Serpent's Skull Spoilers:

We already have an aboleth and a mind-controlling raksasha running around. Since they neglected to deal with the succubus in book 2, she's hitched a ride with the incoming caravan... whose leader happens to be... taken over by an intellect devourer!

If you include the Muse, that is FIVE active mind-controlling NPCs running amok in the city of Saventh-Yhi.

Please, kids, do SOMETHING about some of them! Trying to map out what each of them is doing to counter the others is making my head spin!

Wow. The next few games are going to be... interesting. Especially if anyone as a bad Will save.

EVERYONE has a bad Will save.

C'mon, it's kids.

Step 1: allow my bard into your game.
Step 2: she affects them with dominate monster (it's continuous in a widened radius around her, and exclusively targets evil individuals); between that and her continuous magic circle against evil effects, she should be good to go
Step 3: ???
Step 4: Profit!

EDIT: typo! Funny, but clarity is important.

I guess it's time for them to learn why you never, ever dump Wisdom. Seriously, don't care if they're kids, that's a lesson that every RPG player needs to learn.

My suggestion? The first time the entire party fails a Will save against one of the mind controllers, cut to when the party has already done what the mind-controller has wanted them to do. Scariest thing imaginable, when it's a day later, you're surrounding by dead bodies, the paladin needs an atonement, and you have no idea what happened. That's how I learned my lesson.

If you want to be gentler, use Suggestion on one of the party members and when the condition hits, just say, "Party Member A does this, and so does Party Member D." A really good jolt.

I mean, technically, one them can't be affected by that, it's true. But does it really matter by that point?

Oh, incidentally, GM, the <lady> should probably be aware that the <guy> she's traveling with isn't normal, considering her exceptionally strong <insight into people>, and her failures at "persuasion" with him. But I wonder... what if he does allow her charms (figurative) affect him, and get some "alone" time with her. I'd imagine he'd really start digging her, you know? I could see him working to get them together - if you know what I mean. Nudge-nudge, wink-wink. And then a "surprise" might just be forthcoming from their time together just a little while down the road...

Spoiler:
The hilarious part is that everything I've written is literal. And it sounds much dirtier this way.

Okay.

Okay, wait.

This is the internet, right? I mean... it is, right?

Because, if so, my wife and I are both really confused as to why we can't find more fanart (if nothing else) of Satinder Morne from Kingmaker. She's Satinder-daggum-Morne! This should not be difficult! Various cropped pics of the original do not count!

And while we're on the topic: Quintessa Murray. How, Internet. How. How is it possible - even with safe search on - that I cannot find a single alternate take on either of these characters? This is low-hanging fruit! Since when can the Intenet resist?!

Literally, "here are two sexy women - in the same AP! - who are both very strong and self-empowered and damsels in distress at the same time! Nope. Not gonna art that."

HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE.

O.o

There is literally a "sexy" picture (fully clothed, but cover-girl model variant) of Kissandra - a damsel in distress whose defining physical feature is "homely-pretty" (compared to her sister)!

How is this not done for the other two?! Bwaaaaaaaahhh?!

SAFE SEARCH SHOULD NOT BE ABLE TO CONTAIN THE TIDE OF SLASHFIC ART.

>:|

Edit: why does autocorrect never work when I need it?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

And I don't even want the slashfic! My wife just wants alternate images of those two characters! How is it possible that none exists?!

EDIT: autocorrect.

EDIT: 2-4

Satinder
Tessa
Kisandra (official pic)
Kisandra (sexy fanpic, SFW, literally second option in Google Image Search)

I mean: what the heck, Internet?! Why hast it failed me?! Lame, Google Search: lllaaaaammmmeeee!

LOL. You're obviously not reading their uber-fun thread. The barbarian already got Dominated, killed the party cleric, and watched happily as the rest of the party had their levels drained. The ranger nearly killed said barbarian when HE got Dominated and started shooting him. They seem to feel that getting Dominated and killing fellow party members is... amusing...

As for TacticsLion's post, they already know what each other are; they're cooperating for now. Captain Obvious is displeased... or at least he will be, when he finds out.

Uh, really?

When I was only a bit older than them, anything that increased my resistance to mind control was good and desirable... High WP/Cool in Warhammer, resistances 1, 2, and (I think) 4 in Kryształy Czasu, Willpower and Iron Will merit in World Of Darkness... Wisdom in AD&D was desirable too.

