I didnt sleep too well.

No panic attacks, but I did get woken up at 6 am by my sole remaining staff, who called out today.

Yay.

I sleep naked, lots of people do!

Yep. Tonight my BBEG got Slumber Hexed, failed her save, and the "climactic" battle wasn't.

So yeah, Hold Person or Baleful Polymorph can wreck fights, but they're not spells you can spam, and Hold Person you get a new save on each round.

Slumber Hex makes me sad...

I suppose the easy counter is to give the BBEG a friend who uses their turn to wake the BBEG.

I had one, who had Mage Hand and everything...

...except Impus Minor put his Greater Invisibilitied rogue right next to him so he took 45 points of damage trying to cast a 0-level spell.

That one I chalk up to good tactics.

I had anxiety dreams last night about being forced to go on a snow run with the mowing crews.

After awhile I just kept telling myself "This is silly" until I woke myself up.

I may have just earned the Home Plumbing achievement. My shower diverter broke, so I just replaced it. A quick test was positive. Now to wait and see if it keeps working.

I've gotten a couple more teachers potentially on-board with my extra credit for scholarship applications initiative.

Maybe hearing it from more than just me will get them to, y'know, take advantage.

Hopefully, it's more than just a pipe dream.

I'm having my own plumbing adventures. Apparently sprinklers 1, sprinklers 2, and sprinklers 3 don't correspond to valves 1, 2, and 3, as indicated by:
- Sprinkler 1 going for 10 minutes at the correct time this morning, so at least it's valve 1
- Sprinkler 2 not going at all this morning, so either the wiring is broken or it's not valve 2 or 3 (I ran Sprinkler 2 manually and it worked fine)
- Soak Hose going for 10 minutes instead of 30 minutes this morning, but at the correct time for valve 3, so maybe it's valve 2, maybe the programming doesn't know what it's doing, or maybe gremlins.

Anyway, I just set EVERY valve (1-6) to open Friday morning and I'll see what runs and what doesn't.

Trial and error is fun!

Or make them an elf, a Drow, anything with that heritage, anything other than mobiles with a hint of dragon blood, any sort of an undead, a wisdom caster (still relies on probability), a monkalike, constructed creatures, plants, some fey (I think?), an unseen servant with orders (requires foreknowledge or weird paranoia)... that’s off the top of my head, though there may well be others. This isn’t to say anyone who has trouble with it is wrong - they most certainly are not! - but merely to add to the list of potentially easy counters.

A short tirade
- There are "good" dog owners who clean up after their dogs.
- Then there are "bad" dog owners who just leave the mess on the sidewalk or whatever.
- And then there are the complete a$$hats who don't want to waste plastic bags, so they just pick up their dog's business and put it, unwrapped, into the nearest green waste container.

We got hit at some point last week, and our green waste container now smells so bad that I can't even keep it in the side yard (hot days so I want to open the bedroom windows), and it's now banished to the back of the back yard until the smell wears off.

Seriously, if you want to own a dog, then take responsibility for it.

You don't see me throwing my cat's litter into other people's garbage.

Makes sense to me! As I said, any who have trouble with it aren't wrong; it's just that there are a large number of potential counters for more free-form play.

(Also, editing APs, but you start running into "how much to mod" at that point, and, honestly, I don't wanna put in that much work, so why would anyone else?)

Also, I'm running a very, very, very short PbP on DaWtL (the Discord FaWtL) and am mentioning it here so that anyone here can join.

The short version:

- choose a CR 7-8 monster from the bestiary; you'll probably have those abilities eventually, maybe

- choose a race (I have a list in DaWtL)

- choose a commoner-esque class (adept, expert, magewright, warrior), you've got all 11s, but can "buy" (based on points) up or down, get your racials, and a few other benefits noted in DaWtL: aim to "imitate" your monster

- you've been missing for 16 years, but are both an adult yet youthful, and have no memory of events within that time, though you know the gist of current events

After this, I'm dumping all the responsibility on Syrus, unless he doesn't want it! (Which is fine.)

LOL. My guess is that it isn't *quite* that disgusting -- they probably have a bag, they just reuse it. Which isn't quite as bad...

...and keep in mind that this is a neighborhood where we all know each other, and it's not uncommon to get a timid knock on the door the day before garbage day with a neighbor asking, "Hey, I have a lot of extra garbage this week. Is it OK if I use some of your space?"

So the worst part is that the perpetrator is clearly not even someone who lives on this block.

I object to dog poop imports!

So, what's wrong with the unbreakable, cut-inducing plastic packaging in which they encase all computer accessories these days?

Impus Minor ordered a wrist rest. It arrived today in one of those unbreakable plastic packages, so I cut it open for him...
...except there was an attached mouse pad that did not suffer being cut in half all that well.

Ah, well, it was a $7 mistake.

But the whole idea that everything has to be encased in this plastic that you can't possibly tear open, and have to cut, is just bound to cause such issues.

GothBard's session last night was SUCH an example of why Pathfinder 2.0 (or at least a rewrite of Pathfinder 1.0's rules) was so necessary: SOOOOOO many exceptions...

GothBard: So last night we walked into a room, and there was a banshee, and it wailed at us during the surprise round...
NobodysHome: It shouldn't have been able to do that. A banshee's wail is a full-round action (exception to the 'everything is a standard action' rule).
GB: So anyway, we were able to save one of the dead PCs using Breath of Life...
NH: Breath of Life doesn't work on a banshee's wail because it's a death effect (exception to allowing a spell to work in a standard, expected manner)...

And so on. I'm surprised the party didn't cast Silence only to learn about the banshee's ability to bypass Silence spells (exception to a spell specifically designed to protect you from sonic effects).

If you're writing up a rule set, don't add exceptions, especially for single monsters. It's what made Pathfinder 1.0 such a nightmare to GM/play in.

Set some rules, live within them. Shouldn't be that hard...

On the other hand, that's also what made it exciting to encounter new monsters, as your usual tactics might not work and you have to adapt to a new normal. And if you think 2E doesn't have the same setup, you might be in for a surprise when a new monster reacts to your attack with a surprise.

after the...unpleasantness...with a certain player who shall not be named after simply reskinning one monster and given character class to another during combat, it is important to have monsters that cannot be yawned through with a single spell or tactic.
