Hilariously, he tried it with the U.N. "Hey, we pulled out of this treaty 2 years ago, but now we're invoking this clause and we have every right to do so because I had a lawyer write this 6-page memo as to why we still have standing!"

And the U.N. is pretty much, "Are you high?"

It's just really delightful seeing what passes as corrupt business-as-usual in the U.S. simply hit a brick wall of incredulity when attempted with other foreign powers.

It's like someone didn't tell them how the game is played or something.

Which also just puts into even more context why the Republicans are so gung-ho to breed distrust and hatred of the UN and EU and other countries besides ourselves.

Sorry, man.

Odd - must be banned in the US... O well. All you missed out on was some Fairy Pickle Klezmer.

Sitll don't know what that means!

I'm guessing fairy pickles are made of mushrooms and is German for some reason (because "Klezmer" looks like a German word).

So German fairy pickles made from mushrooms.

Science wins again!

(I am aware this is incorrect. I just don't know what it is. I'm aaaaactually guessing that in real life, it's alcoholic, however, as I associate the word "schnapps" with some sort of Christmas sweets - I don't know if they are or not, it's just where I associated it - and most such things I associate like that which are not specifically known to me are inevitably alcoholic.)

I just finished Deep Sky Derelics.

A neat game of scavenging ancient spaceships for working devices and sellable trash. A weird combo of a tactical and a card game that becomes more and more popular. Think Darkest Dungeon meets Slay The Spire in a retor-futuristic settings.

Music is excellent. Graphics and conversations build a rather grim but humoristic setting. Regretfully, most of loot is crap to be sold with only occasionally useful thing that you will keep for yourself (and later ditch when it gets obsolete after a few levels).

Theoretically the game replay value lies in getting a squad of completely different classes, but I am a bit afraid that without some of things my first squad had and I learned to rely on (primarily powerful AoE attack that Miner can learn midgame) might make a new game tedious.

Sounds neat, actually.

God, I love this training. Not only is it completely unrelated to my job, but it is so well written. Like this quote from the slide I am on now:
"Go over the diagram on site to be sure that has been correctly drawn."

Yep, that's good English.

Or this one, on the next slide:
"... and decide which areas in which potential hazards ..."

I have completed 12 of the 14 lessons. So far, there has really been very little of use in them. And since the next two lessons deal with seafood, I expect that there will nothing of use in them either.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I have two issues with this line:

"... help ensure that seafood is not only tasty and healthful but safe to eat."

First, I feel that there should be a comma before the "but". Maybe I'm wrong about that, though.

Secondly, and this one is not grammatical, but surely if something isn't safe to eat, then it isn't healthful?

That Fallout is like a toothache or an open wound, isn't it? You (plural, including GothBard and probably Shiro too) keep telling how bad it is, and yet you returning and poking it with a stick to see what seeps out of it?

Hello, everyone!

I just got new texts to translate (into English).

The completely unrelated samples posted by grey make me squirm while I try to reverse engineer the original meaning...

I had, in the past, done reverse-engineering of a translation from Polish to English back to Polish so I could correct the errors - because the original author made a lot of direct calques from Polish to English that made no sense in English because idioms, idiomatic expressions, and different grammar.

Oh, but here's a great tip from the lesson on seafood:

"Buy only from reputable sources. Be wary, for example, of vendors selling fish out of the back of their pick-up trucks."

Man, I thought that was how all the best restaurants got their fish!

As someone with experience in the food service industry, perhaps you can explain to me why, as someone who used to set up a hotel's continental breakfast and now puts out granola bars and individually wrapped bagels, needs to know about proper facility design and the creation of a HACCP plan? Because I'm f&##ing stumped.

Oh, and as an example of how well-designed the course was, nowhere - not once -- in the 14 lessons was it mentioned how long someone needs to keep records on any beef they grind, and yet that question was asked twice on the final quiz.

The answer is 1 year, by the way.
