So, my favorite ProtonDB comment so far on whether or not Windows-based Steam games run on Steam's Proton engine for Linux:
"Terrible game. Runs good."
The game (Pacify) was on sale for $3.44. We couldn't possibly resist. Shiro and I bought it instantly.
And OMG. It is a horrible game. It's one of those "jump scare" games where you're wandering around in the pitch blackness with nothing but a flashlight, hearing eerie noises and seeing creepy things, 'til something jumps out at you and kills you.
We could not stop fricking giggling all night.
The animation is terrible. The controls are terrible. The graphics are terrible. The story is terrible. Dying makes you giggle. Shiro's mock screams make you giggle.
It is truly an utter waste of bits.
Best $3.44 I've spent in years. We're going to play again tonight!
(Impus Major desperately wants to livestream us playing. He actually pulled up a chair and had me switch to external speakers just to watch. After the 3rd time I died trying to head-butt the monster to death because you're not allowed to actually use any of the multitude of weapons lying around the house, he said, "Y'know, Dad. I don't think that's a very effective strategy."
I kept trying anyway.)
EDIT: The worst part is that we were having so much fun that we convinced GothBard to pay the full $5 price tag for this gem. She gamely played along with us and we nearly won on our first try, but sheer incompetence and giggling on my part saved the day from salvation.

So. Uh.
... there seems to be a controversy surrounding the upcoming FF7 remake.
... but...
... I mean...
...
...
...
...
... why, tho.
Look, I'm not going to link it. Search it if you really want?
I was informed, just recently, and I am... it's just... what.
Why is this a thing.
wha?

No, no I have not heard anything about this...
People are apparently upset enough and the backlash significant enough that her breasts have been reduced in size (never-mind the fact that the art-style is different, and, honestly, I can't tell) that this "outrage"(?) made its way to the actual company. The guy who did the redesign had to make a public statement that in Dissidia her breasts will be larger and will jiggle (because he does that design work, too).
:I
... why is this a thiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiing.

Yeah.
This is actually quite an old one, and conspiracy theorists hold this is why Paine was in FFX-2, not Lulu(all hail). Tifa remains the most sexualized character in the series, even more so than Lulu(all hail), partially because of her breast size, partially because of the simplicity of her design, but also because IIRC she was the series first actual direct sex icon character. There has been a quiet movement to lower her cup size for a long time now, and I think I last heard from those folks during the FFVII movie.
That said, as I hate FFVII and love Lulu(all hail) with all my heart, I never paid much attention.
Dear God, please let there be a FFX-2 release that rights that most grievous wrong.

Digital boob controversy time!
No Zepplinesque t#%@ on Optimus Prime?
I demand H-cups! Who is to blame,
For decleavaging my video game?!
Digital boob controversy hour!
Sweaty-palmed gamers grumble and glower,
Drawing bottoms and breasts on their Rubik's cubes,
Since there are no more digital boooobs!

I was reading an archeology book from back in the day and the author kept referring to ancient towers around the world as either phallus shaped or having "phallic influences" and it got me thinking about wizards and their habit of building towers.
Makes you wonder what they're overcompensating for.
I read a funny fan theory about that. Because wizards practice so much magic, it warps their environment. One of the side effects is that everything around them is getting stretched out. A wizard's tower was once their cottage growing to impossible heights. Their wizard's staff was their first magic wand, becoming as tall as they are. And it also explains their lack of armour: metal/leather armour keeps getting too big for them, so they prefer cloth. Their robes are just their T-shirt growing until it falls to their ankles, and then they cut it off so they don't trip over it.
It's a silly idea, but it makes sense, in some kind of way.

