I am of the belief that there has never been a cover of a song better than the original. Different interpretations, perhaps, of equal value, such as Chris Cornell's cover of Billie Jean, but...most fall unequivocally short, such as Alien Ant Farm's cover of Smooth Criminal.

Hmm...both my examples were MJ songs. But...it pretty much works that way for just about anyone.

I am of the opinion that the original writer gets major prestige for writing a song that other people want to sing, but covers frequently are better than the originals.

See:

All Along the Watchtower, Bear McCreary / Bob Dylan (Sorry Jimmy, I just call 'em as I see 'em.)
Nothing Compares 2 U, Sinead O'Connor / Prince
Me and Bobby McGee, Janis Joplin / Kris Kristofferson
Hallelujah, Rufus Wainwright / Leonard Cohen
Heaven, DJ Sammy / Bryan Adams (I know, and I don't care.)

And more I can't remember atm.

Life is good! I am tired.

EDIT: putting two boys to sleep, and hanging out for a long while (mostly) cleaning is tiring. But I'm (mostly) happy!

Good friends here, and the world keep spinning.

Peace to you all, and I'm glad you're in my life, however distant. :D

At least here.

DooD! I got Pizza Hut last night too!

And today I get to reheat it and put Sriracha on it!

OK, this cold has moved from "minor inconvenience" to "seriously annoying".

I was feeling pretty bloogey Monday-Wednesday. Wednesday night I did the "Nyquil coma" thing and on Thursday I felt MUCH improved, though the cold did move to my sinuses (rather irritating, but nothing serious). Obnoxiously, my fever stayed, meaning I have to run tonight's game remotely. (Shiro's player can't be exposed to sick people right now.)

Went to bed at 8 last night, woke up at 4:15 am feeling refreshed (sorry, I'm a morning person. What can I say?), checked my temperature... and I'm STILL running an elevated temperature (99.5 doesn't even count as a "fever", does it?)!

C'mon, you stupid cold! You've been beaten! I've WON! Yesterday I went up 4 flights of steps at a near run with Impus Major and didn't even breathe hard.

Stop with the fever already! I have 3 days of gaming with Shiro's player planned this weekend, and I will not be prevented from gaming just because of some stupid thermometer...
...grr....

It would for my Dad, possibly my brother and I as well. Dad's normal body temp is around 97.5, my brother's around 98.0, and mine is about 98.2.

So, yes, I am a bit cold-blooded.

I felt exactly the same way with the stomach virus and its lingering symptoms/mild reinfection we got - "Dangit, we already beat you! Get lost!" and, a week later, "Dagummit, virus, we just finished getting an immunity: go die in quiet itnomy!"

You have my sympathies.

Weird observation of today: Pea Bear and Tiny T-Rex find Danny Elfman arranged orchestra music relaxing and helps expand their creativity while playing with toys or anything artistic.

Lord Of The Rings orchestra music makes them sad, and unwilling to do anything.

Fascinating!

I want Ron Perlman to play Cable in Deadpool 2.

Why?

The fourth wall jokes. Dear God the Fourth Wall jokes. I can just picture DP throwing out jokes about being Conan's dad, Hellboy, or him announcing he's running for President in 2020.

I...I just want to watch another Deadpool movie. It needs to come faster.

EDIT - Oh, and let's not forget him being the narrator for Fallout.

"You know the thing about war, DP?"

"Is it that...War Never Changes? Eh? EH?"

Cable looks puzzled.

"Say it, Damn you! I've got to record my new voicemail message!"

Amusing side note to the whole "double charged" story:

  • Orbitz assured me TWICE that they'd taken care of it. After a week, I just called the hotel directly. The nice gent at the front desk helped me clear it up immediately. The refund was processed in under 48 hours. The nice gent at the front desk, whom I am inclined to believe, told me there was no indication that anyone had previously tried to process a refund. Hence, either Orbitz lied to me, or the front desk lied to Orbitz. Given the stellar behavior of everyone with whom I interacted at said hotel, I'll let you guess who I believe.
  • I ripped Orbitz a new one in their, "Please review your experience at Orbitz" e-mail. I haven't heard a peep from them.
  • Mountain Mike's, on the other hand, has gone WAY above and beyond on the whole credit card thing. I got an e-mail apology from corporate, telling me they'd spoken with the manager and he'd re-train his staff. Last night, I got a personal 10-minute call from the manager apologizing, explaining that they lose $4000-$5000 A MONTH in credit card cancellations, and hence their policy is to copy the last 4 digits from adults, not from kids. So he re-trained his staff to ONLY take the last 4 digits, and put a note on my profile that my credit card was not to be copied. It's hard to stay mad at a company that works THAT hard to keep your business. I'll be continuing to order pizzas from them. Good folk.
  • Still sick. Still prepping Scarwall. Boo! Yay!

Well, you know me... they came out with a hardcover version and I just *HAD* to buy it!

So although I'm comparing the old and new versions meticulously to look for any changes I don't care for, so far I like what they've done.
