God jul, joyeaux noël, feliz navidad, merry christmas, and frohe weihnachten all!

This song was written in Perth, Western Australia, in 1960. Rolf Harris was working at a television station with an American named John D Brown and, thinking it was crazy to be singing Christmas songs about snow and ice when the temperature was around 100 degrees Farenheit, they wrote this song.

in australia, christmas comes in the middle of a very hot summer
so when santa claus delivers his presents
he's not taken around by reindeer because
they can't stand the terrible heat

he's taken around by six big, white, old man kangaroos
called the six white boomers

early on one christmas day
a joey kangaroo
was far from home and lost
in a great, big zoo

mommy....where's my mommy?
they've taken her away

we'll help you find your mommy, son
hop up on the sleigh

so up inside the bag of toys
little joey hopped
but they hadn't gone far when santa stopped
unharnessed all the reindeer
and joey wondered why
then he heard a far off booming in the sky

(boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom)

[chorus]
six white boomers
snow white boomers
racing santa claus through the blazing sun
six white boomers
snow white boomers
on his australian run

pretty soon old santa began to feel the heat
took his fur-lined boots off to cool his feet
into one popped joey
feelin' quite okay
while those old man kangaroos kept pullin' on the sleigh
hey!

[chorus]

then joey said to santa, "santa, what about the toys?
aren't you giving some to these girls and boys?"

"well, they've all had their presents, sonny
we were here last night
this trip is an extra trip
joey's special flight

[chorus]

soon the sleigh was flashing past
right over marble bah
"slow down there!" cried santa
"it can't be far
hop up on my lap here, son
and have a look around"
"there, there she is!
that's mommy! bounding up and down!"

[chorus]

well, that's the bestest christmas treat
that joey ever had
curled up in mother's pouch feeling snug and glad
the last they saw was santa heading northwards from the sun
the only year the boomers worked a double run

[chorus]

AUSTRALIAN JINGLE BELLS

Dashing through the bush,
in a rusty Holden Ute,
Kicking up the dust,
esky in the boot,
Kelpie by my side,
singing Christmas songs,
It's Summer time and I am in
my singlet, shorts and thongs

Oh! Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way,
Christmas in Australia on a scorching summers day, Hey!
Jingle bells, jingle bells, Christmas time is beaut !,
Oh what fun it is to ride in a rusty Holden Ute.

Engine's getting hot;
we dodge the kangaroos,
The swaggie climbs aboard,
he is welcome too.
All the family's there,
sitting by the pool,
Christmas Day the Aussie way,
by the barbecue.

Oh! Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way,
Christmas in Australia on a scorching summers day, Hey!
Jingle bells, jingle bells, Christmas time is beaut!,
Oh what fun it is to ride in a rusty Holden Ute.

Come the afternoon,
Grandpa has a doze,
The kids and Uncle Bruce,
are swimming in their clothes.
The time comes 'round to go,
we take the family snap,
Pack the car and all shoot through,
before the washing up.

Oh! Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way,
Christmas in Australia on a scorching summers day, Hey!
Jingle bells, jingle bells, Christmas time is beaut!,
Oh what fun it is to ride in a rusty Holden Ute

* Holden = General Motors
* Ute = pick up
* Esky (Eskimo) = brand of cooler
* Kelpie = working dog
* thongs = flip flops
* Swaggie (Swagman) = transient temporary worker
* shoot through = take off, leave

Congrats Teters, I assume there is now room for a cars eat;). We made it to WI well watching many people drive into the ditch. An inch of snow can make the roads slick well at the same time making most of up here apparently think it isn't that bad no need to slow down.

*blink*

Merry Christmas Eve to my Christian friends!

I hope all is going well. I am off to dispense more merriment. Looking forward to devouring the five-rib roast tonight I won in a raffle! SCHWEET!

Mr. Copper: Rather ironic, but this is very much in the spirit of Christmas. It's a festival of violence. They say that human beings only survive depending on whether they've been good or bad. It's barbaric!

The Doctor: Actually, that's not true. Christmas is a time of peace and thanksgiving and— what am I going on about? My Christmasses are always like this.

