PALM DESERT, Calif. -- What appears to be a massive power outage has hit a wide area of Southern California.

Callers to News Channel 3 reported a loss of power hitting around 3:45 p.m. in an area from Sun City in Palm Desert to the north a...ll the way to La Quinta Cove.

Parts of Indio, including downtown, and areas toward the Salton Sea were also affected.

Some callers to our newsroom reported hearing a loud explosion near North Shore at the Salton Sea.

In La Quinta, the Wal Mart Supercenter has been evacuated after the electricity went out.

On Twitter, people from all over the southland are reporting power issues. Some in San Diego reported a loss of power and cell phone issues.

News Channel 3 is investigating the cause of the outage, and will post updates as soon as we get them.

SAN DIEGO -- Utility crews are investigating widespread power outages reported throughout the San Diego area.

San Diego Gas & Electric crews are trying to determine the cause of the outage, which has affected various cities around the coun...ty, from the South Bay to downtown, to cities in the North County and into areas as far east as El Centro.

SDG&E representatives say they are looking into the issue and currently do not know what caused the outages.

10News and 10News.com will have more information as this story develops.

You have more info than I do, CJ.

All we know is that there are at least 2000 customers out in every area that SDG&E serves. Loss of power seems to cover as far south as Baja, as far north as the San Diego County line, and as far east as Yuma, AZ.

No one seems to be able to say what exactly caused the problem.

The following has been stuck in my head for a few days now, so I thought I'd share my pain with you all....

Her name is Lola, she was a showgirl
With yellow feathers in her hair
And a dress cut
Just cut down to there

She would merengue
And do the cha-cha
And while she tried to be a star
Tony always tended bar

Across the crowded floor
They worked from eight 'til four
They were young and they had each other
Who could ask for more?

At the Copa, Copacabana
The hottest spot, north of Havana
At the Copa, Copacabana
Music and passion were always the fashion at the Copa
They fell in love, love

Music, mu-music and passion were always the fashion at the Copa
They fell in, fell in love

I saw Kylie Minogue's wax figure in Madame Tussaud's in London. Talk about getting something stuck in your head. That thing should have been behind curtains in some adult only section.

No matter what you do, do NOT google "Real Dolls".

$4000 sex dolls.

Which makes no sense at all. I mean if you got that kinda dough to throw around you should have no shortage of companionship. :P

Pretty sure Gru is the guy from Despicable Me. Due to the fact that we watch it almost every day.

It would not surprise me to find there are people who would prefer a doll to the real thing.

$4000 is a lot to spend to get your rocks off, but it’s the gift that keeps on giving! A companion for life (or at least until she starts getting frayed and stained ...) The same money probably only gives you what, twenty or so dates (or visits with a professional)?

Grrr!

Still no Vikings vs Ninja pdf to download!

Doesn't the people at the Paizo warehouse realise that the shipments for this issue should prioritize the Scandinavian and Japanese customers before everyone else?

From my local newspaper today: Found wreckage could be from the Viking Age.

It could be a viking ship that's embedded into the riverbed near Älvängen*. Bo-Holger Hasselqvist and Bo Larsen who found the wreck told a fascinated group of listeners about their find at Lödöse Museum.

...

Age uncertain
What has been determined is that it's a hull of a boat, but the age of it has not yet been determined.

-The shape, the measurements, and finds made in the vicinity points to the possibility of it being a ship from the Viking Age, says Bo Larsen.

During the Viking Age there were a trading city at Göta Älv** just north of Äskekärr***. And there, one knows according to Larsen, that there has been a wharf during the Viking Age. One has also found a viking ship there.

To found out the age of the now found wreck expert help is needed. At the lecture today Staffan von Arbin was in place. He is a marine archeologist at Bohuslän's Museum.

-The museum, along with the Vänermuseum, has been given the assignment to take samples of the wood to determine the age, he tells.

Expert help called in
The wreck is to be localised and inspected with the help of field-divers from Göta Engineering Regiment. The determining of age can then be made using two methods.
-We can do a year-ring dating, but the shiptimber is worked on, so year rings can be carved away there, Staffan von Arbin explains.
As an alternative one can use the C14 method.

*Älvängen = The Elf Meadow
**Göta Älv = Göta River
***Äskekärr = Äske Marsh

(And pardon the bad prose, it's an on-the-fly translation of a piece of writing that was fairly mediocre to start with.)

I hope my car isn't going to cost too much money to fix. I got in it to come to work tonight, and the power steering is out. Had to get a friend to come pick me up and drive me in. Power steering pump might not cost too much to replace. I checked a couple of websites and found pumps for my car ranging from $60 to $80. Wish I knew more about cars so I could do it myself (or had a friend who knows enough about cars to do it for me). I hope (not sure how realistically) that it is something even simpler, like a hose that came loose and just needs reattached and then filled with fluid. Though, with my luck, it will be something hugely expensive and difficult to fix.

The Dendrochronology (Tree-ring dating) shouldn't be too hard if the ships keel or even the stems still exist there would be some good solid pieces of wood there.

Also as its in a river bank some simple soil stratigraphy should give a rough date.

People always want to rush to carbon dating....

Is it a Knaar or a Longship? A long ship would be cool.

I love Viking history, imagine "going a viking" from Uppsala in Sweden sailing down the rivers of Russia (Rus is the name given to the Swedish Vikings)to the Caspian sea to raid cities in Iran. Some epic travel there...
