I got an IRON TEAPOT.
We also cooked & ate the Festivus Gobbler, went for a walk and fed the Festivus Quackers and Hissers with oats, watched Star Wars, video-called my parents, tried and failed to do a Beetlejuice jigsaw puzzle and sang Festivus Anthems. I got in trouble for starting up with a version of 'Mary, the Red-Nosed Virgin'

I'm workin most of Christmas.
Merry Christmas Fawtl. I'm gonna get a little sentimental. Y'all help me get though my days as I lurk and chat. Hearing both the good days and bad. Chatting game talk and anime. Folks just saying hello or good morning to chatting about weather. This thread has quickly become a daily routine for me these past months. So I'm gonna vent a bit and put to words some stuff I've been grappling with.
While I love my job and wouldn't trade it for much right now, holidays are a difficult time for me. I do good work helping the hard of hearing connect to their families. Trouble is I'm inundated with well-wishing families and people describing tragic circumstances. Normally I'm fairly good at separating myself from my work and I don't usually hold onto any lasting memories of the conversations. Holidays are a little different though. Every conversation is roughly the same and I'm bombarded with the same feelings of loss over and over again. I caption the hard of hearing person's phone call and speak as the person speaking to them does so our voice to text program can send them the text. Stuff like "I love you mom" or "I wish you were here". Conversational stuff. Normally no problem in small doses.
My mom passed about a year and 8 months ago to cancer. We'd known for about 9(10?) years that it was going to be a hard thing. I did most of my grieving when I first learned she had cancer when I was in high school. Our relationship was complex. I loved her all the same even if it stressed me out when she asked me if she could borrow money or asked me what my college plans were. She was the best cook I ever knew even now. Still, when I moved out, got a full time job and got married, she was my mother and I felt no matter what she'd always be on my side(My sister is a monster and my mother still helped her out often). My dad is a deadbeat and they divorced a long time ago. My brother has dropped off the grid entirely. My aforementioned sister is probably one of the worst human beings I've ever met or possibly will ever meet. My mother's parent was a foster child so familial ties are pretty much non-existent. I still talk to my Grandma on my dad's side(Whose just terribly disappointed in my dad).
Holidays are hard. I keep remembering the slow degradation of my mother's health. The last conversation I had with her in the hospital and the moment I knew my mother had died when she looked at me or my direction but there was no more light behind her eyes. She "lived" like that for a few more days before her body went next.
I have a great friend group though and my wife is wonderful. Most days are good. Holidays are just really hard.

We got Tiny T-Rex Spiderman Miles Morales and a Battle Bus to drop his Fortnite figures off and watch them splat on the floor.
We got Crookshanks a model greenhouse and a steampunk puzzle box.
In addition to the lingerie spree from Victoria's Secret before Christmas I also got the General the Bob's Burgers burger of the day recipe cookbook and a couple of Mutants and Masterminds novels (which are really good according to the General).
In addition to Orks! The Roleplaying Game I also got Atlas of Earth Prime for Mutants and Masterminds and a set of Starfinder Spaceship miniatures (the pact worlds fleet from the CRB) and a bluetooth speaker.
We got my family some presents but it was too damn cold to drive to the other side of town to drop it off.

HELP ME BREAK GREG VAUGHN
I have been fortunate to be invited to play in a Campaign with Pathfinder Author Greg Vaughn, who has killed so many of us in his award winning AP Contributions. Greg is a lovely fellow in real life, but loves to kill characters at conventions to humble we who think we know every trick in the book.
We start the campaign this weekend and I need help with a Swashbuckler build. Go for broke. Anything in a Paizo rulebook is allowed.
Please feel free to add other Class Levels in the build and suggest archtypes, traits & feats.
I was going to Level dip in Paladin for Saves and Smite but Greg said thats the one class he can't see me play (he's right), advice for level dip and when they occur would be great.
I am on of the two Martial Classes and there is no real tank.
Here is what I have so far:
Race: Aasimar, Azata Blooded
Class: Swashbuckler 1
Rolled Stats 4d6 take best 3
ST: 11
DEX: 17 + 2 = 19
CON: 15
INT: 12
WIS: 12
CHA: 14 + 2 = 16
Once per day: Glitterdust
Starting Gold: 170 GP
Possible Feats: Steadfast Personality (??)
Going with a Scimitar (Saber) as the primary weapon
Happy Holidays, Cheers and thank you !!!
With no strength, what is your plan for going dex to damage?
Swashbucklers pair well with other dex/charisma classes. A level or two of rogue/ninja/slayer could work well, depending on what your party does.
Swashbuckler is relatively front loaded, so you get most of what you want by level seven. So dipping another class for a level or two can be benefisial.Thank you for the input, may I kindly ask how you would build that PC? I am more than a little rusty.
Dex to Damage comes from Slashing Grace.
Slashing Grace is a good feat, but with strength 11 you will do little damage untill you can get it. So it might be a bit tough for the party untill you get that online.
Getting dex to damage early is hard by the way, but its something to take into account. A bad roll will mean your minimum damage will be 1.For my swashbuckler I went with Whirling Dervish
Same problem for waiting untill dex to damage is online, but you save your feats for other fun things, plus scimitar fun.