Like, everything involving it is dumb.
You know where an ethics committee might actually be relevant? At the part where you plant a bomb in a nuclear reactor to “save the planet.”
That. That part. The one encouraging actual terrorism “for good causes.”
(That’s how the game opens; for the record, there is a legitimately good cause, but it’s still a rather highly terrible thing.)
There are so many things an “ethics committee” (again: WHAT?!) can actually legitimately be or do.
And on the other end the art style is different. This is a dumb thing to be upset over. “Oh no, my imaginary waifu looks different in a different art style~!”
Just... wat.
I have seen some legitimate conversations, ranging from promoting body realism (instead of “unrealistic expectations”), to claimants expressing how they feel represented (as their chest size is often not represented as anything other than for comedy in most things) and Tifa feels refreshing. Sure, okay. Both of those are kind of legitimate. But we all know that isn’t what’s actually being fussed about en masse.
As dumb as it is, though, the outrage at the outrage made for a nice distraction from other dumber things. So. I’m just going to claim a lack of moral high ground and move on.

I’m sick and stored and haven’t had anything to eat yet, but supply immature joke about stoneskin/meld with stone and/or polymorph effects or whatever. Look, make your own, I’m too tired.
On a semi-unrelated/semi-related topic, it does make me wonder about an all-“female” species like the Adair of Mass Effect and if that would have an impact on weaponry, melee/ranged combat, architecture and the like, and of so what kind.
Or even, say, a female-dominated culture.
(It feels like the principles of applied force into small areas would be too useful not to specialize in, but I just don’t know if or how that would translate.)
It’s too early and I’m too hungry for this, though.

I can accept the idea of oblivious pajama wizards. The cauldron used to be a cookpot, but they just sort of roll with it.

I have discovered the world of Stardew Valley mods. I am trying to avoid turning the horse into a Ponyta and stick to little quality of life things, but...I might be getting myself addicted again.

I know I would be happier with a litten.

EDIT:
Bumping down for easier reading
Irony: in Age of Mythology everyone has better combat abilities than Norse gods.
I can:
- create a gold mine (that anyone can use)
- burn down a forest (even though I need those)
- temporarily freeze a bunch of enemies (who don't move, but become invincible during this time, just delaying the inevitable)
- summon some weak wolves to attack up to four town centersI mean, this compares to:
- summoning a fire-breathing earth dragon (Chinese)
- summoning meteors from the ever-lovin' sky (Egyptian)
- the ability to open a gate to hell to unleash an unlimited number of danger-dogs that attack and kill everyone in a wide radius (Atlantean)... to name a few.
The kicker is, that thing with the gold mine? Yeah, that's Thor's special ability. I mean: WAT! No Mjolnir?! Bah!
I know, I know, Zeus has the thunderbolt thing, but seriously, reverse the effects! Mjolnir instaslays (or maybe severely weakens, like, say 80% health off) a single titan, or takes 20% off the health of anything else. This seems relatively balanced, and in keeping with his myths, as, though Titans are really big deals, you're going to have to save your Mjolnir to the end game to really do your thing.
Ironically, given my name, the extra resources and resource management effects are actually rather strong tactics to utilize, but you need wood, so burning down a forest is... rough. Especially when you realize that you can't target areas you don't have actual units. So you have to send one or more units to see the forest you want to burn down. Also, I've run through four of the five pantheons so far, and the Norse are (weirdly) the only one of those four not to have the eventual unlock ability to see all units on the map. Why? I don't know.
(Of course, I may be running a glitch version right now, because I have a
castle"hill fort" left, and it's attacking this one town it's next to via arrows-or-whatever, and...
So, in general, I like the idea that every civilization uses its mechanics to run and prioritize differently, but the Norse mechanics are not my favorite. Not only are your builders your warriors (hypothetically a good thing, but in practice partially handicapping your military while building) it also is just a very awkward series of controls for me in general. The flow of each level is so very different that I’m having a hard time adjusting. Pretty fun!

FF7 remake?! I might actually finally get to play this game.
And I'm more than ok with boobs topping out in the "improbable porn star" range, which is what I assume of Tifa's remade boobs, rather than the "outright impossible" range. Especially since I now have two boys at home.
But of course boobs are a huge controversy.
