That's the equivalent of loading all the sins of the community onto the Scapegoat and sending it out into the desert, surely?

You might check out the vegetarian & vegan recipes at Serious Eats. I've made the "vegan bacon" and it's pretty darn tasty.

Shudder all you want. I'm not a converter. I do this for my own health.

The more the rest of the world gets fat and arterially clogged, the healthier I become by comparison to the national norm. It's win-win!

Also, I actually have a dehydrator (my father in law is currently borrowing it) so I can do that super easy!

Fake bacon is better than no bacon.

Or so I've heard. :-)

That is incorrect. Its lies make it considerably worse.

I got home from work 10 minutes ago. For some reason, I agreed to go work in Alameda at 8 AM tomorrow with corporate types flitting around everywhere. I have no idea what I'm doing when I get there, and Outer Sunset San Francisco to Alameda is one hell of a clopen.

Probably too late for today, but the ferry is AWESOME! No one knows about it, so it's not all that crowded (especially since you're doing an anti-commute), the ferry terminal in Alameda is a short bus ride (or even walk, if you consider 2 miles "short" from anywhere in the city), and you get to be on a ferry as the sun is rising.

Yeah, it's freezing, but it's awesome...

I've ridden that ferry to Oakland a couple times, and I agree with you that it is awesome, but for this journey it is significantly more convenient to use Bart to cross the bay and transfer to AC Transit line 31. It's not even transit time, it's the long headway on the ferry. First one gets me there way too early, next one gets me there late.

I'm currently rolling through downtown Oakland.

That vegan bacon recipe doesn't taste like bacon. But it does a pretty good job of giving you a similar textural experience, hits similar tastes (smoky, savory, umami, peppery, salty, teeny bit sweet), and satisfies your cravings for fat and protein. I wouldn't call it bacon, but it does make a tasty BLT.

Most bacon bits sold on the shelf or given at fast food restaurants on salads (such as at Wendy's) are fake, anyway. Soy is cheaper than meat. Unless it says real bacon on the bottle, it's fake.

I've never eaten bacon bits, I grew up on a farm and had to help butcher our animals. I literally used to have to shoot my bacon to eat it.

But yes, I have heard they were fake. :-)

I also never, and I mean NEVER, get a salad from restaurants, if I get Listeria from a salad, it's going to be my own damn fault.

I realize vegetarians might not have that option.

Not that there's anything wrong with bacon bits or salads, I love making myself a salad. :-)

Nudity is NOT A CRIME.

Coincidentally, today (thanks to the heat) appears to be Who Can Come Into Work in the Least Amount of Clothing Day. Yippee! (I lost, by the way, which is something else to be thankful for)

The Supervisor claimed to have been able to see somebody's "foo-foo", but I'm pretty sure she was making that up.

Kind of a not that great day, the dog tried to get injured, and the kids are being surly because they want to go places and do stuff. But I work tonight, I don't want to spend money because we're down to our last twenty bucks before payday at the end of the week, the dishes are piling up because I've been dealing with finger injuries on each hand for a couple weeks now, which are thankfully healed, and I still need to walk the dog and get something at the grocery store for the family to eat while I'm at work.

Still, could be worse. :-)

I got to introduce TS to the pain of Hanabi Sunday night, and then we got stomped in Ticket to Ride by one of my PFS crewmates. It was my first play of TtR, so I thought I did pretty well completing both my trips and fighting for longest rail. Can't wait to board game again!

Oooh... we just learned about Hanabi a few weeks ago, and it's a blast to see everyone's minds whirling.

One of our best friend's fathers worked for Lockheed Martin during the Cold War.

We were not even allowed to ask him how his day went.

Oh good, is today my birthday! I am so very excited for my birthday! It will be a very good birthday, oh yes it will.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Gotta work tonight, not really excited, I'd call in but it's the last day of the week that I work, I have a strict don't stress about work on my days off policy, calling in would only ruin that.

I got confirmation about what is and isn't secret. I can say what I did, just not what I saw. We have a fake store where corporate builds fixtures to see what they and the buyers like as to shelf layouts and specialized merchandise. The fake store moved locations, so extra labor is needed to rebuild it. However, because it's a test store, there's a lot of merchandise here that hasn't gone to the stores yet, and may or may not do so at all. Many of these objects are kewl, but to speak of them is verboten.

Captain Yesterday fun fact: my mom divorced my biological father when I was one because he was physically abusive, I haven't seen him since I was five, which will be 35 years this summer, and I'm just fine with that.

And don't worry about stirring up old pain or anything, this is all s!$* I came to terms with a long time ago. :-)

I don't know Z's dad's name. Apparently he abandoned mom long ago, so anything is possible. I think Z still knows him and I don't think violence was involved, though.