Just one more instance of people mucking around with that which needs no mucking . . . . sigh

Fortunately, I have one of the old sets, so if I ever get around to teaching the nieces and nephews the game, they can learn it as it was first designed.

Yeah, Gav has songs for pretty much every major release, ever since his inception.

I went to see Suicide Squad last night. Here's what I think of it!

Pros!:

1. Great acting and characterization all around. Margo Robbie did an outstanding job as Harley Quinn, and Will Smith did great as Deadshot. Of course, I think RDJ would've been better as Deadshot, but RDJ would be better at everything in my opinion, he's probably starting to get sick of comic movies, and somebody with his fame wouldn't touch the hot mess that has been the majority of the DCU up to this point

2. The story was serviceable, but I view it like I view the Mass Effect story: good most of the time, amazing when it hits its peak, bad occasionally, but in the end it doesn't matter because it mainly serves as a vehicle for the characters.

3. The action sequences in the beginning were amazingly well-directed.

4. The writing was spot-on.

5. The villains, despite never actually pulling anything off major, felt like a credible threat.

6. The soundtrack was great. My favorite moment was when they started blaring Black Sabbath when they were rounding up all the villains. It helped we were watching it in the Alamo Drafthouse, and the speakers there were super loud.

7. I just feel like this needs mentioning, that despite all expectations, Jared Leto played an excellent Joker.

Cons... :(:

1. Oh, wow. The final fight scene. I can mirror NH's opinion in that that the final fight scene was horribly directed.

2. The pacing was completely broken. None of the scenes fit together quite right.

3. It felt like it was trying to be a Deadpool and Guardians of the Galaxy ripoff, at the same time. The soundtrack was great, but they were trying to push both kinds of humor into the same scene, often in the same moment, and it just felt rather disjointed.

4. The characterization was great.... except for this one moment with Amanda Waller. The people who watched the movie know what I'm talking about.

5. Jared Leto played a great Joker... it just wasn't my favorite kind. In my opinion, there are four kinds of Joker: the physical, right-up-in-your-face-about-to-horribly-maim-and-kill-you Joker; the psychological threat Joker, who is more about the threat to your mind than the threat to your body; the Batman antithesis Joker, which is exactly what it sounds like; and the Force of Nature Joker, which is more of the mortal representation of chaos and insanity than anything else. The best Jokers combine all of these in the right parts to create a satisfying, terrifying villain (the Killing Joke Joker is my favorite, I think), but this movie focused too much on the physical side.

6. Killer Croc could have been cast better, in my opinion. Dwayne Johnson would've made a great Killer Croc.

7. It was kinda obvious that Slipknot was going to die, and it lost the impact that it could've had.

8. Why the hell didn't the proto-Justice League do anything about Midway City?! I mean, first of all, the big weird storm cloud thing was pretty visible. Then, the entire population was evacuated with no reason given. That alone should've raised a few flags. Bruce probably had a few contacts in Belle Reve (love that they nodded to the comics in that way) who could've told him that the villains were being released for some mysterious reason. The writers could've given at least a token explanation for why Batman, Wonder Woman, and the Flash couldn't have come in and saved the day from the start!

Overall, I would buy the DVD, but not go see it in the theaters again unless someone was buying.

Tammy saw some trees.

So. The ability to kill a guy three times simultaneously (and turn 3/4 of their corpse into different elementals), make a simulicra, and then raise them from the dead with the axiomatic and celestial template later and a complete (Diplomacy-based) devotion to our cause instead, and doing so to thirty-two different targets each round... grants me a +6 bonus to my OM and DV on a single check v. a 100-person army. Hm. I might just prefer to fight the actual army...

* Okay, the simulicra take longer, and they aren't raised until much later, but still...

Yay! Tonight Red gets to make her level 2 debut! I know that at some point a halfling dual-wielding daggers is going to start suffering a teensy bit in the DPR Olympics, but it's a theme build.

Which is why I'm doing to destroy her even further by taking her 3rd level in rogue so that I can get Acrobatics, Bluff, and Sleight of Hand as class skills.

And yes, a level of Bard would give me to same 3 skills, PLUS some 1st-level spells and performances, so it would be *MUCH* better build-wise.

But I'm stubborn, and I'm building to a theme...

I used to make French onion soup at one restaurant I worked at, had to chop up 150 pounds of onions every week. Guess what doesn't make me cry anymore. :-)

Also, a pro tip, stick your head in the freezer if you do, the cold helps. :-)

Onions are supposed to counteract the effects of tear gas, too, but I must stress that I've never tested this personally.
