Haven't seen CH or Bitter Thorn in ages (BT hadn't posted since January 2017), though CH is occasionally active on facebook. He also occasionally comments/likes my blog posts via patreon.

Oh, we've been warned many, many times about the queue for the Louvre.

But I spent 2 days in it in 1987, 1 day in it in 1997, and no one's really enthused to try it in this trip because of the lines.

Instead, I will suffer the stereotypical pain of my wife wanting to shop along the Champs Elyssees. Fortunately, she has self-control; she just likes to look at all the stuff.

LOLOL. We have to get back from the trip, then Shiro, GothBard, and I will combine all 5 sets of photos from all 5 people and create an album. That works out to... mid-August.

At least it'll be a surprise, as you'll have forgotten it by then. :P

(And according to LM Shiro is updating his Facebook with photos, so I may be able to link to some of them sooner.)

I bought a 900 ml box of ice cream.

I served myself a modest portion and ate it.

Of course, as a responsible adult I decided there is no point in letting it freeze in the freezer, and the fridge is not cold enough to store it for later so I proceeded to eat the other half of the ice cream, solving the problem of storing it without risking a waste or inefficiency.

I like Facebook. There are pictures of friends with artificial old people faces, a surprising amount of old weaponry, semi-informed political rants, and adverts for exciting things like clairvoyancy classes, miracle oat diets, super compensation for everything and tactical pants.

Everywhere there are tactical pants.

I’m in the no Facebook camp. I tried it. It was.... well, I’m pretty sure disaster is the right word here. It caused no end of stress and ended some real world friendships because I have no idea, but it was some kind of thrice-damned NT nonsense involving social ‘rules’ that no one ever explains. (You know what you did! Ummmm..........no? If I knew I wouldn’t be asking? >.<)
I like twitter though. I mean, it’s a dumpster fire, but it’s aware of the fact. Also it’s even more cliquish, which oddly helped once I found the right group of my fellow awkweird oddballs. ;)

Also no Facebook for me. It sounded slightly creepy when it first arrived, plus I was annoyed when people had pushed me to join LiveJournal and then all abandoned it, and I wasn't going to do the same thing with the next fad that was apt to die in a year or two *cough*. (Sometimes I think if I'd joined Facebook, it would have died, and it is therefore my fault the world is the way it is. I'm extraordinarily sorry, but I'm still not joining Facebook).

If I ever considered it at all, that consideration disintegrated when news of hacks, fake news, and privacy invasion all came one after another. I know few social media platforms are much different (and I in fact at this point use none), but the hugeness of it is especially offputting.

Also off putting are the friends and relatives talking about "how easy it is to keep in touch," where "keeping in touch" is in reality passively reading someone else's posts and maybe hitting the like button. That isn't meaningful to me. If people want to keep in touch with me specifically, they will make the effort of emailing or texting me (which takes literally as much time to do as logging into Facebook and posting, and are equally free no matter the distance). If they are just hoping I happen along and read their post, that isn't truly keeping in touch and it isn't building a meaningful connection. Likewise I know myself: I know if I really want to connect with someone, I will do so, likely 1:1 in a format where we can have a private conversation. And sure, I often have good intentions to contact someone and forget/fail to, but posting on social media does not replace nor fulfill that intention. All stuff like that does, for me personally, is create an illusion of connection that is ultimately dissatisfying.

I used to use Twitter to easily follow the activities of writers and actors I liked, and follow easy news/police/public transit updates from social service feeds. And yes, sometimes exchange thoughts/ideas/jokes with the few friends and acquaintances who also used the service. But first, I ended up, through a really bizarre story involving mistaken identity, getting stalked by a creepy weirdo and had to make my feed private (not that getting stalked by a creepy weirdo is unusual on the Internet even when your identity is not mistaken; this just made it more bizarre). Then, I noticed how increasingly toxic it was getting and how much I spent so much time just reporting jerks more than actually reading stuff I liked. Finally, as Twitter kept "improving" the service in such a way that it was becoming increasingly IMPOSSIBLE to read my feed the way I wanted to (in other words, get a simple chronological feed of the posts of those I followed, without filtration or omission), I decided it was becoming increasingly useless and deleted my account. (Seriously, the algorithm was truly freaking bizarre. At one point, for example, I liked *one* post of Crystal Frasier's, and my feed suddenly became nearly everything Crystal or one of HER followed- or followers' tweets, but it was hiding from my view posts from people like, say, my own sister. And, I mean, Crystal's great, but I'd like to not have my sister's posts hidden from me just because Twitter insists I really want to just read posts by some lady I vaguely know from the Internet.) I thought I might miss it, but I don't at all. The two or three celebrity-esque feeds I'm interested in (like Gail Simone's) I can still look up online when I feel like it. And I can always text my sister. :)
