Gee, you would have thought Freehold would have made that a top-of-thread post.

Counting today, ELEVEN more days until Winter Break.
Also, starting next week, the difficult autistic kid in my class finally goes to half-day and leaves before lunch. And life gets so. much. easier.

Me: I'm wearing 25 pounds of winter clothing. So, no, it doesn't feel that cold to me.

They're probing for weaknesses in The Man Who Wrestles Mini-Bobcats. It's not quite the sequel to The Men Who Stare at Goats, but they're trying.

Sting was awesome.

That's about all I remember...

Read the first book of DUNE, I am an avid devourer of books, and sci-fi/fantasy especially, (Hence why I haunt this web site) and I could not make myself read the rest of the series. Just seems to be a book/series that one either loves or doesn't.

I thought both movies were pretty good adaptations of the book though, OK, yes, the first one is NOW just a reminder of all that was so cheesy about the 80's, (But so are SO many other movies that I still love and defend to this day) But as best I can recall, they were both pretty straightforward adaptations,

as opposed to SOME books-to-movies treatments where the ONLY thing they didnt change was the TITLE. ;P

I feel sick.

I have to ham it up and act even more sick than I am, however, just in case it gets worse and I call out tomorrow, because I live in America, where we need to be nearly dying for our bosses to let us call out without a guilt trip, cut hours in the future, s+&%ty assignments given to us, or other totally illegal punishments that every manager gives out for you responding to an uncontrollable biological reaction.

I hate my society, where the business comes before the worker every g**!!!n time.

Lay on your bed with your head hanging off upside down right before you call. It will make you dizzy enough to sound off-balance.

Well.

Work is turning the thumbscrews today.

Apparently I am the worst micromanager and noone respects me.

The kids seem to be really picking up on subtle cues in Gatsby this year. So many awkward "UM" looks when they meet Wolfsheim and see Gatsby get a cop to apologize for pulling him over.

Well,

TODAY I am setting the stage for this mornings Recital Hour, (college students performing for their peers) and I find a half-burnt cigarette butt on a carpeted choir riser.

Hm. We did have a large rehearsal last night (Christmas concert is tonight) But I'm fairly certain that no one was smoking during the rehearsal. ;P

I have no idea how it got there. They may have been smoking it outside, put it out, and carried it inside in a jacket pocket, and it fell out on stage during rehearsal. ??? Dunno.

But Come ON people!
Besides the campus being 'Smoking NO-NO' zone, HOW are you in the performing arts (band and choir) and NOT KNOW that THEATER AND FIRE DO NOT MIX!!!!

*Sigh*

And again, I am not allowed to beat people senseless, no matter how much they may or may not deserve it.
And they wonder WHY the Aged Wizzies' Bald Spot
Keeps.
Getting.
Bigger?!?

>_<

I'm cutting pavers today, with a wet saw (has a hose hooked up to it so it blasts the saw blade with water thus minimizing dust).

It's about 30 degrees with 15-30 mph wind gusts.

So that's fun.

Last night the kids did their exotic fruit tasting.

Not only had some of the fruits molded horrifically in the 5 days since we bought them (in spite of being refrigerated), but both kids' conclusion was, "No wonder these aren't very well-known. They're not very good."

The one fruit they found tasty was, unsurprisingly, the starfruit. But that one amused them no end because of the warning about kidney problems.

So yeah, they decided it was worth the $30 to experiment, but most of the fruit went straight into the green waste.

It never ceases to amaze me how much of our modern society is based on what is basically exceedingly advanced forms of alchemical necromancy. Also geomancy, but mostly necromancy.

I had them do a short timed write today - just a paragraph about what they thought was up with Gatsby before we started on today's chapter because maybe little writing prompts now and then will make them less essay-phobic later. I got everything ranging from "Gatsby's an Oxford man like he says" to "Gatsby is a trained assassin" and "Gatsby is a German spy."

EDIT: Just got one that's on the money.

Spoiler:
"Gatsby came from nothing - he's not arrogant like Tom but acts more humble, so he knows what it's like to have nothing."

is that the correct answer?

For the purposes of grading, the only "incorrect" answers were the ones they didn't explain.

For the purposes of story, basically, yeah.

Still pissed at my boss's accusations, porn or no porn. He is upset that I am not a mini him, I would wager, and whenever I make a decision he would not he views it as "not leadership" or somesuch nonsense. But when I DO something he would do or at his behest he says I'm micromanaging and noone respects me. Can't win. Ugh.

I am rather excited that Owlcat and Paizo are making Wrath of the Righteous now.

I bought Kingmaker recently... Coincidence?

Did someone ask to be set on fire? I heard someone needs to be set on fire. Where do I need to be?

(On the serious side, you have my number. Call me if you need to vent. I know nobody actually uses a phone for such mundane purposes anymore, but in my experience, saying it to another human is frequently more effective than typing it into the internet ether.)

I've only put in about 500+ hours into Kingmaker (I feel a little ashamed at that statement) since it came out. I suppose I just might play Wrath of the Righteous. Maybe.

Perhaps.

Hey, Freehold. Maybe this video will help you chill. (It's a cute beagle yawning.)

And in not good news, my Mom is back in the hospital. I got a call from my Dad this morning that she was in a lot of pain and had blood in her stool, so he called their doctor and was told to get her to the ER. She couldn't walk to the car, so had to call an ambulance. She's been admitted to Intermediate Care, being given blood and pain meds, and now we're waiting for test results. Hopefully it's nothing serious, but who knows?
