I am concerned that people will just make assault rifle/sniper rifle toting adepts/engineers or some other nonsensical overpowered class.

But I am not an mmo player so maybe I shouldn't worry.

Well, hallelujah for small favors! Open Enrollment has finally come up for NobodysWife and I, and we're getting out from under UHC's amazingly-terrible PPO to go with Blue Shield, with which we've had MUCH better luck in the past.

The whole point of a PPO is, "I'm going to be making out-of-network claims, so I'm going to pay extra to cover those."

Yet with UHC it was always:
NobodysHome: "Here's my out-of-network claim form."
UHC: "Claim denied!"
NH: "What? Why?"
UHC: "Er... you didn't fill out the claim form correctly!"
NH: "What do you mean? I've filled out like 50-100 of these things for you. I KNOW I filled it out correctly!
UHC: "Nope. You were missing... er... the treating physician's shoe size."
NobodysHome checks claim form, seeing that physician's shoe size is indeed filled in
NH: "OK, well, since we're on the phone, can I just give it to you?"
UHC: "Oh, no. You have to resubmit a corrected claim form. You have 45 days or the claim will be auto-denied."
NobodysHome sends a photocopy of the exact same claim form a second time.
UHC: "OK. We got it this time. We'll take care of it! Thanks for fixing that up for us!"

And I'm serious. I've taken to just copying the claim form and sending the exact same claim a second time. And it works every single time.

Which is pretty much proof positive that UHC's approach is just, "Deny the first claim stating that you need more information, then if people start following up pay them."

Soooooooo offensive...

Tiny T-Rex was so impressed with my "notice how one thumb is slightly smaller than the other" cautionary tale, he insists on me telling it every time I pick up a knife.

Well, $800 has come and gone. Shiro's player didn't have a video card lying around, so I actually have to purchase one (Gaaak!), the smallest SSD I could get off-the-shelf was 240 GB instead of 100 GB (only an extra $50-$60, but still), and I decided to go for the 1000 W power supply so I could just ignore all those, "Needs at least xxx watts" warnings.

So my $800 computer is going to be closer to $1200, of course.

It's like working with a contractor. Just plan on 50% over original budget and you'll be fine...

Wow! Legion is coming! :O

Not a fan. Legion was never one of my favorite characters due to his poor representation of mental health issues, and I don't think the TV show will do justice to this group of people. I think the character should have been scrapped. But I am nonsensically biased here.

To get....nobody's present? That sounds like a toss up between the gremlins never getting anywhere and forever traveling cause they're always going to nobody's place of residence or an infinite number of presents as there is no actual numerical representation of nobody and yet the acknowledgement of the existence of gifts leads to an infinite number of presents.

Did anyone else just see that? I think my brain temporarily blue screened.

Tiny T-Rex has been waking up at around six.

When the General helpfully pointed out he can sleep in he said "No, I'm just going to wake up, that's what early birds do!"

Bigelow is high quality for American bagged teas. It's one of my favorites. It's not quite as nice as some loose brands you can buy as some of the people in my thread would probably tell you, but for the convenience it's great. They have a factory in...I think South Carolina...that my wife and I plan to visit one day, as they do tours.

Hm...

I don't think that Legion was ever supposed to be an actual representation of "normal" mental health issues - he explicitly had his own thing going on where he was literally channeling every human on earth at once and trying to process that. But that was always my take.

This days I am closer to getting at 6 pm...

Though I happened to wake up some time past 6 am today. It wasn't pleasant, especially trying to get back to sleep as I went to bed around 2 or 3 am...

that was only later in the character development, iirc. He was originally a sendup of truly awful stereotypes with respect to mental health as well as potentially transgender/mpd issues. The explanation for his powers varying with personality was particularly insulting. But again, I am extremely biased.

That's probably fair. I was only introduced in the late 80's or 90's.

Okay. Need to get stuff for travelling to London in January. So far, I've accumulated:

A 3 piece luggage set with two rolling bags and a day bag (I only plan on bringing one rolling bag to the UK, the larger one)

Binoculars

2 flashlights

Metal luggage tags

Guidebooks (Lonely Planet and Not For Tourists)

Waterproof map (Lonely Planet)

4 TSA approved luggage locks

Digital camera

London Fog trenchcoat

Universal AC adapter

Collapsible umbrella

I presume to at some point acquire a wool fisherman's cap and assorted sweaters. I shall bring batteries for my camera and flashlights. I will not have a cell phone, because my phone isn't compatible with UK systems at all and I don't want to buy one that is. My tablet will be my only electronic device, most likely. I've long owned waterproof hiking boots, which I intend to be my shoes for the trip. I intend to buy a couple hundred pounds in cash in San Francisco before I leave and use my debit card for the rest (my foreign transaction fee isn't too bad). My passport should be issued any day now, my hostel bed is booked for the duration of the trip, my train tickets for my day trip to Portsmouth and my ticket for the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard are in order, and my round trip airfare is in order.

Now, what else do I need? What haven't I bought or done yet?
