odds that it sticks to 'celebrity designer' if the game tanks (for any reason)?

I would guess public distancing from the celebrity developer (or further throwing of the in-house dev team under the bus), but the media would still probably tie them back to it.

Odds that I forgot to put on clothes?

The closest thing that comes to mind is the 38 Studios fiasco with all of its big names and less than optimal output.

38 Studios had issues far beyond something like what NH described.

Truth.

But it was the example of celebrities dipping into game design that came to mind for me when I asked if any negative fallout could adhere.

The real question is - since this person is being lauded for all the good that can possibly come from this game...do they also get credit for all the bad that can possibly come from this game? Can you have one type of attribution without the other?

Mostly I just don't want to work.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

That question depends on who's spin machine is working better. The guest dev will try to claim all the good things and not mention the bad. When the gamers start yelling about the bad aspects, the guest dev will remain silent as long as possible. Eventually you'll get a "I didn't work on that aspect of the game" statement. And then anonymously sourced statements will leak from the game studio...

And then it really will come down to who the gaming public believes.

So, I saw it throughout my academic career, then I started seeing it in reality TV, then I started seeing it in the gaming industry, then I started seeing it in our politicians:
- "Everything good that happens is because of something that I did"
- "Everything bad that happens is someone else's fault"

And it has sickened me for the 30-odd years that I've been aware of it that people let such a*****s get away with it.

So I vent.

And GothBard was cute.

I had preregistered for the game because GothBard sounded so enthused when she told me about her work on it, and now I am much less interested. I guess I'm going to play it anyway, because it's her hard work, regardless of who gets the credit, but that is low.

The aunt on the General's side of the family that previously told Crookshanks she'd "Have to cut her hair if she wanted to have kids" decided she'd have another go at Crookshanks (because evidently she didn't learn from her first experience) and asked Crookshanks what she was planning to go to college for, and Crookshanks replied honestly "I'm not planning on going to college, I want to learn a skilled trade like carpentry or something" so the aunt says "but, don't you want to be successful?" Crookshanks shoots back "my dad's really successful and HE never went to college" so the aunt says "Yeah, but don't you want to make money?" By this time you can see the steam rising from her ears and Crookshanks says "He makes more money than you, hag!" And stomps out. The aunt, looking at us, shocked, says "What!?!" So I reply "It's true, you are a hag, also I DO make more money than you" at which point the General's mom couldn't contain her laughter anymore.

OK, fair clarification: GothBard, being a sensible woman, complained to her manager. And he admitted that the rest of the team was pretty peeved, too, but they shouldn't blame the "designer" because Marketing had told her to say those things.

But the "designer" at least knew full well that she hadn't designed the game; she just accepted money to SAY that she did.

Er, is that really any better?

Marketing should be less concerned about the design and more concerned about how often it crashes. It's still a little buggy.
