I have less than a week to pick my players for my second PbP (fourth ever, but second I'm running now) and I really haven't analyzed the submissions enough lately. This is why I'm having recruitment end Thursday - Veterans Day holiday to do all that if I get really lazy this week.
Meanwhile my first game plotzes along nicely. They're about to reach the main plot catalyst that sets up the plane hopping and time traveling. I also killed an NPC the party assumed was a GMPC - he's really just a macguffin, and his death was planned from the beginning as a motivational tool, as the party all has a past with him.
You can't help but want revenge on a guy who killed a dwarf with half a dozen adopted monster babies. (I turned the goblin/orc/etc baby problem into a back story.) Especially if he was your mentor. Yay plot hooks!
Edit - oh no, my macguffin is showing!

SEASON 1
Episode 1: Actually really awesome, and well done!
Episode 4: Very much so disagree with the "moral" involved - but it's relatively understandable
Episode 5: Needless drama~!
Episode 7: So awesome!
Episode 8: Needless drama~!
Episode 9: ... sigh. This reaction to a heat wave represents exactly zero people I know.
Episode 10: Needless drama~!
Episode 11: ... convenient that this particular kind of incident only occurred after the series stars. (Also, it makes it look like the protags have gotten extremely sloppy as teens.)

Episode 3: Compelling.
Episode 4: HILARIOUSLY AWESOME~!
Episode 5: ... wat. THAT'S NOT HOW THAT WORKS.
Episode 6: Actually pretty awesome. ERROR: PRETTY BREATHY FOR A DEAD LADY, ISN'T SHE?!

Darn it, now I'm spacing on the name of the Rodney Dangerfield movie where he goes back to college that was filmed in Madison.
Otherwise growing up in Wisconsin was EXACTLY like That 70s Show, my wife's parents even look almost exactly like Red and Kitty, and we had a friend known for falling off places or climbing on top of s&~@.

It really was just called, "Back to School".

Turtles in time was... Not as bad as it could have been. I remember a little of it, which means it rated between forgettable and somewhat positive.
Yeah, it's not nearly as terrible as most remember: similarly, the first two films aren't as wonderful as people recall. That said, the second (though empty of good, solid plot) was proooooobably the most entertaining, even if the end was hilariously bad* - the first was an unfortunately painful angst fest while the third is mostly enjoyable now as its so bad it's kind of funny (not quite "good") instead of boring. Plus the ending credits song of III was fun...! (Yeah, I don't have much; it wasn't a "good" film.)
The first one was too much drama.
The second came out feeling a lot more like the cartoon would have.
The third one was just, "Hey, look: Magic item! Time travel adventure, woo!"
"BLARG! I'M SO SCARY IMMA KILL MYSELF AND MAYBE ALL OF YOU BY DESTROYING THESE DOCKS!"
"Oh, wow, that was dangerous. Shredder died! It's a good thing we conveniently stepped into this location that wasn't dangerous - and it wasn't even hard!"

THIS DAGGUM ELECTION
(And today's the day!)
My insurance refused to cover two doctor visits on the apparent impression that I had acquired some mythical second insurance policy that would cover it - this has been resolved, thankfully.
I'm really daggum late for TKD, and might even miss not, today.

So considering I've already been hit by flaming bikes this week, I figure I can get away with this one, especially considering a certain predatory feline chose to disparage my home state in no uncertain terms.
What the heck is it about Florida that makes them so utterly unclear on the concept of voting? From clerks getting fired for "a dispute", to a poll worker pepper-spraying a voter, Florida turns elections into a contact sport.
I don't know whether to be appalled or impressed.
But I'm certainly not surprised they never have any clue how their elections turn out. They're too busy turning elections into a contact sport to do anything as mundane as, y'know, vote...

