The General: I can't believe I was dumb enough to schedule a dentist appointment for the kids on the next to last day before Christmas break! I'm really sorry kids!

Captain Yesterday: Actually, I schedule the dentist appointments...

The General: Oh! It wasn't me!!... Good luck with that.

In fairness, you gotta schedule them months in advance and they're a really good dentist office, so you take what you can.

Still, fun day for me today.

Sorry. I tuned out on who was in it after Snipes and Astin. I thought Astin would be an awesome vampire villain. Really stretch his range. I totally ignored that the other two were RPG writers, and in fact PF/SF's own JB.

I want Blade 4 that bad.

Best. Marvel. Movies. Ever.

Also shows real badass vampires, not the god awful trend of emo wimps of late.

Ganon actually has quiet moments of reflection where he actively wants things to go differently for everyone. He wants the Gerudo to succeed, and he wants to hold Hyrule because he's jealous of their success and bitter at the Gerudo's place in the world (especially after their defeat in whatever combat raged in Hyrule prior to OoT) - this can be seen, rather clearly, in his discussion of things in WW (an extremely underrated title with extremely deep lore). Even as far back as LttP, his story hints at a much more conflicted creature than simply, "YO, I BE EVIL AND ALL HATE FOREVER" (though there is little to him beyond that).

The Zelda series is iffy on whether or not Ganon is the primary antagonist. The games establish that Ganon is a manifestation (essentially, a servant) of Demise, being sent against Hylia and her chosen Hero (Zelda and Link). Hyrule Historia says Ganon is Demise, but the games that discuss it always hold the two as different beings.

If you go primarily by game canon, Ganon is just the general of the primary antagonist, who you have only fought in just one game of the entire series. If you go by Hyrule Historia, then Ganon is the primary antagonist. This may also be why Ganon is so conflicted as a character, since if he's just a servant then he's having times when he's questioning the will of his master.

But no matter what, the primary antagonist of the Zelda series is Demise. Demise is why the Master Sword exists, and why Zelda and Link keep getting reborn. Whether or not you accept Ganon as the antagonist depends on which theory about Ganon's relationship with Demise you accept.

This is why I don't bother trying to define who's the primary anything with the Zelda series. Not even the official canon agrees on the subject. That is also why I went with level of threat presented, since even if Ganon is not the primary antagonist, he is the greatest threat to Hyrule. It's Ganon who keeps showing up to conquer the place.

One of the great things about reincarnaion is, "Same story, different versions, and all are true" - Ganon is no more Demise than Wind Waker's Link is Skyward Sword's Link (point in fact, King Daphne's explicitly says that "there is no connection" between the two, to Lord Jabun). And yet, on another level, the two are the same.

Demise himself is locked inside Fi, always and forever, and yet he exists without, as a new and different person named Ganon, continually being banished by a reminder of his own defeat, like a vampire recoiling from a mirror he can't see himself within. Ganon does not know Demise and is not that character. But the fundamental essence and goals of Demise lives on within the mortal Ganon. Heck, it may even be that Ganon - as we think of him - has already been successfully sealed/destroyed forever in two different timelines (Wind Waker, and whatever one has the hand-held where a seemingly mortal Ganon went to nab the evil pitchfork of power - my hand-held 'Zelda knowledge is not all it should be*).

Of course, then there is Vaati, who seems to basically just be a jerk. I don't know what his deal is (I don't know enough about hand-held lore, again, I'm afraid).

* Whats most Intersting about WW, is that Ganon ceases to return, ever: basically, King Daphnes wishes him out of existence, and only two-thirds of the Tiforce ever leave the Great Sea: New Hyrule was founded with Courage and Wisdom, but not necessarily Power. In the other one, though the name Ganon continues, he has as much connection to the old Ganon as he does to Demise. Which is to say, not much other than vein' bad an' hatin' Hyrule.

So I just saw the preview for Proud Mary.

An action movie starring a sexy woman? (TPH cleans up incredibly nicely - some movies she doesn't even look like the same actress.)

How has Hollywood waited this long to figure that idea out?!

and not as a sidekick, no less, like Salma "Sexiest Woman to Ever Exist, and I will F&@&ing Fight You on This" Hayek, either, but full-on star!

(Seriously, the most realistic moment in Desperado is when that car crashes because the driver is too busy checking Salma out to pay attention. She was a solid 10. Even now, at what, 51, she's a 9.5. I'm pretty sure she wasn't acting in Dogma when she said she was a Muse personified and placed on Earth. She's so good looking it f$$#ing hurts. If I were a woman, I'd hate her with jealousy like I currently do Bradley Cooper. That g&#+##n bastard is ruining the beauty curve for every man alive.)

