Pokémon Go:
A couple (in both primary senses of the word) of Irish friends are getting in to Pokémon Go, and have hit the point where they need three friends for the Celebi quest. They've shared their friend codes, if anyone wants to add them. :) 8180 2299 3191 & 2111 8184 8501

I really shouldn't be nekkid while playing Pokémon Go.

Well, I'll prolly get flak for this, because your feelings are valid and Mort has a history of being overly literal/blunt/negative at inopportune times but I'd bet my last dollar Mort wasn't doing it on purpose.

It can be hard in social situations when your mind doesn't work quite like others and you put your foot in your mouth in awkward ways, and I suspect Mort didn't even realize the impact of her words until your response.

Once again, your feelings are valid. I just feel the need to stand up for Mort as I detect no malice in her ramblings and sometimes those who seem cold and unfeeling are anything but.

No flak. You're completely right. LM is in a very stressful situation right now and Mort, not maliciously, said the wrong thing at the wrong time. We've all done it. Most of us have been on both sides of that equation at one time or another.

From what LM wrote, I believe she knows it wasn't intentionally hurtful as well. Again, just bad timing and high stress.

Give LM some time (it's the end of the school year, everything else going on) and this will blow over.

I dig it.

So, I love working with contractors who take their job seriously and do a good job, and going out of my way to be friendly and helpful towards them.

So, my expectation was that even though we were getting solar with enough extra power to get an electric car, I wouldn't be able to afford one for a year or two thanks to the costs of the work we're putting into the house.

Well, it turns out that Honda has a nice 5-seat electric car with a range of 89 miles (just enough to get to Fremont and back) for $1800 down, $200 a month. Which is within my means.

Meaning I needed to contact the electrician who did our panel for the solar work and say, "Hey, by the way, how much is it to put in a car charger?"

Considering we got along really well and the work should be mindlessly simple, I'm hoping the answer is, "Affordable! And I can do it next week if you need!"

Fingers crossed...

And this is where geographical differences make all the difference in the world.

I could use that just for going to the office and back for about two weeks per full charge. That's perfectly fine.

Aiymi, in the other hand, would have to have 100% battery efficiency for that 89 miles to get her to the office and back once. And there is nowhere to charge an EV anywhere near her office.

Where my mother lives? No chance. She'd use half the effective range on a single grocery trip.

This is pretty much why the middle of the US isn't grabbing on to the EV as quickly. Until a truly affordable EV has at least a 300 mile range and can be charged in the same amount of time as it takes to fill a tank of gas, AND can be taken to a local service center, middle America is going to largely ignore EVs as impractical. Chevy is closest to this, but the charge time is still an issue.

They're great in 100k+ population centers.

On a random note I really like the Eberron setting, I'm sad it hasn't really gotten 5th ed support.

When Pathfinder 2.0 comes out I should set my first game there.

SHAFT

I whipped up a small dungeon, and started it on Sunday with Mrs Sunrise and a few friends.

And man, D&D combats always take longer than I expect. The first room was a fight with a moderate number of goons -- not exactly a trash fight, but not a momentous throwdown either. That and chargen was all we managed in like five hours of time.

Of course it didn't help that the party decided to flee in two different directions, and the youngest player actually made it out of the first encounter room, thru two closed doors, and into a dozen more goons.

I like using slang from widely different time periods, cause I find it super funny. I have noticed anything before 50s slag is often unrecognizable to many though, still I want to learn slang from the 1800s and before next for maximum unintelligibility.

Or maybe use whatever slang the main character from a Clockwork Orange uses. =D

Extremely easy. Especially if you don't care about the safety of the guitar player. And let's be honest, guitar players don't deserve safety.

"He just needs the token for two factor authentication. He's done all the other setup for his home office."

Ok, no problem. Give him a call.

Me: "I need your remote ID so I can send this to you."

User: "I'm not in the office."

Me: "Yeah, but the machine you're using at home...that machine's remote ID..."

User: "Tonya will have it..."

Me: "No, all you need to do is pull up the remote software and it will tell you the ID."

User: "Oh...ok...um..."

3 minutes pass

Me: "Are you not finding the software?"

User: "I had to turn on the computer. Bear with me."

Another 2 minutes pass

User: "Ok, I found the software, but it doesn't have an ID and it says it cannot find an internet connection."

Me: "That means you don't have internet to that computer. Are you using it wired or wireless?"

User: "I think the cord is the problem. Hang on."

10 minutes of listening to him seemingly plugging and unplugging things at random.

User: "Can I call you back in a few minutes?"

*sigh*

The Sound of Silence
Maybe it's just because I have an obscene Perception roll, but it always amazes me just how much difficulty people have with the notion of "silence". As in, "I'm recording a demo right now, so I need you guys to be absolutely silent. Understand?"
"Yes."
Door opens and closes with a bang.
Toilet flushes
Refrigerator opens and closes

And every time I call them on it, they say, "Oh, whoops! Was that too noisy?"

And it's not just them. When I'm chaperoning on trips and the conductor asks for silence, the parents in the back think that that means that it's OK for them to continue their conversations in a whisper.

It's just mind-bogglingly aggravating. "If YOU can hear it, then it's NOT silence!"

I finally had to give up and wait for the kids to leave before I could record. And it's only a 2-minute recording. Seriously. "Sit still and do nothing for 2 minutes," just doesn't seem like too much to ask.

But apparently it is.
