Nothing like a stiff slug of bourbon to patch over a horrid workday. Since I take public transit, I didn't even have to wait until I got home.

I don't know if I should be pleased or saddened by the fact I'm not the leastest suspectified.

Clearly the objective for any actual supervillain would be to strive to become the person suspected the most. Therefore, by the good Captain's logic, it would never be me.

Er, it would never be the actual supervillain.

Mwah-ha-ha-ha-ha!

Had a dream that the library made me fight in the Roman Colosseum to pay off my overdue books.

The kicker is, I don't have any overdue books and it was all a clerical error.

That is harsh. It's not like you were taking books without a library card.

It was more than a little disappointing to get woken up from the alarm just as I was about to vanquish the lion.

So close to fighting the Cyclops... >:-(

Well... I was taking one of works cars to Livonia to help out a different branch and the thing just died... So not only are they short handed they will have to spare someone to drive me home later. I kind of feel bad for them.

Thankfully, she fast forwards thru the kissy parts.

CY will be ecstatic to know that it's my kids' last free week of summer vacation (camps and trips fill up the remainder of the month), so...

So, I've gone and undertaken the task of re-reading Order of the Stick.

I had forgotten how silly (in a good way) this series was. Looking forward to more of it.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child has arrived. Hope it's good, but the reactions so far seem... mixed.

2 people marked this as a favorite.

It's always going to be mixed though.

With such a huge, starved fan base.

I wouldn't worry about the reaction, unless it's like the reaction from the Star Wars book.

You mean The Force Awakens novelization? I hear that was really good, and I own the B&N version, but I never did get around to reading it.

Now, what would really make me sad is if Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them were to disappoint. I'm way more hyped for that than for The Cursed Child.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

It wasn't the Force Awakens exactly. I believe it set up The Force Awakens. At any rate, the book received brutal condemnation at all my family's gatherings.

I honestly want to read it to add to the rotation of sci-fi mix uppery I engage in to keep things from devolving into political discussions.

it is a very divisive work. Almost extremely divisive. As far as I'm concerned people who dislike it don't get to complain- chewie doesn't get moons dropped on him in this one.

Some of the reviews on Amazon for it crack me up.

If it's one thing I've learned, is NEVER write reactionary reviews, it's always best to wait and ponder, you'll get a more honest review every time.

Good luck at Gencon everyone! I myself get to sort and fold clothes, and do the dishes, on top of figuring out how to do Friday. The downside to winging everything, is you're making it all up as you go, which is fine for every day life, but when it's something special, you really gotta bring your A game.

Getting a moon dropped on ya by extragalactic alien invaders while you're in the process of saving your best friend's youngest son? Can you think of a better way to go? Sure, Tyrion Lannister's response to the question in Season Two (or was it One?) of Game of Thrones on HBO might be better, but we have to leave that unexplicated here, I think.

Pre-Disney Expanded Universe Forever!!

R.A. Salvatore did say it was the worst book he ever wrote, and that's after he wrote The Ghost King.

I just saw Salvatore at connecticon. He was doing autographs. I have a long history of hate for the man and am proud that I didn't say anything stupid, as his booth was diagonally across from mine and I had to stare at him all weekend.

I have to admit, I've never read a Salvatore book I really liked, stylistically. Every time I've tried to read one of the Do'Urden books, it's felt a bit too forced, or something. I just like stories to be told; I'm less a fan when they get reneged. The only exceptions to that are with Star Trek and some comic series.

In other literary news, I just finished reading Jim Butcher's latest, The Aeronaut's Windlass, in The Cinder Spires series. Steampunk fantasy, and well done, at that. There was a section in the story that was so vividly written it brought tears to my eyes. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Check it out.

I love The Halfling's Gem trilogy and Servant's of the Shard is one of my all time favorite books, same with Homeland.

I also liked The Orc King.

Hated The Ghost King more then any book i think i've ever read.
