Freehold and Mort, shield your eyes.

Mathies of FAWTL, I could use a double-check. I've been mathing out the generalized gain function of a simple low-pass LC filter, and I think I keep missing some mistake I've made. Because the function I've come to implies that there is a frequency which results in the circuit producing an infinite gain. Which is of course impossible, practically speaking.

Cookies for everyone willing to entertain this little obsession.

Freehold, replace “Japan” with “in almost every country in which cooking women wear aprons” - I don’t even look for stuff like that and I’m aware it’s a “thing”...

oh?

I have yet to see if displayed as a prominent, unique fetish elsewhere where they were not emulating what I have seen in Japan. Can you give me some examples?

I dunno, like... look for it? I mean, like, it’s been a thing since I was a kid and wasn’t even fully aware of what such things were (adults chatting and laughing about such) in Europe, US, and Asia (and note: I have never been to Japan, this vastly predates the Internet, and “tentacles” was never a concept associated with sexuality).

Japan May have enshrined it, but they do that to, like, everything.

R&B singers, Russian art, most definitely one of those 80s movies cy doesn’t care for (I think it had John Candy?), whatever - the fetish is built out of the idealization of domesticity and it’s conflation with femininity; the apron-thing is only one of its expressions, but it’s pretty widespread. Saying, “it’s a fetish in Japan” is like saying, “capitalism is big in Japan” - yeah, sure, but it comes from somewhere else and was adopted and stylized there. Japan does that, like, all the time. (And

Other places may now be picking stuff up, but that’s just because Japan is good at fetishization.

hm.

I will research.

puts sex research hat on, fires up internet

The game is afoot.

No, not that kind of fetish. We're looking up apron fetishes here.

takes off hat

Hmm.

** spoiler omitted **...

And now you all know what to get Freehold for his fortieth birthday in eight days!

Milkmaids in aprons, jumping out of cake! And a trip to Japan, for (cough) "research" purposes!

I do need to see the life size gundam before I die. I intend to have my ashes scattered there when I do.

A trip to soapland would not be looked down upon either.

According to a quick Google search on low-pass filters, the bottom should be /sqrt(xL^2 + xC^2), so I'd check your formula first; your math looks fine.

EDIT: And don't forget you CAN end up with infinite situations in electronics on occasion; they're called short-circuits and can be quite spectacular!

Also, as I understand it, filters only work with frequencies. Gain is used in amplifiers.

Thanks, but I've been over wikipedia and a hundred other net sources. Using the square-rooted denominator ends in a high-pass filter, it's one of the several attempts I made at solving this thing.

Ha, true. I suppose so long as none of the harmonics to be filtered hit that spectacular frequency, I oughtta be safe from short circuits...

(Wiring breadboard circuits in an electrical class, I did experience a short circuit one time. That plastic jacketing makes quite a smokey reek when it melts!)

Mom. Fifth bout. Breast cancer that spread to the right lung (fourth time) and then to the brain (fifth bout, not done yet). Two tumors that were discovered about 7 to 8 months ago due to her having 3 seizures in 5 days. One of the tumors has almost gone away, but the second had shrunk to half the size it was, but it has now grown again and is slightly larger. She starts radiation treatment next week.

The law says that you must be at least 6 months seizure free before you can drive again. She has been 7 months seizure free but the doctor wants her to not drive for another six months or more due to this tumor. Needless to say, mom is not happy about that either.

And to add injury to insult, one of our cats is sick and at the vet for treatment. I am confident in her recovery, but the bill is at $680 as of right now and I expect it to go up.

Not that it's any of my business, but what does one do to deserve being belched at?

Also, today I hung the lights on the office Christmas tree. I made fake presents to put under it last week.

Lights was irritating as the tree was placed close to the glass panel so it took some squeezing and today I was in a fairly tight dress. I ended up taking off my shoes and doing it barefoot as my shoes were too loose and kept falling out.

I wouldn't recommend belching *at* Val. The more I think about this one, the more it is reminding me of the current phishing scam I keep getting in my spam filter... the one that says, "Wow, I've been spying on you and tracking your browsing history and dayum, are you dirty, send me lots of money and I won't post images of the nastier sites you visit on your social media wall and send them to all your contacts, since I have all your passwords."

bbc news (I have this little fantasy that it's more accurate and less biased than US news sites, also no paywall)
Netflix (Dark Matter and A Series of Unfortunate Events)
Gmail (mostly work, church, ballet, and girl scouts related)
Pinterest boards of holiday kid craft crap and more time-wasting projects for my kids' Hogwarts bed/bath rooms

I love that the scams are self-aware enough to basically go, "Yeah, I know this is a scam, you know this is a scam, so now I'm going to try to scam you by convincing you that I've already scammed you." (Which, statistically, if you'll fall prey to a scam, by this point, you probably already have, at least once.)
