It's cold this weekend, which is annoying, but whatever, I don't start until Tuesday.

Did I mention I start building again Tuesday, I was so excited I bought a new rubber mallet.

Turns out co-worker was so excited he bought a new hammer.

We're stone nerds.

Edit: Oops, I was so excited I forgot about safety! *Puts on safety glasses*

I even put the heating back on in the house as it was starting to get uncomfortable when I was sitting down to do some reading.

Weather doesnt know what it wants. First it was nice and sunny, then suddenly, a hailstorm.

I don't know if I've already mentioned, but my dad's car got hit badly by a hailstorm either this last week or the one before. Look, I'm not good at this newfangled "time" thing, okay?!

It's now a highly dimpled (still functioning) vehicle.

Their screen porch, on the other hand...

(Unfortunately, "screen porches" are not covered by their warranty, for... reasons. >:I)

Ugh, the General and kids are planning a Harry Potter marathon.

This is why having multiple TV and DVD players are essential.

Also, The Awesomes on DVD.

Yesterday, we had a Welcome To Our Lovely New Office party at work. It was alright, though there was nothing to drink bar lager, pop and wine; one of the production gents sung popular songs very well, and ALL (DE) came along. She stayed over; today we had to go and give her car an MOT (no idea what this is called in other countries - it's a sort of statutory inspection you have to have done to prove your vehicle is roadworthy), as she'd been driving around illegally for some time on account of the fact that she'd forgotten about it.

The car was fine, anyway, and while we were waiting for the mechanic to have done, we had one of those glorious English breakfasts that mean you don't really need to eat for several days afterwards (and there was a bigger one on the menu, too), then went for a walk and bought some compost.

After that, she went home, and I played the guitar and French horn, then did some exercise and read 'The Green Odyssey' by Philip Jose Farmer, which was pretty good.

Your MOT sounds like what we call APK

In Cali, you have to get your car "smogged" (it has to pass an emissions test), but in Texas, they just refer to it as "Inspection".

We have emissions tests but hardly ever.

In fact, I can't remember the last time we had our car tested.

I suspect it's just used as a way to keep poor people down in Milwaukee (which is the only thing government is used for in Milwaukee).

Finally got my [lengthy string of expletives redacted] taxes filed. We've gone from getting a few thousand back each year to getting less than one thousand back, every single penny of which will go to my mother-in-law as the first installment of our debt repayment to her.
I'm really ticked at TurboTax. I've used it for years, and it used to be good, fast, and cheap. Like all companies with virtually no competition, they've gotten progressively less efficient and more expensive, and I'm really tempted to return to pen-and-paper filing for next year.
But, it's done. And with the cross-country move, and the change in employment for both of us, and his Lyft income, and changes in health insurance for all of us, it was a tedious process. I just wish I could feel like I had something to show for all the time I put into it this year.

I've been busy with numerous baking experiments and wondering how a commercial pizza has like 324 kcal, but 27.5 g of protein in it. I ran my pizza recipe through Nutrition calculator, but only ran about 15g protein through 300+kcal. Grrrr. What exactly did I do wrong?

I think I was supposed to use skim mozarella but I don't believe in skim stuff. Also my chicken drumsticks shouldn't have skin on etc...

And don't get me to cut down on cheese, I like cheese =P

I guess I could use soya bean oil to grease the pan instead of butter(since its liquid I should be able to use less of it) and switch to whole meal flour, but whole meal flour is expensive and probably can't be used for baking cakes.

I just learnt a lesson today. Do NOT attempt to swim and rock climb on the same day. The pool was warm and my swim was uninspired. Usually I will alternate one butterfly style lap but I had difficulty executing them today, and I had to stop for breaks every 2 laps. (Normally I swim continuously the full 10 laps)

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I would of liked a real cold pool after a climb.

Yeah that was what I thought too. Cold pool(since it's raining but no lightning) , non weight bearing...

Unfortunately the pool was warm(because the week was hot), which sapped my energy and I suspect that my arms just didn't have much energy for proper swim strokes(especially butterfly which requires quite some upperbody work).

Butterfly stroke is even more efficient for heating your body up during your first lap then kitty paddling.

Breast stroke was still executable but freestyle was rather taxing.
