Having lived there for 30 years, I can assure you - you are mostly right.

I'd put forth that it's more like an agriculture-themed horror movie directed by Ingmar Bergman.

My family has friends in Paris, my mom's been working Facebook all night trying to check up on them. Hopefully I'll find out more when I get home from work.

That was a mood whiplash. Public transit was totally backed up for police activity at Union Square, so I did some shopping at work for a bit until it cleared and had a nice cable car ride. They recently designated most of Powell a public transit only street, and the cable cars are running like a dream. Quieter, too. Good mood. Then I find out the police activity at Union Square is because the police were on alert as a result of 130+ people getting killed by terrorists in Paris.

I will count the boards of this pier. You will count the slits between the boards.

Of course, in reality a Bergman joke was more of the "character sets his own fart on fire" type. (It's in Fanny & Alexander, which also has a young Pernilla August [Darth Vader's mom] as a maid.)

Incidentally, what's everyone's favorite pie.
As a Tremontaine reader, I have to answer Tomatoe pie.

And here's why:

Micah hadn’t realized that cheese could be so good, all melty and drippy on top of tomato goop on top of flat bread baked in an oven.

It is wrong that my immediate first thought on reading this right now was picturing a Bergman-directed X-Files episode with Sir Attenborough and Werner Herzog as the co-leads investigating people being murdered by ennui in upstate NY?

Hmmm. I ran out of regular coffee, so I had to make this morning's batch with an emergency bag of pumpkin coffee I had in the freezer. I think it's doing weird sh*t to my brain.

Turns out the Union Square activity had nothing to do with Paris. A tour bus lost control, ran over a cyclist and two pedestrians, and slammed into five cars. Nobody dead, but lots of hospitalizations.

Last night was work. Work was hard as a result of Paris and a drunk guy who couldn't believe I didn't want to kiss him.

Today is kingmaker Saturday. I will be in the mass effect thread later on today - sorry about the delay.

Operation Hennessey is opening for a significantly more influential band in about an hour and a half. Our bass player is panicking on Facebook. Going to be an interesting night.

Thursday night, after we booked our reception hall, John went to play in his Wallyball league and turned his ankle. Today the ankle was rainbow shades of purple. I finally prevailed on him to go to a clinic for an X-ray, but I am happy to report it is not broken. Nasty sprain though. Probably a torn ligament :(

Oh, bad news. I'd rather break a bone. Heals faster and cleaner. Poor John.

Joy!

I got the yearly are you coming to Thanksgiving some of you haven't RSVP'd on Facebook (i am the only one that's not on Facebook, it's well known).

We're going to flex our culinary muscles and do something up for ourselves, since they're going to be dicks about it.

Watching a show where a dude goes to failing bars to fix them up. Almost every episode has bartenders drinking on a job. Seems a common thread, that. Like maybe something you really shouldn't do.

I would never think to invite somebody for Thanksgiving dinner via Facebook. That just screams that a family is so disconnected that they refuse to pick up the phone and call one another.

I hope your own Thanksgiving is awesome.

I have heard it is remarkably common, even in bars that aren't failing.

In fairness to my brothers, because of my own stubbornness I have switched phone providers and phones in the last three months, so I'm not sure they all have my new number. But they've never called before anyway, and our email hasn't changed in 15+ years, but to them life stops if it isn't on Facebook.