So, today is an attendance incentive day - the only kids required to be here are the ones with excessive attendance issues.

So...I have two kids in my room. Supposed to be more, but...shock and awe, the frequent absentees are...absent?!?! Since I have nothing for them to do but catch up on things, I offered to put some music on.

"Please, miss. Please no more Christmas music."
"I can live with that."

So it's 8 in the morning, and we're chillin' to some Kamelot.

*almost* the opposite here: If I get 4 closeout docs done today, then I have no more work left for the week and my manager might let me take Friday off. So heads-down for me.

On the other hand, this is what NobodysWife is wearing to work today!

You know I get why doctors charge late fees -- I can imagine a world without them, where a lot of people regularly flake out or show up 15+ minutes late due to time mismanagement and as a result a lot more people show up that much later under the assumption that things will be running late.

But I think it's only fair that if you show up on time and have to wait for the doc, you get a chunk of the fee from the flake who held him or her up.

Okay, 23 hours, 45 minutes until Mother-in-Law's plane touches down in Oakland, and today is the last full day of school.
Which means:
- I get to bake miniature gingerbread cookies all day with 3-5 year olds, to go with the FIVE-AND-A-HALF-DOZEN MINIATURE FRUITCAKES we baked yesterday, for the school open house tomorrow. Which means the floor will be very sticky. But at least the housekeeper is back today.
- After leaving work at 6:15 tonight, I get to set up the guest room for Whingey Wizzard and myself, set up our room for my Mother-in-Law, finish all the laundry, scrub down the bathroom, and hide anything that needs hiding.
Crazy Grandma actually said, "No, I don't want you to give me your room. Just put a chamber pot in the guest room for me and I'll be fine."

Because it's 1405 and we'll simply empty it out the window?
No. Just... no.

Considering how consistently doctors are late, I don't think it's just one idiot holding them up. I think that they, like air travel companies, consistently overbook on the assumption that someone will cancel and even it all out. And that's just not fair. Look, I get it, you don't want to even have ten minutes where you're not working and getting paid, but dude, that's part of the risk of opening your own business. Don't like it? Get your MD-having-ass over to a hospital.

F+~@ knows those bastards have constant work, AND the doctors seem to charge you IN ADDITION TO THE HOSPITAL that is paying the doctors somehow. And then insurance denies the claim, saying it wasn't medically necessary, as if they know more than the g$@**$n hospital itself. And I have to pay extra because those two idiot groups can't make up their mind about whether or not my potentially-life-threatening-disease deserved an overnight stay.

Sorry. I hate the medical industry. I love nurses, though. Doctors...eh...not so much. I usually prefer to see an ARNP or PA over an MD or DO any day of the week.

The titular Court is a Hogwarts-esque "school for gifted youngsters" though that's where the similarities end. It's very tech and extra-scientific focused. It's bordered but separated from a forest full of magical creatures, "ruled" by Coyote and his lieutenant, the mythic wolf Ysengrin.

My rage is reserved for the insurance industry, and the political elites in its pockets who regurgitate perverse idealisms to defend and support it. But I totally get where you're coming from.

Whether a doc holds you up because of overbooking or because an earlier patient held him/her up, a doc-to-patient fee is only fair. Especially if the doc is charging a patient-to-doc fee to late patients.

So, how about [favorite MMO]? Do you think [acceptable target class or build] is overpowered in [favorite MMO]?

3 people marked this as a favorite.

My understanding is that it's the insurance companies that require doctors to see 30 patients a day (8 hour day, 15 minutes per appointment, 30 minutes for paperwork. Sounds toally reasonable), which is why doctors always work 14-hour days and run 15-45 minutes late all the time.

I have no idea why doctor's can't just say, "No," but my impression is that they're told, "If you want to carry our insurance, you have to see at least xxx patients a day," and it's the doctors who actually, y'know, take the time to talk to you and figure out what's going on who get hosed and always run late.

EDIT: And to be clear, I am in total agreement: I despise showing up on time for an appointment and then being forced to wait 45 minutes to be seen, especially considering I take time off from work to do it. But the moment I started agreeing to see nurse practitioners instead of doctors, the problem vanished. Apparently nurses aren't held to such an exacting schedule.

It's okay. The first few episodes weren't, in fact, all that special. It's more the sum of things than individual episodes, really, for me. I loved it, but I'm not surprised that others didn't.

(The pacing is slower than other shows, for one.)
