So, this guy harassed me while riding the bus yesterday. Called me a pussy for carrying an umbrella. It was difficult restraining myself from shoving said umbrella sown his throat.

I have only ever seen that in my culture from some particularly backwards, backwater individuals.

Unfortunately, I need to wait 2.5 hours for my room to be available. A little irritated at the hotel for that. May go get my badge while waiting, but damn I need a shower and a nap.

Sheesh. Come to the Bay Area. You'll get yelled at by random homeless people for random offenses no matter what you do. Learning to ignore them is a necessary survival mechanism around here.

Well, I've printed out somewhere between half a pound and a pound (225-450g) of paperwork, done my preliminary packing, weighed in my suitcase, gotten everyone else started packing, and verified we don't seem to need anything else.
I also ordered 800 GB of memory for my camera, putting it just below my Mac Mini.

Yeah, he just had to show them his driver's license to prove he lived here and explained where we were, and the cops were pissed at the false alarm but didn't give him a hard time.

With the possible exception of Swedish metalheads.
Anyway, I think I've mentioned it before, but gods this generation of kids gives me hope for the future... just have to wait for all the baby boomers to kick the bucket.
So, Impus Major told Offensive Boy that he was on the "soon to be banned" list.
And he came to me, apologized, and asked whether there was anything else he was doing that had bothered me outside of the Nerf incident. I told him honestly that he had threatened my wife and not backed down. He nodded. tracked her down, and apologized to her as well.
And he's the worst of the lot!
We really have a great future!
Just have to survive long enough for them to take over.

I found a hilarious list of how foreigners recognize traveling 'Merikuns, and I was tickled by two things:
(1) White socks were on the list
(2) Waving wasn't.
We were goofing around in San Francisco a while back and met a charming young Frenchwoman. She said that one of her favorite things to do in Paris was to stand on the bridges and wave at the boats, because only Americans were silly enough to wave back.
So when we went to Europe in 1997 we met up with her, went onto the bridges, and sure enough, you could typically tell 'Merikuns by their garb, but wave at a boatload of tourists and you can catch all the 'Merikuns dead to rights.

Wish more people around here could see things that way. I'm really tired of hearing how terrible this generation is (plus, y'know, the fact that they're still griping about Millennials being everything that's wrong with the world and how we're all in for a rude awakening when we "grow up" as if we're still the younger kids running about and just barely getting into high school and college ages, when most of us are in our 30s or even nearing 40) and how much things need to get fastened securely into the BB's standards so they don't "slip away" when they die.

OK. Shiro's mother is just plain delightful.
After yesterday's quake (look at a map -- it hit the desert something awful, and was otherwise 100+ miles from nowhere) she called him to make sure he was OK. He told her he hadn't even felt it.
After today's quake she called again, we'd completely missed it again, and she was practically offended that we were taking it so casually, because Shiro's niece had felt it all the way in Las Vegas.
Er... yeah. It was about equidistant from L.A. and Vegas, but still hundreds of miles south of us.
Ah, well. It'll be just our luck that a big one hits around here while we're in Europe.
