That sucks. Sorry to hear that, and I hope you can find some way to have it brought down to something more reasonable.

Anything further I could say unfortunately falls behind the politics ban.

The problem players I have ranted about on multiple prior occasions just returned to our NWN server.

Their old friends are saying "it's been 3 years, people change, give them a chance" but maybe I'm too cynical or too unforgiving but I'm already expecting the worst.

Does your state require children to pay parents medical bills? Did your mother leave any estate that should be used to pay them first?

For what it's worth, people DO change, I've seen it.

Not that your skepticism isn't warranted, as it generally takes longer than three years, but it doesn't hurt to give them another try. :-)

Now that Crookshanks is getting older she's starting to see how limited her relative's small town perspective really is, and she's grateful for growing up in the city.

Country (girl) cousin: I'm going to college to be a lawyer!

Crookshanks: What kind of lawyer?

Country cousin: Just a lawyer!

Crookshanks: There's all sorts of different types of law to specialize in!

Country cousin: We don't need anything like that here!

Keep in mind, this is a 19 year old she's talking to.

This article contains a list of states with filial responsibility laws on the active books.

Tennessee is on the list, fun. Going to be unfortunate to be my sister in a few years (decades, hopefully) as she's the only one not moving out of state.

There is no thought whatsoever on if there's another way.

No, motorized or otherwise. They're all in Texas, it's all either pickup trucks, horses, or both.

*SIGH*

If you really want to know why California drivers are so bad, look no farther than the DMV.

Impus Major has:
- No formal driving instruction at all
- ONE read-through of the DMV manual about a month ago
- Advice from his dad to, "Just choose whichever answer sounds 'safest' and you'll pass."
- Less than 20 minutes grand total behind the wheel.

And Impus Major passed the exam with flying colors and now has a learner's permit.

Way to prove you really don't care, DMV! Nice job!

To be fair, that's about what I had to go through here for a learner's permit.

Getting a full license was a it more involved, requiring over 100 hours behind the wheel before you could even go in to be tested, and a much longer computerized test (Though the whole "pick the safest sounding answer" trick probably would still work) followed by a 30-minute live driving exam. I'd presume it's similar out there? Or is it just as easy to get a license as it is to get the permit?

(1) There is NO time requirement; I could quite literally take him back to the DMV this afternoon and have him test for his license.

(2) The written exam is identical, so he'd pass it again.
(3) The *only* thing stopping him is the behind-the-wheel test, and they're at least somewhat stringent in that regard, because I think the testers know that they're the only thing standing between the current idiocy and complete anarchy.

But I'm betting I could train him to pass that test in under 10 hours behind the wheel. It's really not that stringent...

same here.

But passing the actual test can be a nightmare.

Scarab Sages

I failed my first exam. I passed the written portion, but the behind the wheel test was when the schools let out. Huge groups of teenagers on bikes... yeah, they can be the ones causing the dangerous situation, but as a driver, you're still responsible.

My second time was the middle of the day, so traffic was light. So I passed with flying colors.

"Pick the safest-sounding answer" is how I pass my company's annual safety tests after blindly clicking through the training slides while reading FATWL.

Meanwhile, in Michigan, kiddo has been signed up for drivers training and we have to spend nearly three hundred dollars on round one of driving classes, then learners permit, then at least three months of logging supervised driving hours, then round two of driving classes (thankfully shorter and less expensive than round one), then limited license .....and then after many much fees and time spent waiting in line at the secretary of state (our version of the DMV) the kiddo will have a license. Takes at least a year to get through the whole process. And no, it actually doesn't improve road safety as much as one might hope, but well....they tried.....

In fairness, I was 23 when I took my driving test.

I wondered if Once Upon a Time was worth watching. Now I'll probably skip it. I did recently restart watching Lost Girl. Never finished before, but thought I'd go from the beginning instead of trying to figure out where I had left off.