Baking, baking, and more baking. But at least there will be plenty of yummy treats to eat. Making something for everyone. Sugar cookies for Bryce, gingerbread for Dan, plum pudding for my sister-in-law, and julbrod for me. Which is what is cooking now. My kitchen smells like cardamom. Yum.

Looks like Jude has a bit of a fever. I hope he feels better soon, especially with Christmas tomorrow.

Guys, weirdest Christmas EVER!

After what happened that week and me being alone (GF is with her Mum in the ore Mountains) I was not really in Christmas mood.
I spend the evening with my mum and her Husband. Like every good German we went to church the one and only time in the year. Well it's the time the Referent tells the Nativity Story and all the classics are sung “O du Fröhliche” “Es ist ein Ros' entsprungen” “Hossiana Christemheit” Stille Nacht, Heilige Nacht”. (Stay with me, I get to the point soon)

In Gelnhausen Christmas Service is open air on the market square, everyone is holding a candle with the Peace-Light of Bethlehem.
The thing was almost over, “Silent Night” was sung, the preacher gave the Blessing, the Church Bells where ringing, suddenly:

A FREAKING HUGE SHOOTING STAR APPEARS, slowly moves over us with a sparkling, firey tail. You-Tub Link
A shooting star during Christmas Service! Just wow

And later, when I came home, I discovered that the annual Christmas concert of my villages Volunteer Fire Fighters Marching Band was held right in front of my house this year, so another round of “Stille Nacht” and “Hossiana Christemheit” with my Neighbours to round out the evening :-)
And now: Wacken 2011 Festival on TV \m/

Okay...

Yesterday after work, a friend of mine- one of my players from the Darklight Sisterhood game- comes over. It's a bit of a dark time in the FHDM household. At work I had to borrow a coworker's GPS to drive out to the middle of nowhere(AKA Far Rockaway) and the drive was NOT easy. My wife just found out she failed physics and will have to be in school for another semester. So the christmas card she brings us, signed by everyone from the Darklight Sisterhood game to the Kingmaker game to people who aren't even in any games that are being run right now, really cheers us up. We get a frame for the card and put it up on our wall, marvelling at it. It warms our hearts, but my friend says there's more to the gift in the hallway. I go into the hallway and what's waiting out there but a HUGE BOX WITH A 37" FLATSCREEN TV INSIDE!!!!!!

Everyone put money in to get it, although it was spearheaded by our friend. This is the greatest gift my wife and I have ever received, and while I was bouncing off the walls over it, my wife was holding back tears and did indeed cry when we were making our thank you calls today. Both she and I feel we truly don't deserve such a wonderful gift, or the friends we have. Because right now I'm watching Avengers EMH(and just finished Call of Duty World At War- the first game I've beaten on a 360!!!) on a TV that is the largest thing I have ever seen in this house and I gotta tell you it's both awesome and humbling. I truly have no words other than the copious thanks I heaped upon everyone.

Time for Christmas cookies! Nom! Nom! Nom!

You haven't properly thanked people until you've done it on Facebook.

I actually was considering getting Facebook to thank everyone upon. To show that my hatred for Zuckerberg is easily eclipsed by my love for my friends. But then my wife said she already posted on Facebook.

Waiting for the wife to get back with the stuff we stashed at her 'rents house. I think she just pulled up, catch y'all later.

What madness is this? Opening presents on Christmas Eve instead of Christmas Morning?

My parents would never have stood for it.

It's quite cultural. I know of a few people who open presents on Christmas Eve and do other things on that day that require them to take the day off of work because they are in church ALL DAY on Christmas Day. Others do a funky vigil and are in church Christmas Eve into Christmas Day and don't exchange presents until 3 kings day- and those presents are always rather humble.

I used to open them Christmas Eve.

Shadow Lodge

This is actually my first time celebrating Christmas in...I don't know how many years.

But did they sing to you wearing chain mail bikinis?

Interestingly enough, one of my players is creating a coinmail g-string thingie for me to wear. I must run while wearing it, and not complain if any tender skin is pinched. This is because of a boast I made years ago about my love of Red Sonja and chainmail bikinis.

No, not naked. Coinmail g-string thing!!!!
