Hey BT. Where you off to this time?

Also, you mentioned you went hiking -- where'd you go?

Is that where you're from?

One of my players just moved there and he says it's a pretty hopping place, full of hot, friendly, pot-smokin' hippie chicks.

If this is true, then I must say I feel no sympathy for you, only jealousy.

I'm originally from Syracuse, though before moving back there for university, I'd spent ten years in Ticonderoga, NY, seven years in Erie, PA, and one year in Savannah, GA.

Syracuse is about as far from hopping as you can get, excluding Rochester (which is the very ANTITHESIS of hopping), but I will concede the point about the hippies. I hate pot, I hate hippies, and I've been with the same woman for three years. Which puts me exactly nowhere.

Who's the player that moved there? I'm trying to catalogue all of the D&D players in SYR, and have been coming up with just about nothing (and there's only one gaming store in the entire city). I know a fantasy artist by the name of J. Edwin Stevens that plays in a weekly group, but they're full up on people. A fellow player and friend of mine from grade school also lives in town, and for a while, I had a group consisting of a couple of Syracuse University students and a guy from Colgate.

I meant Burlington.

Well, in that case, no, I'm not from there. Still not a fan of hippies, still only one gaming store.

Huntington Utah for the job and, Rio Grande National park for the hiking trip.

They completely screwed up the schedule for the Utah project so I'm scrambling to get a hotel and take care of some issues at home before I have to go. Sometimes this company makes me want to pound my head into something.

Meh. The scab is still tender. I really want either those political threads outta OTD, or a new subforum with the silly threads placed there. It's pissing me off I can't get focus to work anymore.

I'm getting real close to just triangling this place up and following Urizen out into FB. At least there I can talk gaming in relative peace.

Sad to say monkeyman, but I find the gaming forums on here little better. Nothing but childish opinionated bullcrap just like the political OTD threads. I understand your feeling on this but, lately I've been good enough to mostly just look at FAWTL, the pbp I'm in and a few odd gaming threads. I stay away from most else.

I'm very fortunate in that I could really care less about the rules of the game. The things that make the rules mavens seethe roll off my back. Of course, I triangled up those forums long ago. I even triangled up the Superstar ones last time, just couldn't stand the senseless trolling.

Politics I take seriously though. That's rules for reality. And I do like to debate them, but it seems that people are more out to score points against what they believe is the enemy than actually have a discussion. So ... yeah, I might just go to keeping my PbPs open, and fnck the rest. It's sad that it has come to this, but it is what it is.

Also, on FB I can choose who I discuss gaming with. Here it's wide open. I used to think that was a plus. Not so much now..

Akk tentacles!

For the most part I don't really post on the political threads thinking that I'm going to change the minds of most of the people I'm arguing with, but I hold out hope that some lurkers or folks on the fence might reconsider some basic assumptions.

Unfortunately I'm a pretty weak writer, and communicating effectively on boards is a challenge for me. Sometimes I wish I could talk to folks for an hour or two over some beers. I'm skilled communicator in person, and I'm fairly easy to talk to so I find it especially frustrating that my written communication skills fall so short.

*shrug*

I'm probably way over thinking this. I just need to focus on the job for a couple of months and put my personal life in better order.

*sigh* The flashbacks...

A lifetime ago, when I was first getting into D&D seriously after needing a break from WOD and their now overly-angsty messageboards, I was trying desperately to get into my beloved insert name of beloved TSR campaign setting here messageboard society. However, there was a lot of fear, madness, and trolling around the subject of 9/11(this was what.. a year and a half later?), and I ended up leaving the community after one truly awful thread that the mods took too long to close. I was leery about messageboards after that, but then I got a subscription to Dragon magazine. What the hell was this "Paizo" thing anyway? Did it mean WOTC was dead? I had to get more information. It lead me to paizo.com and the messageboard community here. I met with some trolling here too(this is the internet after all), but by that time, I had developed a stubbornness to not let trolls get to me. Why play their game? Why even let them affect me? I give my two cents here and there, make the occasional quip, agree and disagree with courtesy, and overall be myself and enjoy myself. This is where I enjoy myself, meet like minded individuals, love cheesecake, and hate on the trifecta of Joss Whedon, Mark Zuckerberg/Facebook, and Alton Brown. No troll can take that away from me.

....

aaaaaand after re-reading your post, I see you were asking me about where else I post, not why I don't post elsewhere. LOL!!!

I check out the L5R messageboards on occasion, but I don't really post as I find the community to be too haughty and short-sighted, but that's about it.
