Games like yesterday's make me sad I'm not doing a journal for Del, the wayward tiefling life oracle. It just wasn't her day:
We were exploring some ruins, but our only melee PC's player was sick, so it was Del, Captain Finn (bard), Shamiyya (wishcrafter), and V (I think she's tempest bloodline sorceress). In other words, no one who could do real damage, and only one PC with an AC over 18 (Del).
So petite little Del (4'8", 100 pounds) got to go first into every building. The phase spiders dropped on her, covering her with venom and ichor as she and the others slew them. Except V decided to summon an uncontrolled spider swarm, which promptly ALSO went after Del, so she had the joy of being covered with both Tiny AND Large spider corpses at once. On we go to the next building to fight some animate nightmares, where Del can at least use her ONE offensive spell (Spear of Purity) and manages to miss 3 out of 4 times. On to a booby-trap-ridden building where she sets off various lightning bolts, crossbow traps, and scythe traps. So her clothes are in tatters, she's a bloody mess, but she's persevering.
We find the sole survivor holed up in a room and she insists that they Dimension Door her in so she can help him. As she tries to calm and/or subdue him, Captain Finn sets off a lightning trap that hits her. She moves a 5' step forward, and V promptly sets off a second lightning trap that hits her again, because she's now in line with V.
I swear, in 5 hours of play I think she was hit by bad guys twice (a phase spider and the insane guy). But traps and friendly fire did close to 100 points of damage to her!
THAT would have been fun to write up.

Yeah, being a life oracle in such a situation ROCKS. "Oh, I just took 50 hit points? OK.... I'm fine. What? Another 25 and now I'm poisoned, too? OK... just a sec... OK, I'm better again. Oh, gods! What NOW?!?!?"

And a few final thoughts, spoilered because they're rambling, rather than AP spoilers...
What I really love about the way GothBard is running the AP is that the pirates are really "movie pirate-like", so they have absolutely no use for Del. They see the captain take in a stray beautiful tiefling, learn that she worked in one of "those" houses, and sigh and say, "Captain, every man's got needs, but you don't have to take one on board with you..."
...and then they learn that she can heal them at close to 100 hit points per round.
So they still have no use for her, but she's kind of the ship's mascot. She has no sailing ability, she does really weird things (Perform: Dance +14 after dinner every night). But she's learned to stay out of the way, so they tolerate her. As GothBard says, it's like finding a deer on your ship. And you ask, "Why the heck is a deer on the ship?" And you're ready to throw it overboard, but then one of your guys falls from the rigging and breaks his leg, and the deer runs over and heals him. And so you think, "OK. What the heck? I guess the deer can stay."
You still have no idea why there's a deer on the ship, but it's not useless, so as long as it stays out of the way, it gets to stay on the ship.
Then V came along (another charisma-based female), but her player has missed nearly 2 months' of play, so she's been sleeping off a drunk in the hold.
And two sessions ago, we rescued Samiyya, a THIRD charisma-based female with no obvious sailing skills.
And the reaction of the crew is priceless.
"REALLY, Captain? Just how many do you NEED?!?!?!"
EDIT: And yes, as of last session when Captain Finn realized that he was traveling with three women with charismas of 20, he immediately declared us "Finn's Angels".
Del was not amused. I figure no tiefling appreciates being called "angel"...

On the other hand, crippling injuries probably include a hefty compensation, which unlike shares in spoils, tended to be fixed and warranted sum of money.
Though in a fantasy settings, I could see instead the code warranting subtracting the restoration, heal, or regeneration cost being covered instead...

Oh, it's all fun and fine. We'd just lost the cook's assistant, so they threw her in the galley. Having natural armor, fire resistance, and a prehensile tail makes her a good fit there, and since I hadn't bothered with any Profession: Sailing, her first point in Profession: Cook got her a +4 so she cooks decent meals. (It doesn't hurt that her first three rolls were 18, 17, 19, so people actually think she can cook.)

I am. Thanks. I've been...up and down. A lot on the proverbial plate, as it were. Just...couldn't check in as often as I'd like, and...well...
I've been missing him, too!
I hope that he comes back soon - I've not actually had the chance to chat with him since he more or less "left" - I know that he was having an emotionally rough time (as he does), and had to step down from GMing, and, from very personal experience, I know how intimidating it can be to "come back" after things like that, especially when you really want to re-gear yourself up to play those games again, but struggle to find the energy and positivity to do so.
^this is a lot of it. Not all, but a lot.
Long story short, my wife and I had a really, really rough patch that was wrecking me emotionally. We're good now, but my disorders are pretty stressful for a spouse to deal with, so...yeah.
I have been in-person gaming with some really nice people of late. It's the same group I was doing L5R with before. (We jumped through many systems throughout the months - most recently we're on FATE doing the Dresden Files RPG) This is actually the first group I've ever been in where everyone is of the same religious beliefs as me (except one player) and a similar political bend. It's quite weird. On the other hand I'm actual friends with 4/5 of the other players, so that's nice. It helps.
It's nice to know you guys cared. Seriously. I was going to just...keep lurking for a while, because I can't summon up the creativity to post for my PbP games (despite getting decent insurance and proper medication, I'm "stable" but it really hurts my energy level - seroquel is a hell of a drug).
I feel kinda cruddy about that. I flaked. ...and you know how I feel about flakes.