All in all Christmas was a massive haul for the kids, and a whole lotta nothing for the adults, which is how I prefer it, but not GothBard.
The best gifts were the ones the kids picked out of the REI web site because we had $230 in dividends that were expiring at the beginning of January, so we got to see such Christmas-y gifts as a wet suit for Impus Major ("I always get cold when I go swimming"), a HUGE thermos for Impus Minor ("I'll never have to leave my room again!"), and a multi-tool for Impus Minor ("When would you ever use one of these, Dad?")
Other than mother-in-law's requisite stuff I'm going to throw out before the end of January (one of those credit card multi tools that doesn't actually do ANYTHING useful and a "book lamp" that you clip to a book which would be useful if it worked correctly, but I have my doubts), I did OK: Three pairs of Chefwear from GothBard (including replacement Fish Pants! Hooray!) and an ugly sweater from Shiro that's three sizes too big and that he knows darned well I'll never wear.
GothBard had six things on her shipping list. One arrived, two got lost in shipping, and three were out of stock by the time I tried to order them 3 days after she sent out the list. GothBard has taste.
The Impii made out like bandits, with several "good" gifts each, so it's a quiet weekend.

I've been playing through the parts of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake I either don't remember because they were boring or they added for filler to pad the remake.
It's still a good game but would it really have been so difficult to give me the ability to jump. I see Cloud do it in the cut scenes so we know he can f$%*ing do it. So why the f@#$ won't he do it when I'm controlling him!

Impus Major, overheard in a wonderfully succinct description of the online community at large:
"Yeah, you can be playing League, and you can be jungling with a record of 20-1, and the bot laner will be 0-9 and start swearing at you for ruining their game, then they'll report you for being an incompetent player."
Why I won't play competitive online games in a nutshell. Well put, Impus Major!

Mobas(League/Dota/Hots/etc) are probably simultaneously my most beloved and hated games. The best part is, the person reporting may not necessarily be wrong tactically.

Happy holidays, everyone!
We did xmas, or as I like to call it the gift-orgy, today. I got book money for my sacred scriptures collection, a fancy LotR glass and t-shirt, the first sweatpants I've worn since I don't even know, and a deck of art nouveau tarot cards.
So I am thoroughly gifted-out, sweeted-out, and holidayed-out.
Sorry the season is so rough for you Scavion, your mom sounds like she was a great person.

Well, my Pathfinder group was able to play. Of course, that's because COVID meant no one had family over/traveled to see family. But it was still fun. We killed some bandits, and captured one. After getting all the info we thought we could out of him, we gave him his leather armor, his longbow (with 1 arrow), 20 copper pieces, and a moon radish, and sent him on his way to hopefully make good on his promise to find a village, settle down, and give up banditry. Then we started killing some mites and saved a kobold.

I approve of the last part most of all!

He told us a little about his tribe, then we gave him a moon radish and told him to go home. There was some question about whether or not the horses would let it go as it crawled out of the mite lair. The others were laughing about how the horses might react, so I rolled an attack for my horse, got a 17 to hit for max damage (5), and just said "Got 'em!". Not sure if the GM is going to say that the horse did actually attack and kill the kobold or not. I guess we'll find out when we leave. First, gotta kill more mites.

Sorry the season is so rough for you Scavion, your mom sounds like she was a great person.
I'm good now. Got to my weekend so I get a solid reprieve.
You know whats wild? It's not so much her 20 years of service in the Navy or her career as a surgical technician afterwards that made her great to me. What always amazed me was that my mom was pretty much the #1 PVP'er on her server(Sargeras now but she was on Desolace before the server split) in release World of Warcraft. She was the first caster class(Warlock) on both factions to get the Grand Marshal title and was the defacto leader for the Alliance when it came to organized PVP on the server. The idea of my late 30s into 40s single mom raising 2 kids who worked crazy hours being a nightmare to play against was/is simultaneously awesome/hilarious.
When she stopped playing, I used her account to make my own characters and stuff, but it was wild how many people messaged me when I logged into her character for a minute just to see if she was gonna be playing again.

I don't know, my horse is pretty awesome. And loves moon radishes. So he may kill it for the snack.

*sigh* My PCs continue to cakewalk through book 5 of Strange Aeons. I find myself wishing that Paizo APs had suggestions along the lines of “to make this encounter tougher, add X.” Fiddling with encounters to make proper challenges for a group of experienced players is more than I signed up for.
