I'd like to point out that even though most programming is heavily math-based, it won't be visible in the finished products. Consider Skyrim. There's a lot of math in the simplest ray tracing algorithms that determine what landscape features are visible to the player.
Isn't that common knowledge?
Oh, wait, I had my programming-obsessed brother boring me with ray-tracing details more than once.
What's worse, I, having some very old experience in programming (I hadn't written a piece of code, html and bat scripts not counting, in ages, for ages = approximately 20 years) though much less in math understood parts of it.

Little spiders hatched some time recently in or near my bathroom (I'm guessing "near" as I can't find anything to indicate where, exactly "in") and I've been killing dozens of the little things ever since.
Now I found one outside my bedroom door.

I don't want to kill you, spiders, but please just go outside.

Eh, if we kill all our spiders then we get attacked by ants.
We get attacked by ants, anyway.
Though at least they (tend to be) polite enough to stay outside.

But, no, really, we don't have all that many bug problems.
I mean, we always have one: it's just that it rotates around which one.
And we keep explaining politely that, they are welcome to live, if they just follow the daggum rules. And then they don't. And I kill them.

okay, here is an easy math expression.
First, get your math homework together. Don't do it. Just bring it all to class.
Inform math teacher you have a special experiment and guest involving math homework.
Call your physics teacher into the room, have your chemistry teacher on backup just in case.
Work with physics teacher to create a safe environment(safety goggles, sand pit nearby, fire extinguisher) for burning math homework.
Burn math homework.
Hold up hand as math teacher begins to panic, ask physics and chemistry teacher if necessary, to express what you just did as mathematic formulae.
Explain to math teacher that we do math every day and this is but one example.
Extinguish flames safely(safety first!)
Enjoy applause from fellow students.
Wait for A from teacher.

I'm going to politely disagree. I'd always start off on my first day explaining to my students that, while they were exceedingly unlikely to use anything I was going to show them that semester in their careers, research has shown that studying math trains the brain in logical thinking, and is vital to an educated society. (OK, the second clause was my addition.)
Math hurts because it shapes your brain.
EDIT: But yeah, as I've written before, when my students would say, "I can't do math" I would respond, "No, you just had a bad math teacher", and they'd always come up with a name.
poppycock.
You know what shapes your brain? Reading.
You know what deformes your brain? Useless information that has no bearing on your life that is was forced into a curriculum to beat those evil Russians way back in 1959. Math doesn't train the brain in logical thinking. It trains you to sit down, shut up, and do what you are told because that's the only way the person torturing you will stop. No, don't learn how to do it another way, do it their way or you will be marked wrong. Who cares if the book doesn't say anything even remotely close to what you are being trained to do. Be a useful, productive citizen! Math! Never question!
Unless you are on math team, then you can do whatever you want.

Meanwhile...
I'm actually a few exits away from JFK. Literally leads right to my house. Star wars con held at casino an exit away from JFK was less than 15 minutes for me to get to
So...
If Freehold leaves his house to walk to the con averaging 5kph (stoplights, crossings, etc., not saying you're slow) and at the same moment Joss Whedon speeds by in an Uber to go to the same con and the Uber is averaging 35kph and Freehold doubles his pace to hurl flaming bikes and vituperatives at Whedon but then has to stop and catch his breath for 38 seconds, but Whedon's Uber stops and double-parks at the corner bodega three blocks away for two minutes seven seconds so he can pick up a pack of smokes, allowing Freehold time to catch up and the cycle to repeat, how many magical plus signs can I get before Freehold scratches me off his list of ladies to flirt with when they are feeling bad?Freehold DM |

What do you do when paladins fall...in love!
What do you do when paladins fall in love with adamantine grapplin' succubi?

Looks sternly at Limey.

False.

True!
You know what deformes your brain?
Define "deform" (as "deformation" is actually a process of all learning, hence "shaping" the brain...)?
Useless information that has no bearing on your life that is was forced into a curriculum to beat those evil Russians way back in 1959.
Which information is this? 'Cause math has been taught a long, long time prior to 1959.
Math doesn't train the brain in logical thinking. It trains you to sit down, shut up, and do what you are told because that's the only way the person torturing you will stop. This is false. I say this as a math tutor.
Math is a fundamental set of tools from which you can take principles that apply to every discipline in life.
Also, it's something that, to some extent or another, will be used in literally everything you do, even if it's really simple versions of the stuff.
Unless you are on math team, then you can do whatever you want.
This is also false. Don't commit crimes and don't do things that needlessly hurt people.
EDIT: To clarify, I know (and so should you) that FHDM would never - and does not, even in this post - actually condone doing "bad things" - I'm just giving him a hard time with this last one, mostly exclusively because I was kind of on a roll with giving him a hard time on the rest of this post. ;D

but spiders eat other insects...
1) Spiders are arachnids, not insects #sillyserious
2) I know, and none are welcome in the house, because...
3) ... neither insects nor spiders (nor any other living thing that I can determine, save humans specifically invited by me) recognizes the difference between my family and I, and, you know, "food" (or rather, they all inevitably bite somebody, usually while asleep), and...
4) ... often are either poisonous (even if mild to the point of mere discomfort) or potentially disease-carriers.
As an aside, they are warned that, while they are permitted to be on the sidewalk, there are no guarantees of their safety while they persist in such risky activity. Also, they are not permitted on the house, but they will be pursued with less vigor (and subject only minor, periodic purges), so long as they remain outside (and do not actually threaten or harm myself or my loved ones). I mean, I tell them all the daggum time. It's not my fault they don't listen.
