We stopped making gingerbread houses about the time the kidlet started asking if we could make a gingerbread AT-AT instead....My gingerbread assembling skills were barely enough to manage houses. I managed to make a gingerbread train the one year, but that was the absolute upper limit of what I can manage. :)

Lynora, I bought a SONY VAIO from Wal*Mart last August and save from two minor glitches, it has performed perfectly well for a little as $750 dollars. That including warranty. You might want to look into that particular model.

Also, congrats to the Moorluck household!!!

Also, Lynora, I think you should consider netbooks. They're great for getting online. What do you use your laptop for, mostly?

Thanks. I'm actually looking at a mac mini, which I can get for around $700 since I can just use my tv as the monitor, but it will probably be months before we can get the money together. And I just realized I need to rearrange my class schedule. Taking a computer class when I only have an ipad at home would be silly. : /

Kidlet has a netbook. I borrowed it once right after my laptop broke. *shudder* It was awful. It's soooo slow, and constantly kicks you out of programs and makes you restart from the beginning just because you changed one little thing.

For getting online I have my ipad. What I need a computer for is things like Word and Excel and art stuff. Also managing my music collection....is currently driving me nuts that I have no way to get stuff I buy on itunes onto my ipod. Oh, and my other email account. Comcast doesn't play nice with my ipad so I can't access that email at all. It's mostly spam, but there are a couple of important things that use that account. And I'd really like to be able to watch netflix on my tv again. I was streaming it through my laptop, but now, not so much. (We have cable boxes for the tv in the living room and the one in Dan's room, but not really wanting to pay for a third box.) It's all pretty basic stuff, but it's the stuff I can't do with the ipad.

Okay...I haven't been posting as zealously as I normally do in the past few days, and I feel the time has come to explain why...I'm going for my GRE today. I've been off work the past few days and I have been primarily studying math, which is my weak arm, but I haven't been ignoring the reading and writing...I tend to go on a tangent when I write, so I have been struggling to keep myself on topic. Anywho, today's the day, so I should be posting more often after the test is over. There have been some other things going on as well- good stuff, don't worry- and I'll share more after today. Wish me luck...and a few prayers wouldn't hurt.

I don't know what a GRE is, but it sounds important, good luck.

GRE is a "Graduate Records Exam;" you take that before you go to graduate school.......

Urgh.

On the bright side, I find Honda's usually fairly reliable, and their service centre's also quite good, at least here in Sydney.

They want well-rounded leaders. The military education section of the system has been maxed with online-based courses since they became available, and it was decided that it needed to be broken up into separate sections. So they now have online courses, resident courses, and NCO schools as the three categories. Since I haven't been to many resident courses, I took a big hit, and can't recover that until I can get into some in-person courses that qualify for promotion points. Which conflicts with my college courses next semester, so I probably won't get a chance to further my military ed until after April. :(

I understand the reason, and can agree that online courses have been too big a part of the system, but the timing of the change did not help me in the slightest.

Planning on a new game. The players are all old D&D 2, VtM and GURPS players.

All will be new to pathfinder, and the one player who I have the most contact with is a big anti adventure path person who prefers heavy sandbox games. One of the players is a rules lawyer who hated gurps and bogged down the combat till they were tired of that game.

Let see how well this plays out. I am thinking of Crimson Throne and just not saying a damned thing about it being an AP. I have the Korvosa booklet so I could do it very sandboxish. I am not sure that they would know the difference.

Our group is currently playing CotCT in a somewhat sand-boxy style, at least in parts (and also our GM kind of threw out the plot as written at some point and introduced a whole bunch of other stuff).

I post our campaign journals here if you are in the mood for some (hopefully) inspirational reading. I think we leave the rails in about the second or third session and only come back to them on brief occasions.

Yep - take what you want from the AP and use them as events to spark the sand box play from your players.

I got the cheapest Compaq that they had at Wal mart for under $400 for work and it has worked fine for me. I have no clue what your requirements are, but mine are pretty minimal.

Why yes I did.

Hurry up and put out the set for Book 6! I expect we'll have got back to somewhere in the vicinity of the actual AP plot by then and might have some use for them (we are in 'Book 5' at the moment, but no-where near the Cinderlands or Scarwall).
