Lorm concept art, anyone remembers those guys anyway?

Well, that is perfectly fitting for those are drawings of a naked lorm of indeterminate gender (they have internal reproductive organs and little sexual dimorphism to speak of, they recognize their sex by smell and very subtle differences in their skin texture, nostrils, and eye shape).

Well, I'm still holding out hope for Whingey Wizzard, I've gotten plenty of jobs after I thought I wouldn't get them.

As have I.

For my last job I went through the interviews, then HR lost my application and resume twice, the manager didn't want to hire me but the director did, and eventually the manager quit over the decision to hire me. It was about 3-4 months of trying to find out where I stood on getting that job after going through the interviews.

For this job the HR screener decided not to even talk to me for the position. Several months later the person I was intended to replace found my resume and wondered why I hadn't been called yet. Three interviews later and I had the job.

Clocking out for today. Have a good evening, everyone.

The side profile view makes me think of The Dark Crystal. Like a truncated form of the Mystics.

Ah, the stuff Dev can get away with.

"Ticket Type = I don't know"

Hmm... that doesn't show up as an option for ME!

Have you got a Dev named Dov?

I'm going to call the new guys mowing Rocko & Skinny Jeans.

I'll be very disappointed if they aren't a crime fighting duo by the end of the season.

If I could get Devs named Dav, Dov, and Donnie I'd hire 'em on the spot...

Seen a couple players like that. You might mention it to the local organizer so they are aware of the player causing bad feelings.

We had a player at Phoenix Comicon sit out the final encounter, eating his lunch and not responding to anyone at the table. As far as I know, we've never seen him again.

wow. I had heard of this before but never witnessed it. I wonder what happened?

Mystics, not Skeksis. And they are much less threatening, they are more of a turtle-sloths. And I don't doodle that bad (or that good) for them to be scary.

Meanwhile, we're still waiting to hear whether or not The Job is happening. They were supposed to tell him by the end of last week.

Narrative Causality means this is when it really ought to happen, right?

I am sorry to say but at this point of time I would probably have given up on hoping that WW gets the job, because the company is being tardy about it. If they want someone, they should move their sorry @rses faster. I think it is better not to be so hopeful lest you get your hopes up in vain.

It's probably why I get cynical. Or I prefer to view myself as being a realist.

Mort, I know you're insensitive and clueless, but just for once, can you just effing not?

Yes, I damned well know that this will most likely be the latest in a long, long line of no. I've been supporting us/him/our family since before you were old enough to read, I am intimately familiar with failure and a lack of hope, I don't need you to point it out, thanks.

Well, I'll prolly get flak for this, because your feelings are valid and Mort has a history of being overly literal/blunt/negative at inopportune times but I'd bet my last dollar Mort wasn't doing it on purpose.

It can be hard in social situations when your mind doesn't work quite like others and you put your foot in your mouth in awkward ways, and I suspect Mort didn't even realize the impact of her words until your response.

Once again, your feelings are valid. I just feel the need to stand up for Mort as I detect no malice in her ramblings and sometimes those who seem cold and unfeeling are anything but.

It's the internet. If we didn't occasionally step on each other's toes, the universe would implode.

On a lighter note, after GothBard's trip to Portugal last year using (and raving about) borrowed luggage, we decided to buy new luggage for the first time in 18 years. And yeah, most of our luggage was "Target special" so it's not like it was fantastic stuff. Even my Tumi set (our most recent purchase) is heavy and unwieldy, so we decided to buy a set that matched what she'd used for Portugal as closely as possible.

And things went the way I like them to go. We went to an old brick-and-mortar shop in downtown Berkeley that's been there since the 60s. About the only hiccup in the plan was that the sales guy just honestly didn't seem to care AT ALL whether or not we bought anything. I mean, I asked, "I have two teenagers I'm taking to Europe. What luggage will survive them?" and he immediately responded, "Samsonite", but other than that he didn't provide any guidance, or recommendations, or anything else. He just sat there and let us shop and choose.

So, I like low-key sales, but this guy took it WAAAAY too far.

On the other hand, once we'd chosen the luggage, we emptied his inventory (all of two full-sized bags and one checked bag) and he perked up quite a bit. I prefer brick-and-mortar so I even asked him when his next shipment would be coming in, he said he wouldn't get any more of that stuff until late June (seriously? A brick-and-mortar store that can't do a special order for you?), so once I got home I did Amazon for the other two full-size and the other carry-on. (I don't do carry-on at all, and one should be plenty for both kids.)

And I was delighted to find out that the price difference between the brick-and-mortar store and Amazon was all of $30.

So... supported a local business, and didn't lose hundreds of dollars doing it. Good day!

Plus actual decent luggage! That's a first!

I went to the museum today, and saw an ex across the hall. I thought about going over and saying "Hi", but couldn't. There was just too much history between us.

My wife told me to put ketchup on the shopping list, so I did. Now she's mad because she can't read it anymore.

History is the story of dead people and past misdeeds.

No flak. You're completely right. LM is in a very stressful situation right now and Mort, not maliciously, said the wrong thing at the wrong time. We've all done it. Most of us have been on both sides of that equation at one time or another.

From what LM wrote, I believe she knows it wasn't intentionally hurtful as well. Again, just bad timing and high stress.

Give LM some time (it's the end of the school year, everything else going on) and this will blow over.

So, I love working with contractors who take their job seriously and do a good job, and going out of my way to be friendly and helpful towards them.

So, my expectation was that even though we were getting solar with enough extra power to get an electric car, I wouldn't be able to afford one for a year or two thanks to the costs of the work we're putting into the house.

Well, it turns out that Honda has a nice 5-seat electric car with a range of 89 miles (just enough to get to Fremont and back) for $1800 down, $200 a month. Which is within my means.

Meaning I needed to contact the electrician who did our panel for the solar work and say, "Hey, by the way, how much is it to put in a car charger?"

Considering we got along really well and the work should be mindlessly simple, I'm hoping the answer is, "Affordable! And I can do it next week if you need!"

Fingers crossed...

I'm all done with cutting which means all I'm doing for the rest of the day is driving.

And asking the mechanic how hard it would be to weld a platform to the top of our trailer for the flame spouting guitar player we now need.

Made a new thumb splint for myself. The cloth one was a pain because I had to take it off every time I needed to wash my hands and I couldn’t use it at all while cooking, but my thumb doesn’t suddenly become stable just because I’m doing messy stuff. :P So I made this one out of wire. It looks cool enough, if a bit over the top. Hopefully it will also work well

Went to the zoo for mother’s day. More walking than I should do in a week all in one day, but the animals were cute and it was a welcome distraction. I have complicated feelings about that holiday. And then we went to a really good Mexican restaurant. Yesterday I pretty much stayed in bed aside from the school run because ow. But this morning my husband took me to a new restaurant for breakfast and there were gluten free cinnamon rolls that tasted so much like Cinnabon and it was glorious. ^.^

So to sum up, ‘everything hurts and I’m dying’, but cute animals and good food, so... eh, I can work with that! ;)