Hey! I'm from Florida and I voted just fine! Dang it! Outside of, you know, actually making the final vote (Deck on the selection), it wasn't even that hard! No one tried to stop me, and everybody was incredibly polite! :p
Sorry... can't listen... NobodysWife and I are just giggling too hard at the mental image of a bunch of Floridians beating on each other with their ballots, then trying to stuff the mangled, bedraggled ballots into the war-torn ballot box before it collapses into a heap of sadness...
Go Florida! ;-)
EDIT: It doesn't help that we're from the west coast. We picture Floridians as octogenarian New Yorkers wearing horrifying whites and pastels... just makes it even funnier...

And yeah, we don't watch the election results ever since they realized that Californians were actually skipping voting because the elections were always already decided before we even got to the polls, so they barred us from getting any news unless we go out of our way to track it down.
At least Floridians take their voting seriously.
Californians? "Eh? President's already chosen? Well, who cares about the 26 state initiatives? How can those affect ME?"
We're a lazy lot.
But yeah, we don't get any news until it's all over, so not particularly interesting to watch. "Aaaaaand... your polls are officially CLOSED! You didn't have any influence on the presidential election AGAIN, and your new president is..."

I voted this morning. Late enough that most people were at work, but early enough to be before lunch, so the lines were really short.
And then I came home and ate Nutella straight from the jar. Oddly enough these two things are unrelated, although chocolate certainly also helps with dealing with the stress caused by all the nastiness surrounding the elections. :)

And I finally finished doing all the setup on my new computer. It's as awesome as I was hoping it would be now that I'm getting used to it. It's a bit weird to be using a laptop again after using only an iPad for so long. But it can definitely do a lot more. And it'll be able to do even more once I get all the software I'm looking at, but no new word processors until NaNo is done. :P
It's especially cool because I wasn't expecting to be able to afford any computer at all for quite a long time, but I got a small inheritance from my grandpa that was just enough to get exactly what I wanted. Sad/happy all at once. Emotions are complicated.

Also (unrelated): "Tanks are a delicate and fragile instrument of destruction underneath exceedingly specific forms of armor" or "The tank's biggest weakness is the tank." or "Tanks, lol."

Yeah, I'm driving Impus Minor absolutely insane.
We have had nothing but awful, awful luck with laptops. My mother bought a Dell back in 2001 and it's still a serviceable computer (anybody want it?). But the Lenovo we got for Impus Minor was an absolute piece of junk (NEVER again. And at $1200 for a friggin' Lenovo, you'd expect better of it). We got NobodysWife a $1400 HP for her work. Still an amazingly slow computer for the price.
The *only* decent laptop we have is NobodysWife's new gaming MSI, a little ditty to the tune of $2200.
So Impus Minor wants a new computer, and I told him I would *never* buy another laptop, but I'd build him the best computer he'd ever had, and I'd do it for around $800.
So every week I'm buying a part, bringing it home, showing it to him, and telling him, "Yep, not going to be ready 'til Christmas. Too bad!"
So far it's a Gigabyte 170MX Gaming-5 motherboard with 16 GB of 3600 MHz DDR4 RAM. We'll be getting a small solid-state drive for the OS (100 GB or so), a 4 TB platter drive for storage, and then a case and a power supply.
Fortunately for us, Shiro's player believes he can get us the employee discount on a processor (so an Intel i7 at half price), and he upgrades his video card annually, so we can get a 1-year-old, $400 video card for free.
I think the SSD is going to push us over $800, but not by a ton, and that computer is going to be out-and-out SCARY.
But not 'til Christmas.

Somehow I passed my 10,000th post today without noticing. How did that happen?
In other news, I am closing up my 60th table of PFS today. Third star, here I come!
Oh... and my black belt test will be in December. I'm fifty and overweight, testing with a bunch of fit twenty-somethings. It's a humbling experience.

Hmm
remember, there are no secrets.
Focus on the basics of your fighting style, that is really all that any fighting style has or really is. Anything black belt and up is the basics done much much much faster and possibly without thought, with some extra stuff to cover a few weak points.
