You didn't scare me away. Midnight did. Luckily for you, a 3am vomiting of Chinese food woke me up. Never chase grease with cola.

I hope your stomach feels better soon, tgtg!

Ah yes, traveling down the lazy sphincter, good times. I wonder what kind of reviews it gets on Yelp.

Wow! Three high speed car chases past our neighborhood in the last 24 hours. We're pretty far off the beltline so car chases are super rare, so rare in fact, I'd thought the first one yesterday was a politician entourage, which are not so rare.

Today though it's only supposed to hit 88.

How many city workers does it take to rake dirt off the back of a dump truck and fill in a hole?

A. Three. Two to rake the dirt, and one to stand there holding a rake (just in case!) and complain about the weather.

No joke.

Edit: they worked so hard, they all immediately took a break afterwards so the stump grinder guy could finish his stump and a front end loader could scrape up the wood chips off the road and put it into a second dump truck.

Make sure to tell him to mark his territory before the kids do. :-)

Huh. Where I live the ratio is 3:2 of standers to rakers.

I suspect they needed the extra guy to stand around at the water main break up the street.

It's a busy day in the neighborhood. :-)

While trying to come up with the male half of a teamwork focused tengu couple the General and I have been considering for Skull and Shackles, it occurs to me, "how do birds f%&*" and then it occurs to me, is that a normal thought to have on a Wednesday.

I decided yes, yes it is.

Random thoughts during a quick work break:

Teaching is the most rewarding, most frustrating job you can ever have.
- Actually teaching students, and inspiring even those who claim to hate a subject to look at it with new eyes? Awesome!
- Dealing with corrupt petty administrators who make triple your salary for no discernible reason and make decisions that could only be made by those who have never set foot in front of a class; parents who insist that their child's failure is 100% YOUR fault, even if their child cut 1/3 of her classes and never turned in a single homework assignment; making less than half what you would make in another job and realizing you'll never be able to support a home or a family on your income, then being told you're "overpaid" because you "only work 9 months a year"? Yeah, THOSE things I don't regret.

At one point I was teaching at a public school with a private school across the street. Both schools had construction projects going at the same time. At the private school, the construction workers were ALL constantly busy; I never saw them standing still for a moment. The project came in under budget and ahead of schedule. At the public school, I rarely saw more than one of the 12 workers actually doing anything. The project went 2 years over schedule and over double its original budget.

It's like CalTrans workers (the California Department of Transportation). The rules require something like 1 manager per 3 workers, so you usually see one guy working (one of the workers) and three chatting (the manager and the other two). And you wonder why our bridge cost a billion dollars...

I taught for four years.

I wouldn't go back to it for 10x the pay. God bless those people who can put up with it.

Cyzzane and Phylotus are waiting week by week to see the ending. We could watch the sub, but they're not in a hurry to have their hearts ripped out and their souls crushed.

I used to teach. I'm proud to say my kids were top of the class in tin can chewing, rock climbing, and fence scaling. They were a stubborn bunch though.

On the subject of anime...

Me, prior to watching FMA Brotherhood, watching the original: OH GODDESS THE FILLER AND WHAT THE HELL IS HAPPENING NONE OF THIS MAAAAKES SENSE.

That colored my view of all other anime.

After my friend forced me to watch Brotherhood, it is physically difficult to pull myself away from the screen.

One of these days I should go back and watch ALL of Brotherhood... It's just hard when the random episodes I have seen are entwined with memories of my boyfriend who loved playing it when I was over.

I'm lost when it comes to anime.

Just tell me which ones Joss Whedon steals. :-)

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Don't have a problem with filler, if it's done right. However, when it's blatant, desperate stalling to extend the series and is riddled with plot holes, that's when I have a problem with it.

Plus, the original FMA's ending made no sense. NONE. At least to me. Brotherhood redeemed anime is my eyes.

Sorry, the voice actors for the subtitled versions of FMA and FMA:B sound like they're 7 years old or younger. I can't take them seriously at all. Have to go with the dub, if only to prevent me from wanting to smack Ed and Al through the screen.

I generally prefer sub, but the dub for Brotherhood is really, really good.

Quotes from the living room.

  • "Impus Major! All your bunnies have become corrupt!"
  • "Holy crap, Impus Major! All the crap you keep in your house!"
  • "What? You think I'm a hoarder? Well, you're darned right about that!"
  • Not distracting at all, no, not at all.

Woo, three day training for my NEMT job is finally complete! In the past three days, I have learned that I am still good at dealing with cranky old people, filling out paperwork, and not showing any outwards signs of stress. However, I have also learned that whoever did the street layout in the areas I have to work in was pretty bad at their job, and that GPS is virtually useless for getting to places in a timely manner if you're going the speed limit.
